The last person interviewed was interesting in that "Use the hospitals, we want to go to the emergency room, we want it to be open and staffed"...
Did I miss the nationalization of the hospitals? I was looking for it in about a decade since that is the next logical step in universal health care, but I do not believe it has yet happened.
And as a side note, paying more taxes does not make you patriotic. By that logic, Bill Gates is the most patriotic person in the country. Fail.
While I think it's probably best NOT to raise taxes during a recession, these increases are spread out and look pretty slim, to be honest. I don't know what the whining is for, really. Most people will probably feel hardly any pain here.
The guy at 1:08 sounds like a certified idiot. What "businesses" have been "driven out of the state"?? A very slight tax increase is NOT gonna make businesses just refuse to set up shop or leave. The increase would probably have to be a lot higher.
I'm pretty sure I have to pay at least 7% sales tax here in my part of Missouri. A full or .75% decrease would be nice :P However, eliminating tax-free week is probably a really stupid idea.
You may fear these tax increases now. However, if the local and state governments in CT were to extremely cut necessary parts of the budget and make things even worse for millions in the state, you'd just be asking, "Why didn't you do something to raise more money??"
"Paying taxes is patriotic". LOL. Typical Liberal.
