@kamari11694 they are both written in Unix language. Mac os is written in UnixBSD and Linux is written in just plain Unix. that might be why the user interface is simalar?
Yes, I agree, OpenSUSE is wonderful, because of the simplicity, accuracy, very good hardware support. I tested openSUSE 11.1 in 3 machines and it was great. I prefer KDE 3.5 standard for stability and compatibility.
I'm not exactly sure how to go about that since I would need more ifnormation, but if you talk to UbuntuLee, I'm sure he may be able to help. I just don't want to risk messing things up. I'm more of a user's help desk rather than a hacker's help desk. LOL
@x3n0nfr4n you may have to update your drivers. if not, you should go to the update manager and install all the latest ones. (there will most likely be a hundred or so...)
@x3n0nfr4n They say Ubuntu is good on this, openSUSE is very good too, maybe because Novell supports it by side. If you search in hardware compatibility lists, you can locate some mobos which work out of the box. See of your mobo is listed. nVidia cards have better support than ATIs for the time being, but may things change. Check out your graphics card.
if youre having some special hardware you may google for linux support of this hardware. if youre just concerned about compability or emerging problems wirth your standard hardware i suggest the "best linux" for you is the most used distribution because the userbase is big and the problems you may run into is already solved for someone else who had the same problems. as beeing a gentoo user myself i'd suggest (k)ubuntu for beginners.
hey in ur video me and linux u mentioned a problem regarding the desktop resolution. well i had a similar prblm on ubuntu where my desktop res was stuck at 800*600 i believe it was due the fact that my monitor was not getting recognized.i went to the screens and graphics option where theres was an option to select the manufracturer of the monitor and respective model no,after that i cud change my resolution, and i had a a similar problem on red hat linux as well. thanks for ur videos on linux.
@angel1933 Open Office. Visit open office org. Download Open Office for windows and try it in Windows. It works same way in Linux, Open Office for Linux. Excel is ok, Word is ok, may PPT too, but I damn need Access, and Base in Open Office does not cover all the functions (for the time being), the tide is turning I hope. :)
@angel1933 Also check IBM Lotus Symphony. It's a free professional suite alternative for Office. I download it but something happened and did not install properly in openSUSE. Maybe I did something wrong, I will try again though, google it and see pictures.
Its because majority of computer users are not very intelligent. People don't want to think anymore. So they use windows, that way all they have to do is click on pretty little pictures.
"It's not Windows and it's not Mac"
I have a Linux and tried my teacher's Mac, & I found them VERY similar, but maybe that was just me

As in everything working out of the box? That depends on your needs and hardware so I cannot really say.

I currently run Gentoo , Ubuntu and DSL on my laptops :3
My favourite feature with Linux is the built in LUA and scripting capabilities , so that one can program in features yourself 8D
and you can use BASH to controll anything in it :)

Ubuntu has a bigger community.
(Forums, support, ...)
I use openSUSE 11, because you can easier switch window manager (gnome, kde 3, kde 4, icewm, ...) like in ubuntu.
You should install Debian in your Virtual Box. It is also a nice distro.
New Debian version "Lenny" is coming out soon.
So maybe you sould try the beta version.
