i believe he played if for alittle while they were growing more and more distant and he seemed to put alittle more anger into the song. i quite like this version!
Stevie's tone was his own, and was unique. And you can tell, in his playing that his influences are somewhere along the lines of 40% Albert King and 60% Hendrix. That doesn't mean he rips them off at all, although he's those things he's also 100% himself! yes, 200%!
To me I hear alot of Albert in Stevie and you may have terrible ears but listen to the sessions of Albert and Stevie together and you'll see Albert is a smoother player, but his tone is reflective on SRV.
Those were his influences as you said, but he had many other influences as well. But still, Stevie was a man of his own. He had a style, tone, sound, approach to the guitar and fingers of gold like from another planet.
I honestly hate when I hear John Mayer playing Stevie. Mayer is a great guitarist, but his singing is much better than his playing and I think Mayer should stick to his jazzy pieces instead of the full blown Texas Style Blues Stevie Played.
I dunno, as a fan of both players, I'd have to say that John does SRV justice, and that's coming from a dedicated fan of SRV who once dismissed John Mayer as a poppy tool. Honestly, John's fantastic. There's a reason why Stevie's guitar tech is now John's.
Hey, I said Stevie was influenced by Albert King, but he was not a rip off or a copy machine!
He took his influences all together and brought it and combine it with his own thing which was something raw, mindblowing and new to the guitar world! Stevie was influenced by Albert, but when Stevie played, I can hear SRV, and SRV only! He had his own style!
Also, if you check out the videos of them playing together, you may see that they sound almost nothing similar! Totally different!
No I have not, but even if I did, that is cause I am a huge SRV fan and I like him a lot and I enjoy his music a lot! That is all! I am sure you know it (I can see by your channel that you like SRV and you have many SRV videos).
I hear Hendrix, King, and everyone else who influenced him in SRV's sound. I hear it all meshed together to form a raw beautiful sound created by Stevie.
if you cant hear albert in there there's something wrong with you. definately his own man but a lot of his licks are inspired by albert king, thus sounding very similar to albert. probably top 5 most original guitarists ever but people did come before him and something tells me he may have known that, maybe listened to a record or 2 : ) I personally dont like albert king much, I doubt many people agree with me but I just dont like him, SRV is my boy
I never said that Stevie wasn't influenced by Albert wise guy, cause he was, and I said it.
Albert was a great influence on Stevie and he liked him, but what the main theme of the conversation was is that SRV wasn't a rip off and some wannabe copy cat. He was himself all the time, and his tone, sound, style was pure inovative, unique and one of a kind!

grga888<SRV is my hero & his #1 hero was Albert.Listen to The Real Deal double album Stevie said it so when he was 13.Now if u hear SRV's slow but aggressive playing I bet ull hear Albert King.
Why the fuck do you even mention Albert King here? This is not a Albert King video!
This is a SRV video, to worship and for loving SRV, for enjoying his music, not for your stupid comments, on how you think that this is better than the other or how Albert and Stevie sounded the same or similar!
I can bring up Albert King because he influenced Stevie so much, and this is my video.
I love Stevie's style but you have horrible ears if you can hear similarities in their music, Stevie sings like no one else His voice is unique, there is no comparing that to anyone, but he got the bending from Albert and alot of tone from him too, and they sound similar. Stevie is my favorite artist and reason I picked up the guitar
They did not sound the same! I can't belive that you are saying such fake stuff! What is your problem dude? Stevie was influenced by Albert, but looking at them together or even separate, no, they don't sound nothing a like or similar!
Different tone and sound, different playing, different singing!
Stevie was himself, he was not a rip off!
He took his influences and brought up something smart, new, raw and inovative to the table!
Not really dude. you hear so much of Albert in Stevie it is ridiculous. Albert has a more smoother, rich type tone as Stevie's is still raw and fierce.
They sound awfully close to each other. Not identical sounds, but close enough to compare.
Don't reply with a douchey attitude, or all your comments pertaining this will be deleted.
No, cause SRV was himself all the time! He was never being someone else, he was always himself on the guitar!
What you hear is the influence Albert had on Stevie, and that is all, but Stevie was completely himself, his tone, sound, and versatility is complete his, not to mention soul, feel and control on the stage and over the guitar!
You've never seen the Albert King and Stevie Playing together videos. They have almost identical tones and sound, yet they sound totally unique. To me SRV and AK sound almost identical, they both play similar styles and Stevie got alot of his style from Albert, if you are telling me he didn't you're wrong. He took Hendrix, King and others to make his style.
Jimmie was his favorite guitarist but besides his brother Albert King was his biggest inspiration and influence.
if you play guitar like you speak english than you need to fuckin stop, learn you english before you openly confess you ignorance in a blog you stupid muff.
yea i mean dude no one's trying to take your opinion away from you. your entitled. im just saying that my favorite guitar player is slash, but i don't go around saying he's the best because it doesn't work that way. you cant say this person is better than that person. your opinion and what is true are two different things. and whats with all the repressed anger i didnt attack you. maybe you don't get laid enough or something. worry about getting a girlfriend before you worry about marrying SRV
That is ok! But why are you acting such an asshole towards my opinion cause I said and think that Jimi Hendrix and SRV are 2 best guitar players ever? I think that way, and many people think that way! It is my right to say what I want! Why is that such a problem that you get on so angry and you start acting like a dipshit? Get a life and start respecting other people's opinions cause otherwise, you really kind of look hilarious, stupid and embarassing!
dude honestly xler81313 is right. grga888 is a faggot.

grga888, your need to publicly insult me shows you
own insecurity. stevie didnt think of himself as a god and neither did hendrix. they were emulating the people who were their gods. so you see no one is better, they are different. I dont care how long you have "studied" guitar, if you cant put some videos up and show some people it really doesnt matter. so grow some balls and post some videos of yourself.
If you have nothing smart to say about this video or about guitar players, than shut the hell up! You know what is your problem?
You can't accept opinions you asshole, and I write Engslih good, so what is your point beside attacking me first with no reason?
I said my opinion and I will say again cause I have my right, Hendrix and SRV are the best guitar players ever! If that is a problem for your body to hear, than fuck of!
slash, page, warren haynes, duane allman, obviously you dont play guitar because any musician would understand that comparing 2 artists is like comparing apples and oranges. No one is better they are different. Any famous guitarist would agree with me. dont be a fanboy douche because u sound like a fool grga888.
Fuck you! I play guitar and study music for almost 5 years! I been listening to many artists and guitarists, and for me there is no doubt at all you douchebag so fuck off!
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix are both the main gods of music and guitar!
Nobody is better than these 2 gods!
If you came here just to judge me on my opinion that I think is how it goes you asshole, than screw you!
love Stevie, but this version is crap, obviously off his head, try Lenny at El Mocambo if you want to see him at his best, nine minutes of inspiration!!!!
Janna was a model, Lenora (Lenny) was just a girl... you guys, your ah... weird. I'm a female and I love SRV, I look just as good as Janna did in the 80s only i'm a little fat.
Tell you what: If Stevie Vaughan was still alive, then Eric Clapton would not have a job. Enjoy both of their music and style, I really think Vaughan had the soul.
While I agree that Stevie is a better player than Clapton, to say that Clapton would be without a job if Stevie were still around is just not true. Clapton is an excellent guitarist, and in terms of influence, he changed the face of the electric guitar in a more meaningful way than anyone short of Jimi Hendrix. When they jammed together, Clapton was one of the few guitarists that could keep up with SRV's raw speed and talent. There's room for more than one great guitarist in the world bud.
ok 1st of all... did hendrix play 13s ? ? did hendix used to play in his sleep ? ? did hendix work his tones like stevie... no... hendrix started the movement... and Stevie Changed it and made it his own... they are both amazing.. Jimmi as the innovator.. Stevie as the solid talent... Jimmi was unorganized and more sparatic..Stevie.. he just went out and played..he was not the smartest cat ever..listen to him talk.. his music was from the heart cause he knew no other way to play..and he was high
Are you kidding me? Jimi Hendrix would spend days in the studio usually with Roger Mayer working on his tone and effects, changing it to fit the atmosphere of a particular song. I love SRV, but he got a lot of his ideas for tone etc. from Hendrix.
Uh... Stevie Ray Vaughn recorded Texas Flood the most popular blues album of all time in 2 days... Mix and mastered... you know why... because all he had to do was one take for each song.. you know why.. because he was so badass that he didn't need to spend days and days in the studio. because he had found his sound and it didn't take long to harness it. Please do not think I am taking anything away from jimi. He's the innovator. Stevie was pure Talent. Jimi Paved the way for stevie to take over
there you are actually wrong.. every thing didn't take 2 days.. the tracking took 2 days, mixing 2 days, mastring 2 days.. thats the true story. but yeah you're right.. Stevie was all the way talent. Maybe because he lived in blues clubs early in his career.
@BluesThor He only had 72 hours of studio time... 72 hours is not 6 days... hmmm...
“In the middle of one of the tunes I broke a string and we had to stop,” Vaughan recalls. “After I changed the string we picked up right where we left off — and punched back in at the same time. I don’t know if this has ever been done before. The engineer sort of looked at us weird, but we got it on the first take.” Stevie laughs, refusing to reveal the song’s title, challenging listeners to guess for themselves
Albert King and Stevie sound exactly alike with tone. Stevie took the tone from his favorite players and messed them together, You hear the influence Hendrix had on him, but you listen to Albert play and hear Stevie, they sound identical almost. Albert was Stevie's favorite guitarist.
Fact is hes playing what he feels...good for him for sounding like hendrix if you think so, nothing wrong with learning techniques and styles from other players...if you analyze like that, you minus well call people unoriginal for stealing the hammer-on effect.
Good ear! Yeah, that intro eventually became the Riveria Paradise intro. I'm guessing Stevie Ray must have had that little intro in his head for awhile before he came up with the rest of the song.
may not be the best version of thi particualar song. but this concert had some really really great songs it was a great performance. i dont htink he was too high, his ohter songs were outta this world.

Please do not think I am taking anything away from jimi. He's the innovator. Stevie was pure Talent. Jimi Paved the way for stevie to take over

The reason he did that was because he had 72 hours of Free studio time, he basically had to rush that album for him to even have an album.

@waxaz
there you are actually wrong.. every thing didn't take 2 days.. the tracking took 2 days, mixing 2 days, mastring 2 days.. thats the true story. but yeah you're right..

Fact is hes playing what he feels...good for him for sounding like hendrix if you think so, nothing wrong with learning techniques and styles from other players...if you analyze like that, you minus well call people unoriginal for stealing the hammer-on effect.

i'm not tryna start anything.but, seems like hes not tryna play like himself but more like...."sighs" sorry for saying it but hendrix.

he opens it like riviera paradise. cool.

Good ear! Yeah, that intro eventually became the Riveria Paradise intro. I'm guessing Stevie Ray must have had that little intro in his head for awhile before he came up with the rest of the song.
