@Ignominal Any style that doesn't suck. I love the riffs this band writes, but the vocals are terrible. It sounds like he is mocking himself. I suppose you actually like or prefer this guys vocals and I suppose that makes you a "real metal fan"?

@jpaynecr Personally, I believe myself to be a "real metal fan," although it has nothing to do with my enjoyment of this vocal style. I completely understand that this particular vocal style attracts some listeners and disgusts others. In fact, I think that this vocal style is downright hilarious, which is one of the factors that draws me to it. Also, to return to your concluding question, "real metal fan" is far too broad a term to define by one's thoughts upon this vocal style.

He actually has one of the hardest vocals ever, but the vocals as well as the music is all a matter of taste.

In Holland they're living legends and have been around for years in the Dutch death metal scene.

And the band does not exist anymore sadly enough.

In Mindloss, False and Erase they were 100% death metal, to the bone (my fav song still is Reality when you die :p) but in this album they made alot more melodic sound and alot catchier motives for songs and most of them are like... i dunno how to explain this, there is violent motives and there are happy motives, so well Soul Survivor was more like happy things... I mean just check out song Freedom, and compare it to older stuff, you'll understand me.

Indeed. "Babylon's Whores" is pretty much an entire Monstrosity album crammed into 9 minutes. And any Bolt Thrower fan can definitely get down with almost any track on the two albums you've mentioned.

Gorefest can still be relevant in this day and age in a largely-dead genre, and they shouldn't be discounted. Jan-Christian will probably always be the voice in my head when I think of DM.
