I've seen my dad well-up twice in my life. One of the times was at the end of the movie when the general was surprised with all his ex-troops. I love the words, and truly think I was maybe born in the wrong generation. . . but I'm glad my dad served as a bomb aimer on Lancasters in WWII. Thanks to dad, and all vets.
Lol!I love this part of the movie.I always wait for the part when the general is shaking hands with the men. There's a man in the line who put out his hand, and then pulls it back real fast when he realizes the general isn't going to shake his hand!
Thanks so much for posting this -- I watch this movie about 17 times during Christmas season. My Dad was at Battle of the Bulge, Remagen Bridge, and other places, and he always he thought this scene was corny, but he still watched it every single time. Merry Christmas!!!
:-)
Actually watched this for the first time about a week ago. Can't believe it's taken me this long :-)

I love Dean Jagger's misty-eyed look in this scene. A very underrated actor!
