You guys know why this happened? Issac was on LSD and was fucking all the songs up so it kind of morphed into this jam session resulting in him cutting himself. It wasn't that cool actually lol I was there and I walked out afterwards.
@dinoman742 Well, at the time it was not too far out of the ordinary to see Issac Brock perform a show on LSD actually. If it wasn't a really big important show then that's just something he did sometimes. Do I know for sure that this is the case in this particular instance? Did I blood test him? No, but he did not appear to be sober based on his actions and his glazed over eyes which I could see very well because I was only about 6 feet away from him.
As sweet as the jam is, and as kind of sad the cutting is, what I LOVE about this is right before he does it, Isaac goes to talk to Eric about it, who just nods approvingly with a huge smile.
I was with a group of people talking to Eric Judy after a show in Austin, TX and someone asked him about what happened here. Eric seemed be embarrassed about it and dodged the question.
i love how when he realizes the guitar he was gonna use was completely out of tune he just goes with it for like 10 seconds and then says fuck it. lol.
This is really really fucking awesome. I mean the sound is amazing. Does nobody else think this is? I can't believe this is just a fucking jam session.
this man has all the right in the world to do what ever the schmidt he wants. Check my sons name and every album before Ugly Casanova, and Everywhere and his nasty little parlor tricks. Signed Iggy (heart)
It's an improv jam from 2002. Isaac used to get wasted on drugs/alcohol before his shows all the time. It's likely that he is here too. Which isn't to say Isaac doesn't have any problems. It's likely he burns/cuts off stage too. In any case, they make great music.

Well, the music is unspeakably good and moving. I can't help but be distracted by the cutting though. It's gut-wrenching to see someone so creative and inspiring demonstrate self-destructive behavior.
Anyone cutting on themselves -- no matter how "artistic" the act may appear -- can't be in great emotional shape.
@alphatyrone actualy the fact that most artists are never in great emotional shape, being plagued with insecurities... is the reason many artists are around. because it inspires you to be creative. thats the reasaon music is around is because of an un-stable emotional state in a creative mind.
The song is called 'Blame Yourself" it's an MM rarity, it's never been released on an album. "Perpetual Motion Machine" wasn't written till 2006 and it wasn't released till 2009.
It's sort of wild.. I mean.. How insane he can get on stage. So energetic and shit.. Which I mean, is totally cool, and makes for an even better life performance..
But sometimes I just think it's odd for Isaac, because from a lot Modest Mouse's songs I get the idea that he's more of a chilled guy, and rarely has outbursts..
Then again, I haven't seen him life myself (which is too bad, as it's one of my favorite bands) so I dunno how often he does get wild
I know they probably won't ever make a studio version of this but I sure wish they would or at least play it live again. This is like my favorite song of all time
patriot bullshit george bush the government, the other side, genocide what the fuck you cant deny that things are going up and not gunna be soooo nice... take a breath or take 20 after that you'll get no more, and you can see what you can see..

Being on stage is a stress different than any other kind of stress, you cant stop riding that wave of emotion sometimes. All that free-form stuff he does at like 7:26 and the beginning is Isaac riding that wave, and sometimes you lose yourself. I once threw my guitar across the stage and put a hole in my orange amp because of the way the song we played made me feel. Its not necessarily a bad thing. Isaac blows me away because I know (or I think I know), how he felt when he preformed this, ALIVE.
Thank you! thank you! thank you! exactly...its all the stage... like.. when me n my friends practice in our studio, we dont go grazy, just move with what were playing..and on stage.. its just a completely different feeling. and it takes you over

The federal reserve actually creates money to give to the government, but charges interest, so how do you pay back interest? print more money and so on. I think the people who've seen this think Isaac is a role model because of the way he can just play, and sing what comes to mind. Not because he cuts himself. But I find it immensly funny when he's pointing to the crowd and singing to each 'Hey man, you got a knife?'
holy shit.....this jam session is awesome, i love the bassline....but add to the converations, as much as this guy is a musical genius, theres some stuff you just cant "follow" cause hes just in the moment, and it just feels right so it happens..
if this short fat lisp inflicted humble rodent is your role model you have a problem.
Issac is a fantastic musician with tones of spirit. This performance is freakin mesmorizing. I hold issac on a pedastool but i wudnt call him anything close to role model material.
I can't stop watching this. This performance is so electric. If you're watching this for the cutting part then you are deaf. Damn, I wanna see them again.
