I know they've used DSHK's before, along with RPGs. Now, with SAM missiles, it would have been more of an intimidation factor. Like the South Armagh Sniper(s) who got ahold of several Barrett m82's.

Although the Barrett had it's own useful purpose, using SAMs would be a foolish decision. Because all the Brits would have had to have done was shoot down a plane with a SAM, then blame it on the IRA, or worse yet, the missile when fired by the IRA goes off-course.
