It's a custom built AR-15 "Type". M16 (A1/A3/A4 semi/auto, and A2 semi/burst)... M4 (Original semi/auto and A1 semi/auto)... Doesn't really matter since "M" is a designation given by the military (M16 for the 20" barrel variant and M4 for the carbine-14.5" variant).

It gets old hearing these video gamers start arguments about something they are clearly not equiped to discuss. Stick with your playstation and let the grown-ups handle the hardware.

Suppression of a 5.56 round is kinda pointless. It has a HUGE acoustic signature even with the initial report of the powder charge suppressed. Super sonic rounds are VERY loud in flight.

@FlyingGuySFO You should listen to one before making comments like that. Sonic crack is not that loud. A suppressed 5.56 has less report than a 22LR firing SS rounds. It's not loud at all and hearing safe with any modern can. 7.62 is borderline but 5.56 is really not that bad.

@FlyingGuySFO It seems louder downrange but I don't think it really is, you just aren't expecting it. It sounds like a really sharp crack of a bullwhip if you have ever heard that. You will hear it but it doesn't hurt your ears or anything. If you've ever been shot at from a distance you would know the sharp crack...it's followed by the boom which you use to figure out where they were.

I wouldn't classify it as an M16, What makes the M16 is its longer barrel, Even if you replaced the lower receiver with the M4's lower receiver it'd still be an M16, The weapon in this video has the M4 Variant short barrel, and the M4 Variant collapsible stock.

But since it fires full auto, it is probably not M4 as well, because M4s fire burst unlike M4A1, which fires full Auto. As the description says, it is a customed AR-15 type rifle, but the one that looks closest to this would be the Colt AR-15 Sporter II rifle, a civilian version of the earlier models of AR-15 with a foward assist converted to full auto.

@Brokkolesz The M16 (also referred to AR-15) has a fixed carrying handle on the upper receiver, no forward assist, triangular handguard, three-pronged flash hider, etc. Then from the M16A1 (different variation, not same as the M16), it got a forward assist and a bird-cage flash hider.

The M16A3 can be said to be identical to the M16A2 except it went back to having Auto feature.

Before the US Army got the M4A1s, their standard issued rifles were the M16A2s (used alot during the gulf war and still). Since it is hard to replace ALL of the M16A2s to M4A1s, some divisions still use the M16A2.

Think, an officer with a pistol is far less effective than a marine with a rifle, instead of a pistol.

@cherriomartinez Depends on what you're doing. When I did house-clearing in Iraq, no you don't need it. In close range, muscle memory kicks in, and you can reliably hit a target with aiming down sights. In Afghanistan, where the ranges are a bit longer, and the terrain more treacherous, precision counts.
