@eggs347 the first cuts are circular slices around the opponent's arm to inflict pain and ease pushing it away from his, the way the attacker holds the defender's arm restricts his entire body movement, not just his arm, it pins his arm against his body away from the attacker, shielding the attacker from the defender using the defender's own body, and so it's important to release the arm first using light slices to be able to move freely.

@eggs347 well... if it was a duel and the cut was not THAT bad, the attacker could react this way... after all a cut to the arm isn't allway fatal...

Very good demonstration. The application are interesting. I can see the parallel with Katori shinto ryu.
