@RushTheSilver I've always thought that Hitchcock could make a really good Villette adaptation. It wouldn't be able to reach deep into Lucy's mind like the novel, but Hitch tends to do subjective camera-work which could serve Lucy's unreliable narration really well. Any adaptation would have to be a loose one.

I had the same feeling after listening to this discussion. When I was young I had to read WH for school and thought it was an awful story. I could not relate to the feelings of the characters. But now that I am at this stage of my life I completely understand the tragedy of their love, hate and all the other emotions. The human condition in CB's JE and V is timeless.
This discussion is such a gem. Wonderful work in collecting all the information presented on screen. The Brontes were such talented writers and met such tragic lives.
I started to read Villette some time ago but it was a hard book to follow for me;nevertheless an interesting story. Thanks for posting this. ♡ ƙarolyn
I was half way in Villette&despite liking Charlotte's writing I stopped to question myself "Why am I reading this?".So torturing was the lack of action in Lucy's life!But in trying to answer that question directly understood what Charlotte wanted to say with it:"If you,who are an outside of the story reader,can not tolerate her life,how is she to live it?".And then I hasten to read the rest,because we all more or less have had really stagnant life periods.This was a magnificent touch of reality.
