  • It's in a book with 4 other solos. I bought it either at Steve Weiss or Sheet Music Plus, I can't remember which. You can't buy by itself to my knowledge

  • 3:38-3:42 is so hard at that speed. I'm playing this in a recital in march. My teacher played this in college but I am playing it in 7th grade!

  • Nicely done! I got this one about a week ago and I already have it memorized but I'm still having trouble getting a few parts up to tempo.

  • The main problem with Vancore Marimbas is the hangings themselves. They use such a thick thread that it actually dampens the staves, change the thread and it sounds beautifully ^^

  • Great :) butt is thit a rosewood or padouk marimba??

  • did anyone consider that it might be the wonderful audio encoding that youtube is graciously providing us that is killing his marimba's sound?

Also this is the best interpretation of this piece I have heard in a while so way to go OP!

  • I see what everyone else was saying, about your pros and cons. The marimba doesn't resonate, but that is because the room you are in. But as for your stepping and posture, instead of being an umpa lumpa, the correct posture, is to act as if you are about to charge at something in front of you. Lean over the marimba and have one leg in front of the other. To move, you crab-step so your body doesn't swing in all different directions, not unlike your legs. Other than that, it sounded well.

  • I don't like the sound of the marimba. It doesn't resonate. Maybe you should've played in your living room.

  • does anyone know where one might purchase this piece by itself, without buying the entire album?

  • GREAT!

  • support the composer and publisher......BUY THE SHEET MUSIC!!! what a concept..........

  • @ptperc11 I want to buy it, but I can't find it anywhere. Could you help me out?

  • @cafield09 Keiko Abe sells it on her website. =)

  • @dylstick3 hmmm....I can't seem to find it. It just says to look on steveweiss or some other sites.

  • @cafield09 Weird.. =P I'm sorry. Try'd tapspace?

  • @dylstick3 No luck. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

  • Does anyone happen to have the sheet music for this, and is hopefully willing to send it to me? Thanks so much.

  • The marimba does not resonate... but that is not your fault. it is also out of tune. and you need to step less. there is too much movement, which destracts the eyes from what you are actually doing,... but othere than those things... i thought that you played very well, best one i have seen on youtbe.

  • I never liked Vancore Marimbas. I prefer Musser's. At least their pipe resonance graduations are level and even.

  • I .love this solo but that marimba ...bleh. No resonance whatsoever. But like I said, wonderful job on the solo. I love it

  • Good night. Has anyone heard Keiko play it? Just....a lil faster....maybe 40 beats? I agree on accuracy and phrasing but SPEED IT UP!

  • this is the best recording of this I've seen on youtube so far. Great accuracy, AWESOME dynamic and tempo fluctuation, overall great performance. I agree that the sound might be a tad dry, but that's the fault of the marimba, not of you.

So yeah, awesome performance. I hope people listen to your performance for guidance rather than the countless other videos that just play LOUD the whole time.

  • omg my teacher wants me to play this for solo and ensemble this year and im in th grade!!!

holy fuzz i need to practice

  • Pretty badass man. The marimba is a little dry for my taste but it could just be the room. The notes are all there and there's a lot of nice expression, you could use a little more dynamics in my opinion. And I think you should start the decrescendo after the crazy octave leap section a little earlier.(middle of the 5the page before the recapitulation)

  • you walk to much :P....

  • I would really love to get my hands on this piece. It was recommended to me by an instructor but I can't seem to find it. =[

  • It's in one of her collections (not published alone). Check out Solo Marimba Works by Keiko Abe.

  • nice!

  • good job dude! that was awesome

  • Muy Bueno. Lol I played this for my Freshman recital (at a junior college) and all was well until I got the part where you are hitting the scales coming down really high...starts on a G and goes down the D Maj. Scale...I had to stop and for this piece it totally sucks cause a stop in a constantly moving piece...anyways very good job and I will get my revenge on it.

  • this is amazing!

it's so musical, awesome dynamics and use of rubato sections.

i just played this for high school S&E, i'm a sophomore and i WISH i could've played it at this level!
