Well they didn't exactly team up. More like Megatron got sick and tired of Sentinel Prime taking charge and practically being his bitch so he just wanted to get some payback and give him a piece of his mind. Boy did he rip Sentinel Prime a new asshole. Although in the novelization which is based on an earlier draft of the script, Optimus and Megatron do put aside their differences to fight Sentinel Prime and Megatron is actually allowed to live and return to Cybertron.
