  • her voice is like a a cool glass of lemonade on a sunny day. However u can hear the drugs, unhappiness, and dryness in when she sings. With that put together. Her sound is as fresh as those lovely gardenia she would wear in her hair... I love BIllie Holiday. Gone to soon. But her music shall live for eva.......

  • I love that everybody was brought here by a book. I actually just read a story, a fanfiction actually, where one love sings this for her lover. shoutout to venuscomb... I just fell in love with this song.

  • literally just read the line about Sal going to the town and hiding in the alley while Terry talks to her family and Sal hears the songs in the backgroudn and this of this song by Billie Holiday. Great song, Great book.

  • wow / Lady Day was such an amazing singer/ so unique / no one like her / and never will be/ a Torch singer when she sang she made us all feel her pain about a lost or broken love/ such feeling and raw emotion. i simply just adore her / thanks Billie for inspiring me to be a Blues Singer all those years ago/ ive been singing the blues for over thirty years am honored to be in the genre of such a great singer ane artist.

  • @OneWayRoad Indeed. Lady Day once finished her set, waded into the audience and beat the tar out of two marines who were being rude while she was singing. I'd like to see some of these modern divas handle themselves that well.

  • First time I heard this recording was in nov. 1973. It still gives me the chills. What a great voice, what sensitivity.

  • She can do NO wrong. Every song she touched became hers.

  • She is the queen of jazz/blues and i'ts history. this age goup can't identify with this music although I hear a little billie holiday coming out of amy winehouse. amy must have been raised listening to billie holiday and roberta flack, i can hear they re influence. But billie is queen and was the begining of a new age of recording the blues. She was a tragic figue as many were but she got a crown. Bessie Smith was the grande dame prior to billie but more on the honkeytonk side .

  • @itena Her best years were the early 1950s. She still had her voice and Norman Granz had her perform with small combos. I first heard her on those scratchy 78s. Heavenly.
