  • Amazing..Awesome..Africa ryth-funk-rock. What an inspire ..!!?..could be this place?!!!! David knows better...!!!

  • Why no Tina Weymouth?

  • @DrStrange78

    she's there

  • I LOVE this song. Talking Heads were an absoulute paradigm shift in their time. Suddenly and without warning we all found ourselves on the dancefloor, which wasn't an obvious thing in 1980. House music didn't exist yet - actually I feel that the "Cross Eyed and Painless" album together with "My Life in the Bush of Ghost" (Byrne & Eno) sort of layed the foundation for it.

  • This IS PUNK!!!

  • I wish I could see stuff like this again.I know there is all sorts of great music out there that I have never heard, but if it isn't GaGa or J-sean we'll never here it.Sad.How awesome these people are.Zappa too.He is soooooo missed.Just getting up on stage and playing because you love to do it is so rare these days. For all of you that do it cause you love it I raise my glass in a toast to you.Put some of your stuff on here so we can see it!

  • ::Still Waiting:: for the time period this song was written in...

  • @benjammin107 1980

  • Fantastic!!!

  • VIVA AFRICA.!.An otherone David genius.!!after Bowie-named DAVID BYRN.Who declars that Africa does not means cannibals but rythm.!!

  • don't mic the god damn cowbell!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a band,belew is immence

  • @watchstrap1 - I always loved how Adrian Belew turned his guitar into a pinball machine, or any other machine, for that matter :)

  • grind it out, Tina!

  • never knew the friendly fires were a karaoke band, class tune

  • Pretentious? Me NEVER......more like ARROGANT, ELITE, SUPERIOR

    take your pick.....

  • @Mikeyg161 Your nothing more than a TROLL so chill the fuck out and listen to the music!!..

  • @Mikeyg161 - aaaaaand like everybody else said, you're a troll.

BTW, I think the covered bridges in Virginia are sooooooo much kewler than the covered bridges in New Hampshire; especially around the Vernal Equinox.

    Cheers.

  • the camera work sucks. Adrian's solo and they're showing percussion? c'mon! anyway, great tune!

  • Fuckin astounding !!!

  • In the 80`s I used to listen to this track 50 times a day..was never enuf...even now all these years later I still need a fix 50 times a day..thats addiction I guess. great sounds

  • during this time chris franz and weymouth wanted belew as the new talking heads frontman. imagine.

  • gänehaut pur nach dem 1 ton

  • still one of the greatest grooves EVER!! But I didn't know they had another bassist on this tour - Tina Weymouth is there too - anyone know the story behind this?

  • Belew kicks ass. He's played with 3 musical geniuses (Zappa, Fripp, and Byrne), and he can hold his own with all 3.

  • @GoblinGirl and don't forget his work with Bowie

  • @GoblinGirl

Please don't put Fripp and Byrne in the same league as Zappa. Not only is it an insult, it flaunts your musical ignorance.

  • @Mikeyg shut up and listen to the music

  • @Mikeyg161 Would you like to be more pretentious?

  • @Mikeyg161 - LULZ! what a douchey statement. I think anybody would agree that Zappa is the superior musician, composer, instrumentalist, and arranger, but I believe goblingirl said that Fripp Zappa and Byrne were all three musical geniuses, did she not? Plus, unlike you and I, not all people love Fusion (Zappas best output, obviously) and though goblin is smart enough to like all three, How do you base what league to put somebody in? Who sold more records? Who was the better lyricist? (DB)

  • The perfect song

  • is that bernie worell on keys?

  • @colinchinsammy yep.

  • That's just David being David, no cocaine needed. Been a fan for 32 years since their mind blowing appearance on Saturday Night Live, 1978. Holy crap.

  • @ickypick39 I'm right there with you, Saw them on SNL in 78. Been a fan ever since.

  • No talk, just head.

  • Cocaine is a hell of a drug,,,the 80's were tight

  • I watch David move and I believe in other forms of life

  • @levertrevel "That was cold blooded!"

  • wow he looks like bill nye the science guy

  • I always assumed this song is about drugs

  • i just smiled

  • that just made me smile

  • lol... some of y'all need to expand your sense of harmony. Bernie isn't out of tune, he's playing 'out' on purpose... IMO it was mostly downhill after this tour was over, even tho they went on to 'commercial acclaim' and fame. Stop Making Sense is a most painful thing to watch. It's interesting to note that all of the bands that Belew played with in the 80s' developed an early midlife crisis and plain wimped out after a point.

  • dark abstract cocaine funk

  • Best video on youtube, bar none.

  • Cannot believe the bigger part of the crowd isn't even dancing. i would go totally bananas. what a killer song!

  • @YellowSubmarine89 I'm a maniac dancer so I know what you mean, but I know a lot of music-lovers who don't dance and still go to plenty of live shows. It's just as emotional for them as well, but again, I agree, move a little bit fellas and nevermind who watches. haha

  • Best bass line ever, top funk, try keeping still to this

  • It is almost like the new people they added to the band were trying to ruin the song! The best Talking Heads is 4 band members.

  • @iampower714 I couldn't disagree more. This is the best version of this song they ever did. And Adrian Belew is a well known guitar genius

  • There are many adjectives that one could certainly use to describe the Talking Heads, but the one that I find most descriptive is: ORIGINAL!

  • The person on the keyboard in the intro was quite out of tune if you want my opinion... Adrian Belew, perfect as always. I saw some Zappa videos from the same time, Belew was there... and not talking about King Crimson... This tune from Talking Heads is the best from them, particularly thiose live "jam".

  • this is the time David Byrne was really into an "Afrobeat" groove, Lots of "Fella" influence in this performance.

  • adrian belew is a guitaring genious, talking of genious talking heads :)

  • wow that's intense, what a groove!

  • I'm talkin' about the FUNK.

    David likes the FUNK.

  • yeah sure he didn't use drugs

  • David used to say 'I'm going to have a toot then get in my suit (the big white one)'. You can *smell* the drugs off them, and it might just got the better of them at a couple of points.

    Anyway.. enjoy the music!

  • he admited during the 80's he was on coke.

  • Comment removed

  • cocaine is a helluva drug...

  • Comment removed

  • funkin it

  • sick!

  • Still great but not as good as the Live In Rome show. I think the deeper they got into Europe, the deeper they got into drugs.

  • this has more cocaine than the rome show therefore i like it better...more energy!

the band is running on all cylinders and redlining

  • two bass players?

  • Wow,wow,wow!!!

  • the other keyboard player looks like Jerry Harrison

  • who these people? i know the drummer the girl bassist byrnes but whose the rest?

  • Well, the guy in red pants and yellow t-shirt is Adrian Belew ,he played with Zappa,Bowie,King Crimson...

  • oh thx

  • Dolette Mcdonald on vocals (in purple), Bernie Worrell (Parliament/Funkadelic) on keyboards, Busta Jones on bass, Steve Scales on congas.

  • thx

  • @himikey This is a sick lineup, but it looks different than the original lineup. Did David hire new musicians?

  • @Rambo29 @himikey Yes, I've noticed the new members as well..

  • good song n great band!Nuff said.

  • !!!

  • awsome bass line and give me more cow bell

  • greatest song i have heard today ... the heads are the shit (and i'm not gay)

  • What does being gay have to do with like Talking Heads?

  • nothing at all - all but the HEADS part ... i was high

  • so hot. ooftah. that black girl is wearing heels for this performance. damn. B\

  • Adrian Belew...AWESOME! Thanks!

  • Sound SUCKS!! But good to see another version!

  • I love this, thanks for sharing!

It reminds me of a cross-eyed airhead that's way too stupid to know how stupid she really is!!!

  • What a groove! Still makes me happy after all these years!

  • this song kicks ass. this live version kicks all asses known in the observable reality.

  • @DirectorSkinner totally. couldn't be said any better!

  • Perfection is Timeless..i should know i'm a Lawyer. Accountants & Lawyers know everything.

  • do you know how to shut the fuck up

  • Youre not, youre a computer programer named kristen kartarif, you went for a line drawing and fuckd up you misrable peice of shit,,you brainwash'd youself motherfucking stupid Idiot cause you never studied you holy homework,,theres two capital H's there and all the rest are lowercase In anycase you will shovel you shit and eat motherfucker cause your on refeed...RIP SUBLIME

  • As great is this is, you've got to check out the LIVE IN ROME version of this (related videos). Absolutely VOLCANIC. Belew, hell the whole band is on fire in that one.

  • P-Funk in da house!! Bernie Worrell!!!!

  • ¡Geniales TH!....¡Genial David Byrne!....y que grande es Brian Eno!!!!!!!! Esta banda tenía un toque iconoclasta y de experimentación que me alucina..uno de mis grupos favoritos

  • damn listen to that clavinet. that is something, right there.

  • Eran fantásticos y D. Byrne lo sigue siendo. Todos sus directos lo son.

  • David Byrne siempre ha sido y será genial.

  • If only I had a time machine!

  • Absolutely amazing

  • david byrne is an amazing rythm guitarist, understated but incredible.belew is just a maniac, absolute genius

  • This is mind-blowing. I still can't figure how David Byrne and his 3-piece and then 4-piece "art" band became such an incredible force. Nobody ever claimed that Byrne himself is any kind of a virtuoso player, but he's a conceptual genius. And, for a kind of shy, geeky guy, he must be very brave soul to get up on stage with other players of astonishing talent. (Not to mention being a skinny white guy cranking out monster funk with real cred).

  • Let's not forget the great Bernie Worrell (keyboards) of Parliament Funkadelic fame. Great artists will always attract other great musicians. Have you ever seen Peter Gabriel without the equally great tony levin (bass)? I can't imagine peter's music without Levin's input.

  • sempre immensemente grandi

  • It's easy enough to be blown away by the Talking Heads, but then Adrian goddamn Belew shows up, and it's hard to believe that what you're seeing is real.

  • true that sir...

  • I'm so glad I've found the various bits of footage of the Remain in Light touring band in action - blasts the 83 version into oblivion, and that takes some doing.

  • Simply amazing. Someone needs to write a book about just this period of the band's life. This song is also all Busta, All The Time.

  • Absolutely amazing -- I love this song!! Thanks for posting this...what a collection of talent on one stage!!

  • talking heads raw ,and without the theatrics and cinematic restraints of stop making sense

  • those weren't restraints. stop making sense was genius.

  • bring it...bring the funk...

  • Adrian Belew rocks

  • The sound is actually really great - I can hear Tina so well!! Thanks for putting this up!

  • David Bowie, eat your heart out

  • Heavenly

  • Fela kuti style!

  • ps. I think I'm in love with Dolette McDonald - what a voice

  • I prefer the live at Rome version of this - the jam at the start is a bit tighter. however much better overall sound quality here. thanks for posting!

  • wow. man, I grew up in the wrong generation

  • Yea...makes ya relize how bad todays music is when you see really talented musicians. TH rules!!

  • brilliant!

  • This is nasty. I can't believe I haven't seen this.

  • This came out 2 years before I was born but it doesn't mean I can't masturbate to its greatness!

  • 7 years for me, but i agree!

  • best heads song. nice quality video and audio. sweet

  • steve scales adrian belew are playing too,saw them in bologna the same year just great, fantastic

  • looooooooooooooooooove the percussion

  • Bernie Worrell (from Parliament-Funkadelic) on keys!!!

  • a genuine classic

  • This song is good. Dollete Mc Donald sings Background Vocals very good and I find her attraktive.

    Johnny The Woman Hero

  • Was there ever a better band? original quatrtet or this lineup, It dont matter

  • fan-fucking-TASTIC. thanks for this one!!!!!!!!!

  • Cool!
