  • Smoking by the O2 tanks...that's awesome man...dangerous much? haha

  • another favorite ,, thanks

  • Now that's a real man

  • For more (which isn't more) about Manthoulis have a look at the imdb

    imdb.com/name/nm0544114/

  • This is a part of the documentary "En remontant le Mississippi". It is a 1973 French production by the Greek director Roviros (Robert) Manthoulis.

It's extremely rare but i have it. If you want it let me know.

Roviros Manthoulis was self-exailed in France during the years of the Greek Dictatorship. He was an active communist with vigorous activity during Greek Resistance WWII and the subsequent civil war. His works wasn't officially supported by the Greek state due to his political views.

  • Yo im doing project. :)

cud sum1 send me some lyrics plz

  • The guitar playing is outstanding.

  • what a bloke. what a bluesman. criminally under rated.

  • Hes never been underrated in my world.Been listening to him for 20 years. The way he combines peetie Wheatstraw and blind lemon jefferson tickels me to death. He had is own style

  • This guy is really good.

  • Amazing performance. This is from the documentary "Out of the Blacks and Into the Blues vol. I: Along the Old Man River." Williams also performs "Scrap Iron Blues" in the film which lupine22 has also posted. kudos.

No DVD [yet?] of this doc but plenty of new & used VHS copies out there. Other performers who are shown in this 52 min. film are Bukka White, Furry Lewis, Roosevelt Sykes, Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry.

  • cool vid

  • He had a great style, real blues

  • Dude, what movie is this from?

  • This clip and Scrap Iron Blues are from a German documentary called Out of the Blues and Into the Blacks. It was put out on 2 VHS tapes by Yazoo in 1995. Out of print. Never made it to DVD. Glad to see this up here. The segment with Robert Pete is some of the most magical video I've seen. I don't think there's much more or any more of him in the film. Its all good though...

  • O_o You're right! lol Doesnt even look like a girl.. XD X

  • Lawdy Mercy........Mercy Lawd!!!

  • TED LIVES

  • Cooljack, there are plenty. They just aint famous or got filmed. This video is wonderful. The vocals and expressiveness is wonderful. The blues is raw as if it was created on the spot. Watching him makes my heart sore for the ones I've known and passed away. I'm not real familiar with this guy but what I see is wonderful, raw and real!!! Makes me homesick and happy all at the same time.

  • in my opinion one of the few post war blues musician who was any good.

  • Does this footage come from a movie? If so, is still available?

  • I had never heard of Robert Pete Williams until I saw this clip, and also Scrap Iron Blues. I love the rawness of the music. Great.

  • Robert Pete Williams, one of my very favourite bluesman of all time! So raw, so real. He had a very eerie sound, it haunts me.

  • yea speaking of eerie sound I have the acoustic guitar that hes playing. Its weird it randomly pluck itself and one late night around 2:30 I heard footsteps and this weird singing and it sounded just like this. Its a cool guitar and I've learned to cope with the eerie-ness of it, but he seemed like a cool guy.

  • really?

  • yea, but now I keep it in the attic.

  • great vid of a great bluesman.bluespower steered me to this

  • Cheers John at BP ,enjoyed this one

  • Bluespower sent this my way...Very fine.

  • Wonderful video. Thanks Dave for sharing!

  • Actually the style predates all that...

The repetitive tonal quality of his music is reminiscent of senegalese folk music from west africa...

  • There was a series of 12 albums called The Legacy Of The Blues, compiled by Samuel Charters, with one dedicated to Robert Pete Williams. I had it when I was a kid. There was a song called "Woman You Ain't No Good" that was incredible. From Lousiana, the style is pure Delta Blues, like the heavier Robert Johnson, Son House or Charley Patton stuff. Breath-taking.

  • Still available, as "The Sonet Blues Story", as is "Free Again", another excellent album.

  • @kidcalabria " Woman You Aint No Good" one of my faves too, just uploaded it

  • Doesn't match with East Coast style, Texas style nor Mississippi style. He has his own, unique style.

  • this is a guy i never heard of. wow! great movie and really cool music. what fantastic guitar.

    dave

  • Hi Dave, Yes RPW was incredible. Check out his other video clip - Scrap Iron Blues - here on YouTube.

  • Thanks

  • I just LOVE Robert Pete Williams music! Why is this stuff not available on DVD?!

  • Any idea what tuning RPW used?

  • Probably whatever kind he felt like at a particular time. That's kind of how these old cats rolled.

  • Has he got a great deal of life in him or what.. thanks so much for the video...
