the first time i saw this episode i didnt realize it was his kitchen. i just thought it was a sweeny todd spoof. the second time i was like 'oh my gosh!' then started laughing... lol
I was getting ready for my Sweeney todd party and I was dressed as him when this came on food network. And Im a chick and their Sweeney was, ...................more of an oddball than a madman XD
Good Eats is the best. I learn chemistry, biology, and history, not to mention good cooking and consumer know-how, all while being entertained at a level comparable to the better picks among shows aimed exclusively at entertainment.
Everything about this episode cracks me up. I had a smile on my face for a solid half hour. The way Sweeney says "Mrs Lovett" is just hilarious and I don't exactly know why.
i love all the adulterated food references... Victorian era food was f^&*ed up no matter how good it looked. X3 Did you know that it wasnt rare to find bed bugs, lice, human hair, rat... stuff.. and dandruff in a scoop of ice cream back then? Fun, fun... XD
Being a Sondheim fanatic and- even moreso- a Good Eats fanatic, this episode made me squee. Especially when they referenced "Worst Pies In London" and "The Judge's Return." *squee*
After careful analysis of Alton's great-grandfather's accent with a team of linguists, we have concluded that he hails from Newcastle-on-Zeastrailialandlondonshire.
Damn you, modern times! All these teenagers going "Oh noes he totaly ripped off tim burton!" who have no idea what Sweeney Todd is - it just boggles the mind. you know, I heard there's a book based on his Alice in Wonderland. That oughta be awesome.
"The worst pie in Lodon, I know..." I was so hoping the first time I watched this, that Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney were just going to burst out singing the songs from the musical!!! I loved this episode! ^_^
I love this show so much.. and just when I thought Alton Brown couldn't be more AWESOME, I saw this episode! With references to one of my favorite movies Edward Scissorhands(hilarious) and amazingly amazing musical [and movie], Sweeney Todd.
They were 100% correct... Alton Brown DOES get his geek on!
Everything about this episode...just great! First, it's Sweeny Todd! What more can I say? Second, his daughter appears again! The very first episode she was in was when she played the Roman baby in "Head Games".
The little blonde 'milk girl.' The first time she was on the show was years ago as a toddler in the honey episode, but now that she's older she's showing up fairly often. She had a main role as his neice 'MJ' in the undercover veggies episode from season 13 (Feels totally nerdy for knowing all that).
@2TailedKitsune88 That's what I said in my first post. In the one you were responding to I was answering another person's question of who I was talking about when I mentioned his daughter being in the episode.
@lupinswitch99 Yes of course I know. It's what I said in my first post here, yet for some reason people keep feeling the need to point it out to me again.
@Jeneparlepasfrancais I don't know if anyone else has already said this, but that's his daughter. She also had a pretty big role in "Once and Future Fish"; she played his grand-daughter.
Not only did he use Sweeny Todd as his model for this episode, I think he is referencing Edward Scissorhands in the veggie chopping scene, because of the music and the way he chops all crazy-like and has such a neat result...it's like how Edward went crazy cutting hair and then the results were neat. I love this show!
You see, THIS is why I love Good Eats above all the other cooking shows on Food Network. Pop culture + science + strange camera angles + charismatic host - overglorifying the food = all around good show.
Just when I thought Good Eats couldn't do anything else to become my favorite cooking show ever, they go and pull this! Best episode EVER! ...Go Sweeney Todd, best move ever!!! (and all around best musical stage play story thing, but I'l rambling now)
This shit is too hilarious!! Love watching Alton Brown but this is freaking great how he's using my favorite movie for an episode! Watching this episode on t.v right now!!! Chuck is a great Sweeney Todd!!
Alton Brown is my hero! I already loved good eats, and then he goes and mixes it with a Tim Burton movie (not to mention one of my favorite Tim Burton movies). This has got to be one of my favorite episodes!
LOL!!! That just made my day! Good Eats and Sweeney Todd, can it get any better? I like how he went all Edward Scissorhands on the veggies. =~D Thats the best!!!
i know!!!! i screamed when i first saw this. combining my two loves. <3 and also if someone said, "things like bein' careful coriander, that's what makes the gravy grander!" from God, That's Good!
