  • Chevron gas turbine powered tankers used a Frame 3 General Electric 2 shaft gas turbine driving a reduction gear then generator to power a large 100 rpm main motor which turned the propeller shaft at a constant speed. The propeller was a variable pitch Bird-Johnson 4 blade 16 footer. You increase the pitch to move forward or astern.

I was thinking to use a turbine like yours to run a surplus variable displacement hydraulic pump turn a hydraulic motor to run a standard Mercruiser outdrive.

  • Wind my crank like that and I'll scream too! What are you going to do with it?

  • I had some plans to use it as a boat powerplant if I could just figure out a proper way to arrange the output of the engines 3600Rpm output shaft to propulsion since the turbine doesnt have a power turbine but instead its using the energy of the main shaft via reduction gear, propably a somekind of an adjustable intake water jet unit needs to be constructed.
