Detention facilities and courthouses are the only places where I believe citizens should NOT be allowed to have firearms. I say this only because those places have dangerous and desperate criminals in them and someone on the outside bringing in a gun could use that gun to free one of those criminals. I think everyone should own a gun, know how to use it, and carry it at all times but Jails and courthouses are controlled access and usually well guarded and safe for visitors.

@BushMass because the gun is safer on the person carrying it than it is out in the car. Its not about needing it in the court or not.  Its about the person carrying being able to carry as he pleases. maybe you dont have a bad neighborhood or dont think you will ever get mugged or attacked, but some people live a little different and that is just a part of life. Some people realize they are better off having a gun and never needing it, than not having a gun and needing it.

Also I think you can open carry a JAVELIN just in case you find yourself in a stand off with an ABRAMS tank.
