Because while lines referencing a god are in the declaration of independence, passages blatantly saying that church and state are to be separated are found in our constitution.

@kwil46 I'm taking about the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause found in the First Amendment. Together the Establishment Clause and Free Exercise Clause state that, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
Those who wrote line into our Constitution have said that it essentially creates a wall of separation between church and State. The Supreme Court has interpreted it to mean likewise a handful of times.

When it comes to religion and government, they are supposed to be seperate. If you don't like it get out of America, because it's a free country. Especially in the case of same-sex marriage, marriage is not solely christian, other religions have it too. We are looking at people here, I'm not a satanist or an atheist, but I know that people should be with who they want. You can damn them to hell all you want, but that gives you no right to take their rights away from them in this country.

Human beings are human beings, a religion should not govern our democracy where other religions exist...I am not hateful or spiteful towards religions other than my own...nor I selfish to MAKE them do anything I want to do because my religion says so...
If Christianity was the minority in religions, would you want to follow someone elses? Homosexuality exists in every religion, even in animals...it's not a religion themselves, so do not say that another will prevail over yours! Gay people exist

Also, separation of church and state is nowhere to be found in the constitution or bill of rights but I'm sure you already knew that. Ministers should influence government for this nation to be great and not like other nations that suppress Christianity. Look, I don't hate gay people. I have a friend who is gay, but I can't tell him honestly that he is right with God and that same sex marriage is alright either. Love them enough to tell them the truth.

@biancademonet I was referring to the wording "separation of church and state" - nowhere to be found in Constitution/Bill of Rights. Look at the fallout, we've managed to get prayer and bible study out of public schools. One cannot even mention Biblical opinions regarding homosexuality, as it can be considered a "hate crime" in some states. Read the Mayflower Compact, the very first pioneers were Christian and this nation was founded as an oasis from anti-Christian tyranny.

If you allow one faith in the PS, ALL are ALLOWED in as per the equality of religion guaranteed by the 1st amdt where the govt is expressly FORBIDDEN to show favortism or to legislate in favor of a particular faith's worldview. This applies not only to fundie Xtians trying to ban gay marriage and foist YEC Hovindism in the schools, it applies to fundie Muslims trying to impose sharia law

The fact that such abuses occurred when the Church is backed by the state are the VERY REASON the two should NEVER be interwoven . As for the Puritans, they gave us Salem's Witch trials & persecuted non-Calvinists.....Gee why were Rhode Island & Connecticut founded? Puritan tyranny. My home state, PA was founded on the idea of religious freedom for ALL!!
