i was five year old boy in trichy walking in the city..heard this song everywhere in radio...still echos in ears....raja created a musical magic for a generation ....there every modern musicians exactly missed the soulful compositions.
Yes, this movie realesed when i was a child. I happend to hear the songs whenever I travel to my Native Srivilliputtur. Sometimes My eyes become wet after this song. Greatest song. Hakkim Sait Divan
What can I say? I always loved Ilaiyaraja for the right use of violin in his interludes. I had missed Guitar during my younger days, because of my lack of taste. Now after aging and picking up the interest in Guitar, I can appreciate all the Guitar compositions of Raja. Wow, the way, he has used Guitar in the first interlude mesmerizes me. Ilaiyaraja can pickup any musical instrument with ease and get the best out of it. You pick any instrument, Raja would have used it. He is God of music.
No one can compare with Ilayaraja, It is my favorite song since the film I saw in the early 80's.one can realize the sweetness of melody it is superb.
@zeeboombha the starting words sounds like nothing like ilyaraja. I am not south indian but trying to find good south indian songs without rajnikant (whome i cannot stand one bit) and whenever i hear this starting message i know the music would be amazing!
i was 2 years old plus.........i can still remember my parents took me to cinema in POKOK MACHANG (kedah), Malaysia.......wow memories were beautiful then...........everyone that you grew up with........all the people you love......somehow everything fades away with time BUT beautiful & melodious songs are the one there to remind us.........SO ALWAYS LOVE EVERYONE & CHERISH EVERYONE,,,,THAT LOVES YOU.....CAUSE THATS THE ONLY MEMORY WE CAN GIVE THEM.........WHEN WE ARE GONE .....TQ for the music
Absolutely fantastic song of SP bala and beautiful female voice , i cant understand but can feel.. sweetness...any body can upload meaning of this song...i am from Pakistan

Doesn't this remind of 'Kora Kaagaz Tha' composed by SD Burman...I am sure IR got inspired by SD Burman. Of course, the arrangement, setting is totally different. But still reminds us of the legendary composer's song.
Such a brilliant from Illayaraja's composition. Simply superb. I was 5 years old when this movie came out,so whenever I listen to late 70's or early 80's songs, it reminds me the wonderful childhood days. Wish I can turn back the clock. Evergreen. Hats off to Illayaraja.
Damn nice man.......really admire SPB's singing during 80's period......most of his songs were nice.......this song is one of his best songs.....Thanks for posting this video
Raja is Raja. That is Illayaraja. These songs work magic with us even now after so many years. The best song is one that soothes your mind and puts you to sleep. That is the true test of a good song. Illaya's songs always do that magic and that is why he is the only KING.
Senthilan, I appriciate your comments, I love elayraja and all old composers and singers, its a tragedy we ar missing such great music these days. You seems like very musically analytical. Merry Xmas and a Happy new year 2008

Not necessary to compare AR to Ilayaraja. Both of them are composing music in 2 different generations.

People slamming my post as spam should see the video of how Maestro got inspired by SD Burman's Music to compose 'Inji Iduppazhagi' song.
SPB asks the difference between imitation and inspiration and Maestro gives a beautiful exposition.

"another song that i like but not so impressed by the scenes"
To answer your comment - That demonstrates the genius of Ilayaraja even more...
- Picturisation of songs happened within limited budgets and even limited imaginations
- Ilayaraja did not have any support in the film industry (as many of today's talent have through blood relations) to prop him up.
- Ilayaraja had to play real instruments with real musicians rather than using gimmicry like synthesizers.
