  • This song is the French national anthem.

  • @Jefgg lol...wait really?

  • @kadmon15 I was joking. But it could be.

  • Comment removed

  • Thumbs up for getting his KISS records out.

  • @cosmoknight74 Cheap Trick opened for KISS before this song became a hit. I wonder how the two bands got along.

  • @Jefgg I've been told they are good friends. I use to work with a lady that her husband was real good friends with the drummer. We would always ask him to hook us up with meeting KISS, but never happened. So close yet so far away.

  • @Jefgg It should be the other way around -- Kiss opening for Cheap Trick.

  • thumb up for Detroit Rock City !!!!!

  • they looked like they had an IMMENSE amount of fun performing this,

which is good, because it's a really fun song just in the listening. <3

  • like if u heard this at Detroit Rock City

  • Jughead smoked him some crack, got a bass guitar and hopped a plane to Japan

  • this song is their best ever...i am addicted to this song...this band is the perfection of rock music:X

  • this is the old Nirvana\m/and the freakin' original

  • The first cassette I ever bought was live at Budokan.

Oh man did I wear out that cassette.

  • I have a Rick Nielson pick from the Paramount Theater in Seattle. I was a stage hand and security in the pit for this concert tour

  • If you grew in the '70's,and didn't wear out at least 2 copies of this album, you're done.

  • aw cheap trick the most awkwardly dressed band ever and i wouldnt like it any other way!!!

  • heard this on the game skate a while back i always kinda liked it

  • I so love these guys ever since I saw them at Naperville College in Illinois in 1978. Even though this is not long after it came out they do a great job of keeping the song sounding like you remember it. Not some half assed version with vocal lines all over the place and guitars playing whatever. \m/\m/ Thumbs up!!

  • like if you heard this song on Detroit Rock City

  • es tan bacan esta cancion *-*

  • had no idea this was on guitar hero.... ok... cool...

  • growing up listening to what my dad listened to brought me here....

  • @juggalojohnnieboi Same here :)

  • Mad's Up the Academy brought me here ! Say it AGAIIIN !

  • is neilson even playing guitar or is he just fucking walking around acting like a friggin idiot ??

  • Yes, I heard this song probably before the inventors of guitar hero were even born. I saw Cheap Trick at Astroworld (amusement park in Houston now closed) when I was in junior high in 83' or 84'. It was a great show and when my best friend arrived home his parents thought he was smoking pot (he wasn't) because his clothes reeked of it! I also saw Night Ranger there. This makes me feel so old (Ha!) but those were great times and as someone who grew up in the 80's, the music today does suck!

  • @ThePorterJr We aren't old ... we're vintage.

  • @Hellfireblogs Yeah, your damn right! Check out Cinderella Night Songs (first video) For some reason my comment about MTV shot to the top with 45 thumbs ups. I guess some of these kids still know what good music is and what they missed. We sure do! Take care.

  • i love this song they just dont make music like they used to

  • Why do I have to listen to a Romney advert before watching this video?

  • @JoshThomasFilms It was 1998. But Yes that was the first time I heard it too.

  • This song should be translated to French so France could adopt it as their national anthem.

  • Over the edge brought me here. Great Movie!!!!

  • Daddy Daycare brought me here. thx DDC

  • the double axe is missing

  • saw them in PA. in "77.....great

  • First time I heard Cheap Trick was at the Los Angeles Forum in August 1977. Some band called "Cheap Truck" (I was in the loge, to far to read the drums correctly and we didn't have big screens in those days) was opening for Kiss. I was like "Who's the idiot with the hat? Where's Gene Simmons?" (I was 12 and didn't know about opening acts. I was afraid Kiss cancelled). Little did I know at the time I was seeing the beginning of a great career.

  • Im related to Robin! Yep he's my uncle!

  • AWSOME

  • Thank God for 92.9 Dave fm in Atlanta for introducing me to amazing music like Cheap Trick :)

  • fukkin fantastic!!!! What a great band!!!

  • Enter: goo.gl\8ONjl and win new iPad 2.

  • now this is music!

  • they played this song at prom last year

  • this song is in that movie "Over the Edge"

  • 35 people didn't get a Rick Nielsen pick.

  • Rockford Rocks!

  • Love these young men! The guitar player is very polite I have full autographed

photo from about 5 yr. ago. I'm still playing my guitar... You go guys.

  • LOVE this band !!

  • Surrender, but don't give yourself ......... AWAY ........... fucking transcendence man

  • This is my favorite song ever!!! :)

  • I use the same guitar strap as Rick Nielsen!!!

  • like if u listened to this before it was on gutar hero

  • @floridaboysurf101 lol i had no idea it was even on guitar hero...

  • @floridaboysurf101 long before hero

  • Comment removed

  • @floridaboysurf101 Hell I listened to this in 1978 on my vinyl record :D

  • @floridaboysurf101 its on guitar hero?? hmm.. i gotta buy me one of those

    ;)

  • this song played during my middle school when i walked by some couple getting it on, my poor little eyes

  • What NateJames said

  • ahahahah gotta love kids.

  • Great voice, great name for a band, great band....

  • this brings me back to 3rd grade x)

  • These guys never get old, I saw them this summer and they have as much energy as years ago!

  • @dbarber1013 so did i u from omaha

  • Fuck guitar hero,I'm here because of "Detroit Rock City"!

  • This song kicks as much ass as it did in the 80's when I was born and grew up on this. Guitar hero? I was blaring this shit before most people who play GH were even born!

  • Where did you see Cheap Trick ?

  • little did they kno it would become a hit

  • is he lip syncing? sounds and looks like it

  • @chinchillawrangler

they took live footage and combined it with the studio album

Why do you think there's such good quality?

  • Guitar Hero? Oh! I've heard of it. It's Rick Nielsen right?

  • Great tune!!!

  • Was and still is one of my all time favvorite songs!!

  • @zombieskater131 lol no need to worry most of these 80s and 70s bands are still alive. theyre just in their 50s/60s

  • This song has always been amazing, but now the thought of dear, sweet CoCo reflecting on "the past 7 months on the tonight show" forever fills my mind when I hear this song. <3

  • Budokan was the turning point for Cheap Trick. The classic live album was their big break here in the USA. This song, as with many others, sounds great live!

  • Cheap was. and is, That Good.

  • rolling numbers rocking n rolling got my kiss records out.

  • Oh! the 70's mom why didn't you have me at 16 I could've at least had the 80's.

  • I love when people say that the band sucks and they have no talent at all.

  • Comment removed

  • either this was lip singing, or they are really fucking good.

    my moneys on the second.

  • Just to be an asshole, here's the un-overdubbed version of the same performance.

    /watch?v=-Zhul9E6arw

  • i love the whole band except that their lead guitarist tries to be like a really shitty version of angus young, with the schoolboy uniform and the attempted crazy looks on his face. that one guy is a n00b

  • @IBMaxxx3

Sorry to shit on your cereal dude, but this is overdubbed. Check out 1:26, where Rick Nielsen magically plays a fill without his picking hand and his fret hand in the wrong position for the sound we're hearing. Or perhaps pop out your headphones and listen to how Robin Zander magically duplicates his voice for the entire song.

It doesn't mean they can't play live, it means that they wanted a really tight audio track for the video!

  • THE WHO style. Badass song...weezer probably were influenced by them

  • hahaha! this is overdubbed!!!! IMBaxxx3 you are wrong>_< (they could have made more than the albumversion of the song)

  • hahaha! this is overdubbed!!!! IMBaxxx3 you are wrong>_<

  • there was a movie about in the mid 80's that this song was in. it was about a bunch of kids i think in like a private school or something. if anyone knows what it is i would appreciate them letting me know.

  • @RoyceDeshouten

    detroit rock city man

  • @RoyceDeshouten the movie was" Over the Edge" It came out in 1979..

  • @RoyceDeshouten over the edge

  • It is dubbed over. You can hear the guitar being strummed when his hand isn't anywhere near the strings, not to mention the background vocals when no one is on a mike. Open your eyes.

  • what is this about??

  • @IBMaxxx3 Sorry, but the audio is from a studio and does not synch with the video.

  • this song is amazing, and i do wish we had rock stars like this now =(. i feel like i missed out on all the good rock bands.

  • its weird hear "this next one is the first song of a new album that just came out this week" hahaha

  • i dont know if any of you have heard the album version....if you have you would know this isnt dubbed over

  • Love cheap trick, check out my video for Auf Wiedersehen youtube.com/watch?v=gmm3V1IWdJY&feature=related

  • Detroit rock city!!!

  • Back when musicians could actually perform live. Great song of course.

  • @NeuroticVows Only because they had to, you couldn't make it if you couldn't sing. There are still performers who do well live, you're just more cynical of this generation because some artists have taken advantage of the opportunity to tweak their sound where they would otherwise be considered without talent.

  • @RyderRocks73 It's not just that, I have gone to concerts where a lot of recent bands just suck live. Dragonforce, Hawthorne Heights, and all the lipsinkers don't help either. I just think modern music relies too much on post production

  • @NeuroticVows they still can. you just actually have to care about music enough to look for them because they aren't mainstream. But there are quite a few.

  • @IBMaxxx3 Fa' Narley dude ,you hit it right on top of the nail that batman put in the jokers ass, this is the same reason Harry Houdini hated phy'kicks, they act like magic and crystal balls are real and steal the peoples money for lies,tRue aRtistry is`dead or very seldom seen'my advice to you is find a long hard wave and surf it well my cybernetic friend -surf it long and well!!!!P.S. -(if there are no waves a long-board on land will do)

  • What's wrong with liking this because of Guitar Hero? It just helped people find new music.

  • im pretty sure it is dubbed over. this is definately a live take but it might not be from this performance. its actually very common in older videos

  • Comment removed

  • Mmmm, I love their clothes

  • whats guitar hero? i came here because i love cheap trick

  • @NateJames1 just look it up on youtube

  • @NateJames1 I'm glad this song was on Guitar Hero. Gave these fuckin' kids a chance to hear some real music. -Unlike the fucking Jesse J ad that's playing now, WTF?!-

  • @NateJames1 REALLY? LOL. Guitar Hero is only one of the two sickest guitar games for most videogame platforms. theres over 2,000 songs across the games.

  • Comment removed

  • people only like this song because of guitar hero

  • @shwartzflugal yes man you rigth... im from latin America so i never heared this song before

  • @shwartzflugal never played it on there, i just know the song from being alive =p and it's a good song. so i searched it.

  • @shwartzflugal

    no little girl,

some of us like this song and Cheap Trick bc we have good taste in music and aren't part of the teeny bopper generation whose musical heroes amount to Justin Beiber and Katy Perry. We were listening to this stuff when you were nothing but a slithering zygote.

  • @IBMaxxx3 Well, this track has been mixed though. Sure it's "live", but a producer took the tracks off the board and created a recorded version that is exactly like something that would be done in a studio. Then this recorded track is dubbed over live footage.

  • @extropian Well they sounded like this when I saw them live back in the 80s and 90s. Like some of the truly great bands/performers (Bowie, Queen or AC/DC to name a few) these guys have the goods .

  • One of the greatest live bands I ever saw. Dubbing and mixing were never something these guys needed to sound good. Their stage shows and sound were often equal or better in quality to their studio albums.

  • thumbs up if u played this on guitar hero 2!!!

  • @XxNYYMusefanXx 100%

  • @XxNYYMusefanXx More like, thumbs up if you only learned of an amazing and classic band from some gay ass band.

  • @Arcturus420 game*

  • @Arcturus420 well im just writing it because i want to. and i heard of them from my dad when i was yonger so

  • No one ever made a video Auf Wiedersehen from Cheap Trick, --Warning some material may be disturbing to some viewers, youtube.com/watch?v=gmm3V1IWdJY

  • i can see where punk songs about being angry teenagers in the 90's came from

  • 35 people didn't want to surrender!

  • im 12 and i love this song

  • Perhaps the sickest song of all time!

  • Neil Patrick Harris

  • its so weird and just awesome that rick neilson lives down the street from me

  • Are you kidding!? Cheap Trick was just as popular and awesome as the "competing" bands... Styx, AC/DC, Foreigner... in fact, their LIVE stuff is as good as their recorded stuff. Robin Zander was awesome; better than David Lee Roth (Van Halen) ever was..

  • very under-rated band-- perhaps the competition was too good then ( ac/dc.. aerosmith... def leppard...)----- I think the same thing with "The Sweet"-- VERY underrated---- CHEAP TRICK and THE SWEET RULE!!!!!!!

  • is it just me or is the lead guitarist trying to perform like Angus Young? With the weird hat , facial expressions, dancing all over the stage. Not sure who came first? Please advise. thanks

  • @wisers001 Cheap Trick and AC/DC were around the same time, I tihnk.

  • @wisers001 Cheap Trick hit first here in the U.S.A but, AC/DC was kicking around with Bon Scott singing a little earlier over seas... Rick Nelsion had a nerdy thing going were Angus was a school boy. Angus for sure did the move first.

  • @TheRockerchef - Cheers! Thanks

  • i really dont like advertisements..even if there 5 seconds i hate them

  • guitar hero 2 FTW

  • Tom Petersson is one of my favorite Bassists of all time. I love that 12-String Bass.

  • My brother Gordo looks just like Rick!! And Gordo idolizes Rick!!!

  • good..

  • I photographed Cheap Trick in 77 when they opened for Kiss. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • DETROIT ROCK CITY !!!!!!

  • @wilyoustay sounds more like budokan

  • F-lil baby wayne

  • what the fuck was that lil wayne shit ad...

  • They STILL sound that good!!! SxSW last year.... headlined... Robin's voice is STILL AMAZING!!! See if you can catch it on HDNet

  • Good Memories!!!!

  • Thumbs up if Detroit rock city brought you here:)
