Messier was never much of a fighter. Beating up Otto is no feat. He was an even worse fighter. Messier was a tough hockey player though, played the game rough and tumble, went to the corners and held up season after season playing more playoff games than I think anybody in history (or close) and doing so without sustaining major injury. That's impressive. Having said all this, he was one mean goon and cheapshot artist and at times performed some downright despicable acts on a hockey rink.
