The graphics for this game are top notch for the 2600. As much as I loved this game the Sega Master systems version was the one I bought (which came out before this I think). God I even remember the Gamepro mag prob. Dec. "89 that covered this game.
This game was made in 1989. It was one of the very last games ever programmed for the Atari 2600. The music on this game is quite impressive for the Atari 2600. The graphics are also pretty good for the Atari 2600. Sorry you didn't like it.
They would probably like the NES version better if they owned both the NES and the Double Dragon Game. I owned neither at the time.
Also, Atari was so much faster and more responsive than the NES. It had a whole different feel which I liked much better despite the inferior graphics. I was happy using my imagination for the lack of graphics -- even today.
Yeah, it is awesome. Most people never play it to the second or third level. They never see all of the colors and hear all of the music that got magically crammed into the Atari 2600. Brilliant!
I completed the game back in the very late 80s and early 90s. The colours were different to me and the player characters were blue and red. Is this on ROM?
Huh, interesting...I never knew Atari 2600 had Double Dragon. Looking at the date, it was made well into the NES years. I guess people were still buying Atari games in 1989? I wonder when companies stopped making games for the 2600?
This is a game that should never have been tried on the atari 2600, it was like trying to port Cruisin' USA to the NES. The 2600 at it's best couldn't even come close. The newest game that the atari 2600 does justice to is KLAX, which isn't bad at all and has most of the features, if not the graphics, of the arcade original.
Why did they bother to release that game on a system that was dead when I much better state of the art system had the same game that was much better? Intellivision and Colecovision were already better systems not to mention the NES.
MAybe because some people, like me, are fanatically devoted to the Atari. It has a religious overtone for me. (Bettcha forgot about your 1 year old comment?)
Yes, 2 player simultaneous play is possible. However, I do not recommend it. One player is limited to the top half of the playfield, while the other is limited to the bottom half. This makes most of my methods of play impossible. The game is much more difficult in 2 player mode and your score will be much lower. Plus, I've never found anyone else who is good at the game to really give it a real try.
LOL FUCKING AWESOME GAME DUDE !!^^i ever played atari 2600 as children..but i never know that exist double dragon on atari....:-(.I must go to buy a new atari mi old is bust but i still have the games : D!!Thx for video dude!^^
That tactic you're using on Bolo (?) at the end reminds me of the tactic I was using to beat Abore (DD2 Arcade) the other day... moving diagonally as you punch.
Why would Atari do this, it's just wrong. But then Aatari always made business decisions instead of artistic ones which is why i sucked so badly after Nintendo and Sega came out.
2600 came out in 1977. The 7800 was released after NES I think. This 2600 version of DD was indeed released in 1989 when the Atari was resurrected in the Jr. Model at a cheap price of $49.00.
Actually, the 7800 was released in May/June 1984, but it was discontinued for 2 years as soon as Jack Tramiel bought the company. But the NES still pre-dates the 7800 (the NES originated as the Famicom in Japan in 1983).
I didn't program it. I'm just attempting to show people how to play it more easily. Most claim it is unplayable. I've played all the way to the end. The 2600 version doesn't have a "continue" feature, so there's no cheating. Cheers, David
Learn how to master use of the elbow smash at will can guarantee success in this (very difficult)version of Double Dragon. I've beaten this game many times since I got it during the 80's doing nothing but elbow smashes to beat each opponent down.

We use to refer to the game as "Double Dragon Zero" (way before SF Zero and stuffs)

If you are outside of the USA, then you probably played an a PAL Rom instead of an NTSC ROM. That will make the colors different.
