We get these all the time. They're usually bill collectors or people trying to sell drugs. The reason why the number isn't working is because they don't even live in this country. They put fake caller id's so it doesn't look so suspicious. No need to freak out about it.
I don't know. But some S.O.B. keeps on calling me from (480)892-5113. When I answer nobody says anything. And when I call the number back I get the same message about the number being disconnected. They call my cell phone at least 10 times a day. I don't even bother answering anymore.
Call them back and if someone answers get their info and then tell them to stop calling you or you'll call the police on them and give the police the telemarketer's info.
@coondogtheman1234 I've tried calling them back but I keep on getting a message that the number has been disconnected. That's what's so crazy about the whole thing. I even looked up the number on an online reverse phone directory. It's listed as somebody's landline number in Arizona. I'm about ready to take your advice and go to the police though. Kind of wondering if it's some kind of identity theft scam thing.
@ridgerunner721601 I use to work in the telecom business. Play the three tones in the above recording and it will force their auto-dialer to remove you from their list. The number that appears on your phone when someone calls you is really nothing more then a text field in the signal code that is populated by the owner of the switch initiating the call. If they own their own switch (chances are they do) they can put what ever they want in that field.
@allygater56 After doing a bit of online research I found out this number among others are being used by some lousy vitamin company to sell their product. They called me again the other evening and I started squawking, whistling and screaming like a parrot. So far they haven't called back. Apparently they don't like talking to parrots...LOL.
@er10b LOL...Good idea. But for some reason they stopped calling me after the new year. I don't know. Maybe they went out of business or something. I sure hope so.
I think it's scammers. The number is probably a clean number but is forwarded after three rings to a dud. That way they see the call display and choose which calls to answer. so when ya call back to complain because your credit card was maxed out they appear to be out of business.
idk if someone mentioned this or not, but alot of landline answering machines have an option to "announce only" for voice messages. These are commonly used by doctors offices, auto shops to "announce" the hours of operation, etc. It's possible they just recorded a message and put it on announce so they wouldn't get a bunch of rude comments.
of a person actually having to manually dial a phone number. Comapnies will use their 800 numbers which routing through this system which sends it to a person. The number you are seeing is a dumby made by the software techs like myself. And that woman you are hearing is a "bellsouth" telephone company recording. Depending on the region companies like mine will contract with the telephone company dominating that region of the u.s. hense you getting a bellsouth disconnect notice. it is real.
omg, let me clear up a few things for everyone... ok? 1st of all... i work for a company, im not STUPID enough to say its name, where I create programs and software for just about every single major corp. ranging Chase, Wells Fargo, BofA, also for Verizon, collections agencies, telemarketing firms. you name it what is calling you is and automated or predictive dialing system. it is where you upload files/accounts to the program with a home phone and/or cell phone and/or work phone, and instead
yeah i worked in telemarketing for awhile all the numbers are outbound they actually do not exist if you try to call them back, the numbers unless 1800 are supposed to come up as restricted but sometimes they don't, definitely weird though.
hey dude this werid thing is that my grandma is dead and know where getting calls frome are old phone number thats be discntadet for a very long time aint that weird
is that a cellphone or landline? it's possible that someone has used that number. I think the phone co recycles numbers like if you get your phone DC your number goes to someone who is applying for service but i'm not sure on that one.
@set832 coondog is 100% correct, both cell and land numbers get re-used after a little bit. I think it's about 6 months last I checked, which was years ago, so it could've decreased.
that makes sense, some companies have numbers for making outgoing calls only and all you will get is an error or a recording from that co. saying that this number u called is used for outgoing calls.
ussualy telemarketer companies do this so you would know if it is a scam so when you give them the money then they would dissconnect the number or pretend it is and stuff like that
hm i do believe that they have just used that as the answering machine...why didnt the idiots just leave the phone off the hook...it makes that noise...then they could just use a tape recorder and play it into the answering machine...lol
idk if this is related or not, but ik someone someone that has a "calling card" where you can actually alter your voice and change the number you call from to anything you want it to be of any area code...i've never tried calling back any of the numbers used on it but possibly by calling it back, since the true call# is blocked by a chosen yet real#, it would go to a disconnected recording...just throwin it out there

oh yeah and there are companies out there that scam and spam like theres no tomorrow but if you take 2 mins and find out wat it is it may not be that bad. all the companies i worked for never took credit card numbers. only details to send out information and to contact them again. we do read out a privacy statement and if they want to be called again, they say so if not all the information gets deleted after we send info out. OH AND YOUR BANKS SELL YOUR DETAILS TO TELEMARKETING COMPANIES ASWELL
if it was really d/c then you would hear that message immediately.. since it wrang it means that is what they put for a voicemail/answering machine message to make you THINK the number has been d/c
well right so the number is valid but all it does is play that recording back when you call it, I think its the same if you call a business number back thats on your caller ID like if someone called you from a business line and you get a recording saying that this number is used for outgoing calls only. same idea here but they just change out the recording and program the system to play the recording twice then disconnect.
@57sicko wrong wrong wrong. No one is trying to conspire against you making you think the number is disconnected. The reason it does this is because all telemarketers call from outbound numbers. they can only make out going calls but not receive.
For nearly every company you will either get this or a busy signal, it does not mean that it is fake it any way.
