It's next to impossible to see an episode of the Scene, or the New Dance Show that followed it, without "The Percolator" and "Speed Racer"... I think these were DJ defaults while queuing up the next hits.
"Poison Ivy (instrumental)" and "No Way Back" were the DJ defaults. He said he used those songs to get the party started and introduce new music with the next blend.
man i never knew till after moving out of detroit, how uniquely detroit this was. i remember thinking every kid was watching this after school like i was. ha!
This takes me waaaaaay back!! Ms. Energy sure lived up to her name fa sho!! I miss all these Ol' Skool songs...they don't even mix like this no more in the D...dang I miss those days!!
that girl at 1:20 is fierce!!!!!! i can't stop watching this show.....such a treat...i would have loved to be on the show.....it is weird cuz i actually danced like this a few years later...without even seeing these kats do it before me...
this amazing..i always heard of detroit and the black fathers of techno....but this just proves how diverse our country is....i don't want to sound ignorant, but i never saw blacks as a group get down to this music before.....i don't think this would have happened anywhere else in the country...am I wrong???...i find it fascinating
It's okay that you didn't know before... :) Detroit has been a great techno center since disco died. There is a great techno festival there in Hart Plaza every summer where djs come to perform from all over the world. you should check it out. To be truthful, the best places to hear great techno and house are the black gay clubs around Detroit (especially around 6 Mile Rd). Enjoy!
all these songs are still played today at back yrad bbq's, b-day parties, gatherings. it truely has lasted and was truely our style. there is no dj worth his weight in detroit that doesnt have these cuts in a crate somewhere. its a must
well yeah, that is true. I wasnt trying to disregard anybodys fond memories or anything i was just kind of surprised that so many people were calling the music "amazing" and stuff.
i dont get whats the big deal about this music, its just typical 90s 'deephouse' music. I used to listen to this stuff all of the time. They sold it everywhere. Even at Sam Goody.
well deep-house or house, it sounds the same to me. But i live in Los Angeles and i remember hearing so many of these songs on cds and tapes that they sold around here too. It was just an observation.
This show was the "bomb" i was attending university of Windsor at the time and could not stop telling my friends in T.O how great this was, wow what memorys.
They don't know about da "D" back in the 80's! This takes me back big time! Major props to you for having this.
I used to watch some old Dance Show on TV. 71 Leased Access on Comcast Cable here in Detroit, but I haven't seen it on in awhile. They really need to bring this back!
I'm happy to say I was apart of Detroit history! I have over 100 tapes of both the scene and the new dance show and my collection is priceless. I haven't talked to any of the old dancers in years. I hope everyone is doing OK and still looks the same. LOL
2 AM has never been the same since CBS took over the station RJ Watkins is my booty daddy. I used to dance like these girls all the time... and I'm a white canadian dude... love this shizzle!!! Anyone remember the dracula dude! thanks for posting...!
It is real! Some of the best dancers in the world come out of Motown. These young people, for the time, were no exception. Thanks for such great entertainment.
A) better music than Soul Train ever thought of having
B) Instead of paid dancers, these are just your average Detroit citizens that you'd see at a club in the city. in other words, this shit is real compared to that fake Hollywood bullshit.
I never thiught that I would see this again! Classic! I'm sending all my peeps to this video. I didn't miss this show growing up. I remember when it was called the Scene! Now thats taking it back. Didn't see my man with the cape though?
what track is at 4:10?!!!

All respect to 'The new dance show,' but I much prefer the mid-80's on 'The Scene.' I was a dancer in 1985. The music was less techno.

It's not deep-house at all. This is like detroit techno or booty/ghetto house. And it's amazing.
