Tune...this was the great thing about going out back then...you'd hear a detroit track, then some vocal chicago stuff to lift you up, some Sheffiled bleep to trip you out a bit, a bit of 303 to trip you out even more, some tuff todd terry, a bit of hip house, then the italian screamers started to come in to blow the roof off. All FUCKIN ACE! I went to an Underground Resistane night a year or so ago, and it was ok but it was just 140bpm techno for 4 hours, no variety=boring night out!
One of the guys from Unique 3 told me a story about this track.
The sound engineer for this session was trained at the BBC, so everything was done 'by the book'.
They had to force the guy to leave the bass sound as they wanted it (which was blasting through the mixer so hot it was distorted as hell)...the BBC guy was having a heart attack telling them, 'You just can't do that!'....but they did, and this is what it sounds like :)
wow, east london, the dungeons, the wonderland centre, telepathy down in straford by bow, that scary place near homerton fire station. god. amazing times. all those places ever sold was lucazde and water! i wonder why!?!
Outstanding. I have this on 12" and this is the definitive version of the track. I remember being at a rococo event in b'ham in '89 when the sound system packed in and all the lights came up - while it was being fixed some blokes at the back of the dancefloor started doing this acapella style... we all carried on dancing, great times :)
This is the definitive version of this track. It's the M606 mix, the clue's in the name for those that know. This tune was the precursor for Tricky Disco, Track With No Name, Dextrous and half of the other bleep tunes that gave birth to this form of house music. House music all night long, no matter what flavour.
k3llz67, why are you commenting on something you weren't down with when it first come out? This is classic material!! If you can't appreciate it, stick to whatever you like! btw, what do you like?? I have an idea, but I don't want to embarrass you:)
@k3llz67 she probably could now fella(due to technology) but what you clearly dont understand is that in "1989"(21 'kin years ago pal!!) this was futuristic, pioneering & simply ahead of it's time, although not the best mix(this mix for the ride home, coming down) soz dude but gotta disagree with "load of cack". as usual it's a matter of personal taste/knowledge period. understand that. i do appreciate your s/o/h tho still!! lol
@k3llz67 try the "unique mix" which smashed the clubs although i'd imagine it going right over your head. or stick to ya dizzee rascal or something - lol!! :]
I first heard this on Friend's FM with Mad B in 89 and it was mixed in with something equally haunting. Mad B was really on fire for that session and I'll never ever forget it.
Its probably the first signs of a speed garage track . After review i still preffer the unique mix , but thats the only one i heard back them years ago , maybe the chill mix was big in clubs round your way , and ps good job in posting most of the other classics BIG UP !!! Especially roxanne shante live on stage hell yeah
man this is the boring mix .. and the bass waves sound terrible , although it does have have some good hi hats coming in on top . I never heard this mix back in 89 and im glad i never theres also no killer vocal breakdowns just my opinion so dont take it to seriously . Oh and theres also a chill mix
@subclonk yeah like mentioned above just a personal preference . Down south we got the other mix more vocal orientated , not as dark either . is this mix early speed garage in the making . well rave and peace on oldskoolpaul
i wanna take a magical mYstery tour wit good old sYd BacktotheoldsKool Summer of love '88(btw jesus i was like 10 back then! lol ...?weird beats i dig! acid licks...r so fine they blow my mind @ my soul hey yo bro's + sister is the Messiah queen godess r u Natashakimrochey hon lol paul x x d wKd G
OH DAM!!! This was practically the theme song of the L.A. underground techno scene in the late 80's/early 90's!!!
"OnE offs" of 7th & Mateo, Sante Fe Street, Bingo warehouse,etc...clubs like L.C.D, S.E.X., L.O.V.E, Willy Wonka, Dr. Seuss on the Loose, Nectar Sweatbox. etc!!!
if you were part of making this music wat it is now and still lu it i found 2 dj's called MasterCutz and DJ Ranger who play all this good shit. They're on icecoldfm if youre online or if your in london its icecoldfm 103.0fm. i think theyre on sundays 10am-12.But it not just house.its all old school music.1 week mite b house the next week rnb & soul.its a great listen.these boys have some real classics and they have alot a tunes.definete good listen. Energy sunrise, biology, raindance all crew
This epitomied the dark side of acid that the dancefloor could still cope with - - it's haunting nature making it more Acid than it actually was - bassline granted - because everyone was starting to put things in a box - - but it aint Acid
Not to mention all those fuckin ace Miami freestyle records and old-skool electro tunes....Jesus I feel old and grumpy!
