Lost Odyssey is made by Mistwalker, who also made the Final Fantasy series, so its no wonder that the music is a similar style and the gameplay too. Though I only played FF1,2,4,5,6,7 and 13, I can say out of all of them and Lost Odyssey, Lost Odyssey is my favourite, though 6 comes incredibly close.
Ha ha, now I am definitely digging this, nice piece of music. I'm getting this game in a couple days, so I do look forward to checking this out. I especially like when the pitch changes and adds to the intensity of the fight. Uematsu has composed some great stuff, I feel he should eventually retire with dignity and take a nice, long well deserved vacation from it all in due time.
This music started playing in my head as soon as I realized that my Spanish final is tonight instead of Wednesday night like I thought it was. GO GO GO!
This song actually has the type of melodies Uematsu was composing during his Famicom days(Circa FFI-FFIII, particularly). It actually sounds a LOT like the style he used in FFII. Ultra retro late 80s/early 90s RPG-styled music with full orchestra treatment(or a damn good synth).
This is just such a celebration of everything Nobuo Uematsu has done in the past decades, as was the rest of the game a celebration of everything JRPG.
I loved this game, but I never beat it :( I could NEVER get passed this part where I was on a train or something, and was fighting some... ice guy, I can't remember, it was so long ago.
But I basically had to play as the 4 people I didn't level up or anything, and that was freaking annoying.
@Shoji91 That's the fight where your only front line fighter is the little boy, who was a mix melee/caster. Essentially not who you wanted to have to rely on for survivability. Its one of the harder fights in the game.
I love how everyone is saying this game sucked. Maybe you fools forgot it was Hironobu fucking SAKAGUCHI who made this? Seriously, no one wants to you stupid posts about how this game is "archaic." Fighting on the internet is retarded. Case in point: STFU and listen to music
This game was the reason i bought a 360. And while it was good, the gameplay hurt, it was probably...6/10 at best. And while the previews look good, the unreal graphic engine really failed at some parts of this game.
While a good game, I think ff13, Valkyria Chronicles, Resonance of Fate are superior -- Even if LO's OST beats them out, it's gameplay isn't that much fun, sadly.
@Broshmosh Lost odyssey was super rushed, they made use of the unreal engine instead of writing their own, and as a result, we suffered the ring system which is a tired combat mechanic that has become very cliche. I am NOT saying it's a bad game by any means, but the gameplay hurt badly compared to FF13 which was a lot more fun imo. Best part of lost odyssey was 1000 years of dreams.
@IdeonFukkatsu well lost odyssey could have been a little faster but still it's battle mechanics crush final fantasy 13's overly compact battle system, ff13 is bacically the devil may cry equivelent of final fantasy with repetitive and long boss fights
@brainjuice654 The combat system is archaic here. They just copied last remnant's trigger hit sequence. They used unreal engine for christ's sake. The beginning of Lost Odyssey looks phenomenal, but once you clear that there's all kinds of graphical errors all through the game. Not that it isn't a great game; but it was rushed and it's obvious. Also Sheena Easton's song ruined any chance this game had at getting 10/10 score for ost.
@IdeonFukkatsu traditional battle systems are the best and always will be and vocals don't count as ost for all i care at least it doesn't have leona lewis >.< ff13 is one of the worst rpg's of this generation with it's long and repetitive bosses it's stupid compact commands. seriously i have more fun playing final fantasy 2 than 13 because it has way more character customization and it's the total opposite of linear and the classic turned based battle system. the atb bar idea in 13 sucked.
@brainjuice654 This game didn't sell well. The gameplay is tedious. And the pacing is bad. Kaim's amnesia was revealed so prematurely that the story was laid bare 10 hours into the gameplay.
But the real travesty was the gameplay. It was absolutely repetetive. And the mage characters who wore staffs: there was no point in even upgrading their weapon. Look at shin megami tensei games for how "traditional" style battles can be fun.
@Nanertot Because it isn't Final Fantasy, doesn't have any Final Fantasy elements in it that don't just classify as generic RPG elements, and because Final Fantasy was a Squaresoft/Square-Enix game, to name a few reasons.
Do you think this is better than the new FF games? My friend likes Odyssey over FF13. Do you agree? I look forward to play the Final Fantasy games. Which ones do you prefer?
@dondondokken it is better than 12 and 13 yes. the newer FF are by far crappier than the older ones. but this game is better than some of the other ffs, yes. i will agree with your friend on that. but theirs a few ff i had more fun playing than this one, just cause i was able to get into the storyline much more than this.

@phrozr It isnt that hard, just take out the two Magic Energy Units then it can't do its big attacks or absorb your HP. Dont be scared of using spells, use ground/grounda. Get Cooke to use Zephyr every 2 or 3 turns and you cant lose! (I couldnt beat it either but then i used this strategy!) BTW, Best game ever!!! It has everything you want in a game. Guns, magic, swords, massive storyline (I still havent finished it!) Awsome Music and graphics! My favourite bit has got to have been Obsidian Mack
This game was really good. But I couldn't finish it. It wasn't too hard. It wasn't boring. I didn't get stuck on a puzzle. The battles were WAY too long. I mean, the fights weren't bad, but seriously, the showing of the surroundings every single time got SO annoying, and eventually, I quit because of them. =/
Despite the amazing orchestra work, this sounds totally old school. You can easily translate this into a 16- or 8-bit soundtrack in your mind. Given the nature of the game, I bet this was totally intentional. Awesome, as always, Nobuo Uematsu.
I judge rpgs by their music because lets face it, your gonna hear the battle theme a shitload of times. I can only force myself to be patient with the rpg if its normal battle theme is awesome, as well as the standard shit hitting the fan music. Getting attacked by enemy soldiers and being chased by a tank is very shit hitting the fan and I loved every moment of it because of this song.
Uematsu just has to touch something to make it 9999999999999999 times better. if he came back he'd be able to make FFXIII's soundtrack better than any other one. he's. just. that. fucking. good.
I swear is 2010 and this is my favorite game this gen. I have a ps3 and i only play this in my firend house. I love this game better than all my ps3 game.
@RocmanRaz dude, why don't you get it ? I KNOW that he is the composer and i KNOW that he composed the FF soundtracks. i knew it from the beginning, stop making those weird fucking answers.
Actually while he is behind many of the FF soundtracks, he did not compose all the games. I... THINK that FF4 was an example where he did not compose the soundtrack.
@RockXIII LOL, thats funny. You are right and wrong. He composed teh ORIGINAL soundtrack for the SNES Final Fantasy 4. When they did the Nintendo DS remake, it was composed by Junya Nakano and Kenichiro Fukui
@RocmanRaz So I have them to blame for messing up Zeromus' theme. They did good with every other track, but man, it moves at a snails pace compared to the SNES or GBA versions.
@GRH235 I know, he quit working for Square-Enix a while ago. I believe his reasoning was he did not like the direction that the company was going in. I could be wrong about the reasoning though.
One of the reasons that The FF series has suffered so much in it's latest installments is because neither Sakaguchi or Uematsu were part of the project.
@bo49107 Well, I don't think that'd happen. Sakaguchi and Uematsu are both pretty disillusioned with Sony's underhanded business practices. As Uematsu once said, he'd prefer to be in the business of making dreams, as opposed to making money.
@bo49107 I was also forced to buy a 360. I highly recommend that you do that too, you won't regret it. The epicness of this game equals that of a FF7. Once you play it, the memories will stay with you until your death.
@bo49107 I was also forced to buy a 360. I highly recommend that you do that too, you won't regret it. The epicness of this game equals that of a FF7. Once you play it, the memories will stay with you until your death.
@bo49107 You have no choice. Just like PS3 users can't get Mass Effect (but they can get Mass Effect 2) because Microsoft owns the intellectual property.
Your best bet would be to buy a used 360 for cheap (what I did) or hope he makes a sequel (doubt it) or just get The Last Story for Wii when it comes out (cause thats looking awesome too)
Am I the only one who see's some striking similarities in the melody which almost sounds like Battle with the Four Fiends by Nobuo Uematsu? I would see it fits perfectly as a boss theme, as it has that same boss bass line you hear in most FF games if you listen carefully. One of my favourites :)
@Vasiothe Well you do know that MIstwalker, the guys that made this game, came from the original FF team that split from SquareEnix and left. Its why this game has so many similarities to the FF series
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
personally i think this soundtrack lacks a sense of urgancy and impending danger that most boss fights have. i would have chosen this track for a mini boss fight maybe and even then it's still a bit lacking in boss battle matreal. that's not to say howeverthe music itself isn't good. it's EVERYTHING i've come to expect form Nobuo Uematsu pure greatness:D
i;ve owned this game from the day it was launched. there was no need to be so insulting. i was merely stating my personal opinion. when i compare this boss theme to other works Nobuo Uematsu it ( to me) really DOES lack the since of urgency that would normally be found in his other works, i'm not saying it's entirely absent. there was no need to be so insulting.
welcome to the internet pal, If you're not being insulted, chances are you aren't expressing your opinion.
Personally, I completely disagree with the idea that this track doesnt have that feeling of "Urgency or impending danger" as you claim. LO easily is nobous best work in recent memory, saying it isnt is ignorant.
that is your opinion, and i respect that. on another note, i never actually said this was bad, just because i said it lacks a since of danger doesn't mean i think it's bad. take a look at my original post. i DID say this was everything i expected from nobou, pure greatness. this track is actually one of my favs that i listen to all the time as i surf the net
I can see why people would compare this to Final Fantasy because Nobuo Uematsu did a lot of the music. 8D

I wonder if Uematsu is the God of music in disguise?
I mean, is there a OST which he has made that sucks?

Nobuo Uematsu, the MAN, did this OST :)

@RocmanRaz i know.... never asked for it, but uh yeah... weird comment :P
PerixX 2 years ago
Nobuo Uematsu is the Composer. He is the guy behind all the Final Fantasy titles
RocmanRaz 2 years ago
@RocmanRaz dude, why don't you get it ? I KNOW that he is the composer and i KNOW that he composed the FF soundtracks. i knew it from the beginning, stop making those weird fucking answers.
... gosh.
PerixX 2 years ago
Weird answer ;)
RocmanRaz 2 years ago
Actually while he is behind many of the FF soundtracks, he did not compose all the games. I... THINK that FF4 was an example where he did not compose the soundtrack.
RockXIII 1 year ago
@RockXIII LOL, thats funny. You are right and wrong. He composed teh ORIGINAL soundtrack for the SNES Final Fantasy 4. When they did the Nintendo DS remake, it was composed by Junya Nakano and Kenichiro Fukui
RocmanRaz 1 year ago
@RockXIII Actually...I should not say "Composed by Junya Nakano and Kenichiro Fukui" it was "remastered" by them
RocmanRaz 1 year ago
@RocmanRaz So I have them to blame for messing up Zeromus' theme. They did good with every other track, but man, it moves at a snails pace compared to the SNES or GBA versions.
vopop30 1 year ago
Not all of them, Sadly... :(

wrong. ff13 he did not do.
GRH235 1 year ago
@GRH235 I know, he quit working for Square-Enix a while ago. I believe his reasoning was he did not like the direction that the company was going in. I could be wrong about the reasoning though.
RocmanRaz 1 year ago
Port to PS3 please :D
I really want to play this if only because it has Uematsu, but I'm not buying a 360 just for this one game.
This is one of Uematsu's greatest boss themes!
bo49107 2 years ago 10
@bo49107
That they should do.
One of the reasons that The FF series has suffered so much in it's latest installments is because neither Sakaguchi or Uematsu were part of the project.
BlackWaltz5 2 years ago
@bo49107 I wish they would, I have both systems and this is an incredible game. I just finished FFXIII and LO easily compares to it.
Towmotorseth 1 year ago
@bo49107 xbox 360 is better than ps3 so why don't just buy a xbox 360 ^^ it has better games too in my opinion
Br4indude 1 year ago
@bo49107 The game is epic in many ways, especially if you are a fan of old school japaneese RPGs.
zubodybop 1 year ago
@bo49107 I got it for this and Blue dragon, its so worth it!
Yuzoboy 1 year ago
@bo49107 Well, I don't think that'd happen. Sakaguchi and Uematsu are both pretty disillusioned with Sony's underhanded business practices. As Uematsu once said, he'd prefer to be in the business of making dreams, as opposed to making money.

@bo49107
dude...buy a 360...the music is just the cherry on the cake...the game is awesome! :)
megget123321 1 year ago
@bo49107 i bought it just to play this...it was worth every penny
Blentastic 1 year ago

Vasiothe 2 years ago 5
@Vasiothe Well you do know that MIstwalker, the guys that made this game, came from the original FF team that split from SquareEnix and left. Its why this game has so many similarities to the FF series

personally i think this soundtrack lacks a sense of urgancy and impending danger that most boss fights have. i would have chosen this track for a mini boss fight maybe and even then it's still a bit lacking in boss battle matreal. that's not to say howeverthe music itself isn't good. it's EVERYTHING i've come to expect form Nobuo Uematsu pure greatness:D
outlaw0987654321 2 years ago
LOL you're a fucking retard dude. This song SCREAMS urgency and impending danger. Dont critique music ever again.
raded293 2 years ago
Oh and not only does this music scream urgency, It's not the only boss theme in the game. It's used for maybe 1/3 of the boss battles in the game.
You'd know this had you actually played the game which apparently, you havent making your opinion all the more invalid and even more so ignorant.
Congrats dipshit.
raded293 2 years ago
i;ve owned this game from the day it was launched. there was no need to be so insulting. i was merely stating my personal opinion. when i compare this boss theme to other works Nobuo Uematsu it ( to me) really DOES lack the since of urgency that would normally be found in his other works, i'm not saying it's entirely absent. there was no need to be so insulting.
outlaw0987654321 2 years ago
welcome to the internet pal, If you're not being insulted, chances are you aren't expressing your opinion.
Personally, I completely disagree with the idea that this track doesnt have that feeling of "Urgency or impending danger" as you claim. LO easily is nobous best work in recent memory, saying it isnt is ignorant.
Im 20 btw.
raded293 2 years ago
that is your opinion, and i respect that. on another note, i never actually said this was bad, just because i said it lacks a since of danger doesn't mean i think it's bad. take a look at my original post. i DID say this was everything i expected from nobou, pure greatness. this track is actually one of my favs that i listen to all the time as i surf the net

I don't like people like you that present their opinion as fact...
Maturity on the Internet certainly does exist!
although I think we both agree it is unneeded on some sites.
