  • A direct descendant of the great Daniel Boone and cousin of actor/ singer Pat.

  • greatest business card ever... an intellectual who took care of straightening out messes, no questions asked... is he available to run for President?

  • regular saturday night viewing in my youth. gosh I wish they had shows like this now..

  • I'm 19 and I really like this song.

  • @TheNewRiflemanBob Glad you enjoyed it. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 You too. Thanks man.

  • I saw this when I was 9 years old,one of the best!

  • red dead redemption

  • they don't write great tv themes anymore (they also don't make great tv shows anymore)...this is a great one!

  • @gpcolucci I entirely agree thank you. Best Regards!

  • Paladin was the reason I first wanted a black shirt, but my mom didn't agree! It would be many years later when I could buy my own. I sure miss my mom now but I can watch Paladin every day on the Westerns Channel!

  • One of my favorite westerns!

  • I'd forgotten what a fine voice Johnny Western had

  • I'm teaching my daughter to sing this. It's our song when I take her for walks on my shoulders.

  • One of the best series ever developed. A single focal character and each episode we learned something new about who he was and what his own codes and morals were. The episode that tells how he became Paladin is one of the best television scripts ever written as you can see the transformation as it unfolds.

  • @CombatSportFan - Which episode has Palidan's origin. I've never seen it, andd would like to. Thanks.

  • @Halidan0828 Episode 193 (first episode of the final season) "Genesis.)" One of the best episodes the series produced.

  • I used to watch this show in the late 1950's on Saturday night as a 8 yr old. As soon as the show ended it was bed time. LOL!!

  • a great series and actor. watch ten wanted men he is in it.

  • STOP THE NWO OBAMA NDAA MUST BE STOPPED. GHOST!

  • "have gun will travel reads the card of a man

a knight without armor in a sava--"

    SHUT UP VERN!

  • Paladin was my hero from age 3 and I'd bellow out this tune when it came on. When he wore black you knew he meant business! I remember getting a 'Have Gun Will Travel' gun and holster set for my 4th b'day in '59. I still carry one of the cards in my wallet! Ride on Paladin!

  • A great series that followed the book. One of my favorites the gun belt rig is now available for single action shooters.

  • TV's first film-noir western!

  • I occasionally watch it on TV, DVD and online. One of the best shows ever, along w/Miami Vice and Rockford Files.

  • @TeaParty1776 The show is certainly my favourite TV western my friend glad you are enjoying it. Best Regards!

  • @TeaParty1776 I doubt my question can and will be answered after all this time, but - what were those wheels, surely moved by wind, such as the one that can be seen at 0:56 in this video? This was my favourite TV show when I was living in the USA (it's now a matter of 50-plus years ago... I liked it better than "Gunsmoke". How come there's such a profusion of oild Gunsmoke videos available now on YT, but very little of "Paladin"?

  • @Gheorgyi The Wheel you mention was used to draw water from a well if I remember correctly. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 AND Lloydhl - Thank you.

  • @Gheorgyi You are very welcome my friend. Best Regards!

  • @Gheorgyi

My pleasure, glad I could help!

  • @Gheorgyi

Just saw your question, the "wheel" is a Windmill, used to pump water for livestock on the range or farm, the wind turned the wheel which then pumped water from a well drilled below, sometimes it was quite deep to reach the water far below the surface!

  • @Gheorgyi when the wind would blow it would turn the the sqaure ketcher and would spin the weel drawing water out of the well

  • I am only 31.So,too young to remember when this show was first aired. But,i remember reruns of it.Plus,i watch it on the Netflix.

  • @oklahomaer26 Glad you get the opportunity to watch the show my friend. Best Regards!

  • Save the day, Quote a little Shakespeare

    back in 'Frisco,

got him a chick in a hoop-skirt on each arm!

  • Thumbs up if family guy brought you here(:

  • They should rename this song to Balladin

  • Sorry for the butchering, only allowed 550 charters. There was more to the story!!!!!!

  • I hadgotten the Paladin gunset in1959 During college in1970 wewould get watchit Ibrought the cards sowe couldthrow them down withPaladin atthe start ofthe show. About7yrslater one of my friendswho lived near Pittsburg Pa wasattheairport when RichardBoone came offthe airplane myfriend still had his card &asked Richardto sign it. 9yrs ago myfriend told me he lost the card! Imaginethe chancesof running into Richard Boone & havinga HaveGunWillTravel card & him autographing it!I would have framed it!

  • Have Gun Will Travel is now on the Western Channel every week day. If I can't watch it, I DVR it. Palladin is the man, after John Wayne, of course. =Stefan=

  • Yea, this song evoked the 'roaming' that was to consume countless lives in 50's and 60's America as well as the bleak but resolute existential affirmation, 'you're so far from home'.

And we knew we were beyond salvation. We were Paladins.

  • @slightofffist Well said ... also captured on TV in those days by shows like Route 66 and The Fugitive, even Star Trek.

  • @slightofffist Paladin had values, unlike existentialist nihilists.

  • One of the great western theme songs. Duane Eddy introduced me to this one.

  • Marty Robbins brought me here.

  • He is a nice Man and Man can Johnny Sing!

  • paladin came too soon for me,,,but richard boone will always be a great cowboy for me,,great actor,,thanks for the memory,,

  • Got to love a video where Richard Boone starts out a righthanded gunslinger and ends up using his left hand at the end. lol This usually happens when the negatives (remember film?) were juxtapositioned. Flipped. It's funnier with guitar players. Can't say I've ever seen this on a cowboy.

I too remember HGWT leading into Gunsmoke on Saturday nights. Great television when families were glued to the TV Richard Boone reminds me of John Kay of Steppenwolf fame. Facially distinctive.

  • What I remember about this show...

Saturday night, either right before or right after Gunsmoke and Maverick..

I didn't know what a "paladin" was for years (a knight). Had to look it up in the dictionary. I don't think it was his name, just his nome de guerre.

If you watch closely, parts of "Have Gun Will Travel" were actually recorded outside on location. The other shows were done in studios exclusively.

  • Paladin.

For when you think all is down and out in the world, this is where you turn.

My dad first got me hooked on this show when we got the Encore package with dish network.

I never even knew it existed until then and now I am wishing I grew up in that time.

  • Oh Yeah, this was my favorite western when I was a kid. My mother didnt like him she said he looked evil

  • @BADDOOKUS But that's what made him cool !! I hear Richard Boone actually wrote the song and a guy called Johnny Western sings it, Johnny was in one of the episodes as well. right now it's my favorite show, I even bought an original Palladin and horse figure on e bay lol

  • exc123 actually Bronson was in several of the episodes

  • I remember Richard Boone as "Hec" Hector Ramsey in the early 70's. A very good actor I thought.

  • Richard Boone, one of the most underated actors, what a gret presennce he was, no matter what was going on int the scene when he showed up, you went right to him and stayed with him.almost stole Hondo away from Newman,He was the coolest when i was a teen,i mean gezeee even even carried a card..very cool..Richard Boone........A MANS MAN!!

  • what is a Paladin

  • @oldermusiclover

A soldier of fortune, a knight, a hero, etc.

  • rest in peace ray brower...

  • @ILoveChrisChambers Ray Brower's body gave me nightmares as a kid.

  • @shadowman2192 lolol

  • @MrCharleslol Everytime I watch Stand by me I have to look away when Ray's body is revealed.

  • @shadowman2192 why is that? ray brower's body is hardly shown. I actually wish they showed more of the body

  • Oh, I remember this, with Richard Boone, looking like a relation to Charles Bronson! Unique name for a show, and as a kid I often heard that "HAVEg'nwiltravel" was about to come on, long before I understood what it was! I wonder how many people called it by something like that.

  • @carmium Many folks used to refer to the show as Paladin rather than Have Gun Will Travel my friend. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 Some viewers erronesly believed his first name was Wire causue it read wire paladin on his business card paladino had a rodeo in rhode island he sued the producers they said it was suppose to be a detective show but an add agency we can get randolph scott

  • @spacepatrolman You are correct my friend many folks did assume that Paladin's name was wire because of his business card. Best Regards!

  • @carmium He did an episode with Charles Bronson, where he started out hunting Bronson, then respecting him as a friend and then having to kill him, but Bronson wanted to go out in a blaze of glory rather than hang in a carnival like ceremony. Great episode1

  • Ron Swanson brought me here.

  • Stand By Me!! brought me here

  • @WVUrockerBoy Thank you, hope you enjoyed the video. Best Regards!

  • @WVUrockerBoy That is my favorite movie.

  • What a great show and I'm glad I can watch Have Gun Will Travel on ENCWS!!

  • @OU812ICRUNVS Glad your enjoying the show my friend. Best Regards!

  • In my estimation, the television program that came closest to Have Gun Will Travel was The Equalizer. The character of Robert McCall shared many similarities with Paladin.

  • @DarkWraith Edward Woodward's portrayal of Robert McCall The Equalizer was excellent, he like Paladin sought justice for his clients. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 Like Paladin, Robert McCall was a cultured, educated man who was, by equal parts circumstance and choice, operating in a violent world. I doubt if Eminem's portrayal of Paladin will reach the same level but I hope that he can at least reach the level of Hawk from A Man Called Hawk.

  • @DarkWraith It remains to be seen if Eminem's performance will be noteworthy my friend. The character of Hawk developed significantly when the short lived TV series was aired, Hawk became more like a traditional hero figure slightly different from the character portrayed in Spenser For Hire don't you think. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 Hawk's evolution as a character was interesting to watch. One can only hope that will be the case with the movie version of Paladin if it ever comes to fruition.

  • @DarkWraith We can live in hopes my friend. Best Regards!

  • I remember watching "Have Gun Will Travel" back in the late 50's and early 60's. I loved it. Guess what? The "Western Channel" is showing it now. It's been so long since I've seen them, each episode seems new. Richard Boone is the MAN!!

(Next to John Wayne, of course). =Stefan=

  • @chengloki Thank you my friend I am glad you are again watching Have Gun Will Travel and enjoying it. Best Regards!

  • What has happened to the Western on TV ? Evil has been dismissed as "man (or woman) who has been misunderstood". So murderers, rapists, child molesters, bank robbers, and other evil does are now tolerated. For instance, a football coach sees his assistant sexual assualting a young boy doesn't do anything but report it to his supervisior is a gutless wonder. Paladin would have said stop or I'll shot you.

  • @vkorchnoifan , i don't think he'd have 'said' that, just shot the mofo like a mad dog.

  • This songs awesome. Glad I watched Stand by me haha

  • @TheSethproductions YES!!! I KNOW! love that movie.

  • This is when tv was at its best

  • @Nightowl631 I am in agreement there my friend, it truly was. Best Regards!

  • @Nightowl631 very true

  • Part of me both dreads and wonders how this will sound like when Eminem turns it into rap for the remake where he plays Paladin.

  • @DarkWraith Eminem is no Richard Boone that is for sure my friend, I share your dread about how the remake will sound. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 My guess is that the "modern" Paladin will most likely be more violent than the original, especially if (according to some) Michael Bay will be involved in it.

  • @DarkWraith You are most probably right my friend given that the present time we live in is far more violent than it was during the 1950's. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 In which case, there will be little to differentiate the "modern" Paladin from the standard action hero. The original Paladin was truly one of a kind and few characters from the Wild West era of television or film can compare to him.

  • @DarkWraith Your assessment of the character of Paladin being one of a kind is spot on my friend, he was a man of honour and culture those are rare qualities and most probably will not be seen in a modern version of Paladin. Best Regards!

  • What a man..please come back you are needed and missed

  • @gollyanamegame If only that was possible my friend it would be great. Best Regards!

  • What's great is that you can watch the ENTIRE series on netflix if you have it.

  • @thorgrim103 Thank you my friend the show is available on Encore also I believe. Best Regards!

  • Brings back good memories!!

  • @jhmoonman Very good memories my friend. Best Regards!

  • But can he bubble-hearth?

  • So, Have Gun Will Travel was the name of the TV show and The Ballard of Paladin was the title of the theme tune? I can't remember the show, but I do know the Duane Eddy version of the tune!

  • @Poopingbotham If you get the chance to watch the show I think you will enjoy the experience my friend. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 If I can find an episode on here (Youtube) I'll most certainly watch it!

  • @Poopingbotham Thank you my friend you may be able to see the show on Encore if you have access to that channel. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1 was a great show hey hopboy

  • @TheDreamer122 I agree my friend a great show indeed. Best Regards!

  • @Poopingbotham ONE OF MY FAVS GROWINGUP I COULD IMAGINEI WAS RIGHT THERE WITH HIM IT WAS THAT GOOD GINNYLYNN

  • I watched Have Gun Will Travel every week when I was a Kid. Great memories, Great times.

  • But was he Prot or Ret?

  • @Xistove Well, the song say's he's "a knight without armor", so clearly he can't be Prot.

  • I heard eminem will play paladin

  • My memory of this theme song is different. Granddaddy was apparently watching this show while my Aunt (age 6) and I (age 2) were jumping on furniture. The song brought that silly memory back! Thanks for the memory! =-)

  • @Isabelstory1 I am pleased you have those happy memories my friend. Best Regards!

  • I love this

I love it in stand by me

  • HAVE-GUN-WILL-TRAVEL is my email at hgrfirearms ... ;)) PS. it's more than just and emai address .... look me up under the instructors tab.

  • Yea... Possibly THE MOST Gangster/Thugged Out song in history hands down.

  • THANK YOU!!!! I love your videos!

  • @lokotasioux You are welcome my friend, I am pleased you enjoy my videos. Best Regards!

  • If you read the book "Stuntman! My Car-crashing, plane-jumping, bone-breaking, death-defying Hollywood life" by Hal Needham he talks a bit about being the stunt guy on this show.

  • @G1 Thank you for the information my friend. Best Regards!

  • very awsome loved episodes, watched as child on black/white rca tv

  • @SuperKasson1 Happy memories my friend. Best Regards!

  • This theme means so much to the native americans who were slaughtered all in the name of "progress"

Buffalo Buffalo where do you roam?

  • Thank you for the note, Best Regards to you.

  • Would love to meet Johnny Western or see him before he leaves us, its a shame only live a 100 miles from Wichita, but still hear his radio show from time to time.........

  • @MegaAutostop It would be great to meet Johnny in person, I hope you may get the chance one day my friend. Best Regards!

  • thumbs up if you heard this on Sand By Me

  • How nice to read these comments! I love this song too, and the memory of Richard Boone in the tv series. Greetings to all who share these good feelings.

  • @kokolanza Thank you my friend, very well said. Best Regards!

  • have tuba, will travel. thumbs up if you know what i am talking about

  • I love this song! I have to hear it every night!

  • When TV was worthwhile watching. . . glad I was born of this age to have enjoyed entertainment of this calipher.

  • @Micelli1947 Thank you my friend it was the golden age of TV I think. Best Regards!

  • Stand by Me, the movie!!!! :-D

  • It's a shame that they can't make tv shows like this anymore

  • Used to watch this when it came out as a kid; also had the HGWT board game they made to cash in on the show's popularity. My dad met Paladin on another TV show of the 60s.

  • @Wahian1 That is brilliant my friend, I wish I had been able to meet Paladin, your dad was very lucky. Best Regards!

  • @DaZINGERMAN1 Thank you my friend. Best Regards!

  • I LOVED THIS SONG AND HATED WHEN THEY CUT IT SHORT AND RAN COMMERICALS OVER THE ENDING.

  • Another cool old western ! I remember the kid next door ( back in the day ) had a

" Paladin " double- holster set, complete with silver gun, bullets, and the " Have gun - will travel" business cards ! Wonder what it would be worth today, to a toy collector ?!

  • Hummm! - I remember liking that song better & thinking the song sounded better quality - SO - Is this the original singer & song? - Sorry - Haven't heard it in years - LOL -

  • i first heard this song in Stand By Me the movie, I was too young to watch the show as a kid, but now that I too have Encore Western channel, i dont go a day without watching Have Gun Will Travel, and hearing this song! Richard Boone is hilarious even when he's trying to be serious! thank you for posting this!

  • @rkabernathy You are welcome my friend I am glad you are enjoying the show. Best Regards!

  • Give me a show like this over any of the shit that they pass off for entertainment today, anyday.

I never heard of this show unfortunately until I got encore westerns, and now I watch it every chance I get.

    Paladin rules!

  • @GojyotheFeared - great comment. Believe it or not, there were many great shows like this back in those days. HGWT was among the very best. I am so glad that people of your generation can now enjoy it as we did back in the day.

  • @1400deadwood

Indeed. A great show with a great song. Inspiring lyrics.

It's a shame that they don't make shows like this or actors like Richard Boone anymore.

Some of the shows today I love, like Boston Legal (which unfortunately was canceled after only 5 seasons when there was so much talent with great entertainment value). The Closer (which is in it's final season as well). Mike and Molly for pure entertainment purposes as well as Modern Family.

But these shows are few and far

  • between.

WHich is why I find myself watching a lot of the older shows like Have Gun WIll Travel.

I've also been watching All In The Family and The Golden Girls.

One I grew up with and one my parents grew up with (sorta since they were in their late teens early 20's when All In The Family was on but a great show none the less.)

Shows like these are really hard to find these days.

  • @GojyotheFeared Thank you my friend I am glad you discovered the show, shows back when Have Gun Will Travel was made had substance and in the case of HGWT they also had a moral to the stories. Best Regards!

  • @firsthighlander1

    I wholehearted agree.

Most of the stuff today doesn't have anything except. "oh look, here's an explosion of epic proportions!"

Or, "Hey, here's your favorite boy idole without a shirt on or your favorite fem idol in skimpy clothing!"

    That's all it really is.

HGWT rules and I'm saddened that I never got to grow up with it.

But now I'm going to start a search for every episode that I can find.

  • @GojyotheFeared You are quite right about the modern shows today they have very little to them. I hope you can view every episode of HGWT, I still think it is the best TV western series ever made. Best Regards!

  • What a fantastic song!

I've just started watching this show on Netflix and only heard this song on the first episode. I've watched up to episode 9. Did they start using it again later?

  • @cartoonistaaron The song used to be played at the end of each episode as I recall. Best Regards!

  • You're Welcome..Firsthightlander.

  • Long Before..he became gunfighter for hre"Palladin"..Mr.Boone was a regular on tv's very first educational kids show"Mr.I Magination!"With Paul & Ruth Tripp,Joe Silver,Ted Tiller and Walter Mathau.

  • @TheStanbabe Great info my friend thank you. Best Regards!

  • Back in the GOOD OLE DAYS!

  • @cattleco1945 That was the time to live my friend. Best Regards!

  • Great show, but when I viewed this clip it was embedded w/ an Obama 2012 ad - Give me a f^%in break Obummer is the exact opposite of Paladin - however I can see how Paladin is coming for him.

  • @imthemidnghtrider I am a great fan of Paladin he is the exact opposite of Obama. Obama is the worst President in the history of The United States in my opinion. It is unfortunate that someone has embedded this video on an Obama ad, they certainly never asked my opinion nor my permission. Thank you for letting me know my friend. Best Regards!

  • Paladin, Wanted Dead or Alive, The Rebel, all defined cool. Of course Steve McQueen kept it going until his death.

  • Stand by me, railroads....

  • my little pony (friendship is magic) brought me here.. have tuba, will travel

  • Need to bring this show back, teach kids how to be a real man

  • @brandonhornsby Or better yet, an honorable man.

  • Have gun will travel reads the card of a man!

I can just imagine Gordie, Chris, Teddy & Vern singing this.

    Stand By Me FTW!

  • Wow! Western had an incredible voice. He wrote and sang many songs from that era. Got his first guitar at 12 and was performing professionally by 13. I rest my case. As far as the show, no one absolutely no one could have play Paladin but Richard Boone! On Definition for the Name Paladin: Any determined advocate or defender of a noble cause

  • @ellenthorp1 Johnny Western has the perfect voice I think and Richard Boone brought the character of Paladin to life and gave him substance, I agree no other actor could have been so perfectly suited to the role. Adding to your definition of a Paladin it also means a knight errant. Thank you for your excellent comment my friend.

    Best Regards!

  • written by Johnny West, too

  • there were oodles of Westerns on back in the Day and thise was the Very BEST.

    eminem?

he can't sing much less act. All he does is curse his Mom.

I wish nothing good on that guy.

  • @iowastate I agree Have Gun Will Travel was the very best my friend. Best Regards!

  • What an Amazing! Amazing voice Johnny Western has!!!!!

  • @ellenthorp1 Thank you my friend I am in total agreement he has a truly amazing voice. Best Regards!

  • I remember watching Gunsmoke, Bonanza and of course Have Gun - Will Travel with my Grandpa growing up. I still love them all. Wish we would get some westerns back on modern TV. The last one I can remember is Young Riders and that was early 90s.
