'Emo' was style of clothing/ music that got way out of hand, and over-exaggerated. What once started with older bands like Rites of Spring and Weezer ended up with shit bands who didn't have the 'emotion' side of it, just the look...which consequently made all the other bands who were actually doing music for all the right reasons look like the posers who were destroying the scene. Thankfully, people have seen that posers are just time wasting.
