As for the books, yeah, I want them to be balanced but at the same time I don't think he can sit by and do nothing. He has to try to balance things out by spending. Without it you risk causing more trouble than you solve.

2) Fiat currency isn't a perfect system but neither is the gold standard. With the gold standard currency is hard to come by, it's attached to a rare metal and skews things in favor of Gold rich countries. No system is perfect.
But it doesn't matter, what I'm saying fiat currency is still worth something because people accept it as payment. That's what worth means in this case... that people are willing to accept it as money.
So GM isn't exactly being bailed out with worhless paper.

3) No, they can't create that money. They must borrow it. The Fed doesn't have to for good reasons primarily having to do with market perceptions on a company borrowing money. Even a sound company will regularly borrow money. Having to go to the Fed may give off the impression that it's in bad shape. So it and the fed hide this information.
Gold, incidentally, is at a high price because Gold is always purchased during recessions. It's a sound investment. High prices don't prove anything.

Gold is money (base of value) The US Fed note isn't backed by anything, so it can go to zero. What's wrong with a competing currency, at least if it was backed by silver or gold it won't go to 0. The Fed is just a big rip off of poor folk.

The money is basically backed by foreign currency. If they printed money then world markets would react by dumping T-bills making the USD worth nothing.
Btw gold saw a huge jump in the early 70's. Prior to that it had been stable because Gold had been used to back currency so its value wasn't market based.
But remember, Gold is only worth what people will pay for it like any good's value it is not intrinsic. it Is essence a fiat value as well. Nothing prevents it from going to 0 except agreement

yes, but that would require the USD going to 0. That's virtually impossible unless the government starts printing much much much more money than is currenctly in the system and simulatenously all currencies stop pegging to the dollar, switch to another currency (like the GBP) and all world markets agree the US economy is worthless... as bad as things are the US economy is still a beast, the dollar is still used and the government isn't printing money. it's issuing debt obligations.

the point is that fiat currencies aren't based on nothing. Stock prices aren't based on nothing... they're based on the assume worth of the company. Speculation distorts this value but that's typically what investors look for. The same applies to currency although the mechanisms are a little less obvious and sometimes more complex (companies fail regularly. Countries, especially world powers, rarely if never do so there's more inherent risk in stock trades).

Ted, the only time I know of that statehood was on the table was the British mandate, and the following UN treaty which was not accepted by the Arab states. If you can point to a news source or something documenting an offer of statehood from Israel, I'd be happy to look at it.
As far as the Six Day War, there are so many factors going into that mess I'm not going to say whether one side was more responsible, but the people that lost were the refugees, not the governments on either side.
