  • Ear candy and eye candy!

  • Que Gran Cambio o_o

  • @bodiloto Di nuovo hai completamente ragione. Come volume poco differenza.

  • Great sound! It's a different way of singing but he's at the same level with Pavarotti or Kraus...

  • Amore mio, quanto sei bravo e quanto ti voglio bene :)

  • @federricoilgrande Ti stimo fratello.

  • can't stand him.

  • does he start singing in B note?.... the note Pour mon ame me me is C?... and the last note high note is a C too?. thanks a lot

  • IF you compares both vibrating and singing in the last high C, between pav and JDF it sounds very similar, both in the same note, and keeping it very well, dont you think pals?....

  • I love this performance, bravissimo JDF. He never fails to amaze me with how easy his high c's are.

  • his smile is so cute ^_^

  • BELLISSIMO JUAN DIEGO ! bellissima voce ! grand uomo dell'opera merci mille fois

Viva Juand Diego e regalaci ancora i "tuoi do di petto" Gracias !

  • The perfect Mozart Rossini tenor! Compliments!

  • La fille du régiment

    o The Observer, Sunday 23 May 2010

.... “As her shy, knobbly-kneed boyfriend Tonio, Juan Diego Flórez returned to wow us with those famous top Cs and pure, unsullied vocal gymnastics. Only Pavarotti, in living memory, could make it all sound so similarly effortless...”

  • BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVOOOO!!

  • Excuse my terrible and shameful ignorance but....from what opera is this...?

  • @pinneappl La fille du régiment by Donizetti

  • @oatboy Thanks...

  • thas right!! good voice juan diego !!!

English:Very good....Florez you is the best voice among mosquitos that I never heard....Congratulation!!!!!

  • how come he has such a luxurious uniform:-)? Such a difference from the production on dvd with nathalie dessay.

    anyway, sings great, as always:-)

  • 1000 veces prefiero a Pavarotti (r.i.p)

  • Yes folks, let's put aside all the waste-of-time comparisons. ANY man who trains his tenor voice to this level is worthy of all the praise that can be given. Whatever Mr. Florez does with the rest of his career, he can be very, very proud of this of DEFINITIVE bel canto performance!

And, I am glad the costumer did a fine job making him look good here, too. (Didn't make him look 12 years old, or like a "cupcake", as in some other YouTube posts of JDF performances!). :-)

  • Florez is without doubt a lirico-leggaro tenor sometimes refered to"Tenore De Grazia"this voice is the highest operatic voice Pavarotti was indeed a lyric tenor the next type of voice then comes spinto, dramatic, helden so just a different voice florez is a wonderful leggaro tenor one of the best in my opinion currently singing

  • I will have the privilege of seeing him and Nathalie Dessay tomorrow! YAY!!! Just wonderful! SO Great!

  • great Diego!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • Bravo, bravissimo Maestro. Bravo.

  • 2x tickets juan diego florez ot Barbican hall London 7th may 2010 on ebay very good seats

  • ah no...:-(

  • The best! El mejor tenor leggiero del mundo. Parabéns! Sucesso sempre! Recife/Brasil

  • Bravo!

  • How wonderful and charming Juan Diego is! I saw a television performance of this and after this aria the audience wouldn't stop applauding -- SO HE SANG IT ALL AGAIN! Marvelous. I will always love Pav the best, but it is wonderful to see handsome Juan Diego come next!

  • I'm curious what performance you saw on television. I was lucky enough to see the premier performance at the MET in 2008. When Florez reached the end of this aria the audience became a thundering mob until he gave an encore. La fille du regiment may not be my favourite opera but that was the best singing I have ever witnessed. (But I have never seen Pavarotti perform... so take that how you will.)

  • Bravo tenore!

  • superbe!!

  • Qué teneraso!

  • Qué tenoraso

  • THATS RIGHT STOP COMPARING TO PAVAROTTI, they are diferent types of TENOR, pavarotti is lyrical, FLORES IS liviano, fast (sorry i don´t know speak very well) PLEASE ONLY ENJOY THIS VERSION, because is IGNORANCE compare diferents types of tenor, BRAVISSIMO PAVAROTTI, BRAVISSIMO FLORES

  • I agree. Pavarotti was a lyrical-spinto while Florez is a leggiero tenor. Their voice types are different and will produce different types of sound.

  • @jhoelmusic bravissimo Boccelli,bravissimo Paul Potts hahahahahahahaha.

  • @jhoelmusic right. e.g. I don't like Pavarotti and I can't help admiring Florez.

  • I actually think Florez sings this better than Pavarotti. Florez's high Cs have more staccato and power than Pavarotti's.

  • Well....that's because Florez is Leggiero tenor and Pavarotti was not. But, for his time, when Pavarotti was singing this aria, people were as impressed as we are impressed by Florez today. Anyway, I still hate Donizetti....hahahaha! He is mocking the tenors. Florez just gives as a hint how this aria should be sang. Well... for those who can. He's unique. I like him more in Lannguir per una bella. Here is just pure technique; there, to Rossini, there is pure love....

  • @djjmmm I like both of them in this aria, but I think they are different. and it depends on everybody´s taste, i don´t like the florez haters:-)))

  • @djjmmm WTF! Pavarotti was a Lyric, Florez is a Leggiero (tenore di grazia). Why are you comparing two different type of tenors. Furthermore, as far as technique is concerned, no one could have ever match Pavarotti.

  • concordo in pieno

  • respect

  • Nice! And yes, stop comparing to Pavarotti, it's ridiculous...

  • Why are all the comments on YouTube opera clips all so nasty? Of course Florez and Pavarotti are not the same voice categories, but since they both sang some of the same roles (ahem, such as Tonio), it is natural to make comparisons.

  • had a delightful holloween night at the War Memorial Opera House San Francisco Opera watching "Juan Diego Florez" as julio/The Daughter of the Regiment. and i should say..he may not be The Late Maestro Pavarotti ..But BOY!! he is really Good. he hit every Cs' like a Butter. with so much Gusto. love him!

  • He is the best we have got today - just enjoy he is bloody fantastic!

  • Maestro Pavarotti was a light lyric tenor but not a tenore leggiero as Florez. Because of his superb technique, Maestro Pavarotti was able to sing in leggiero roles such Tonio. Maestro Florez is supposed to be able to sing in Tonio's role because it is in his fach. Also note that Maestro Pavarotti took on spinto roles after his voice began to darken, and became a ful lyric voice, and again, because of his superb technique, provided many renditions of spinto roles with a lyric flair.

  • Juan Diego Florez is good singer...in his own right ..why compare him with Pavarotti..

  • stonato,brutto !

  • Pavarotti is a lyric tenor, Flores is a light tenor, if you want to check google search on the definition of tenors and access wikipedia, see the classification of the tenors, and some examples of each type of tenor ..! Pavarotti is much better than any tenor today, pity is no longer in this world ..!

  • haha

  • lol, good prediction

  • Florez is just AWESOME!

  • since when Pavarotti is a dramatic tenor? LOLOLOL youtube is so much fun! LOLOL (I laughed sooo hard!)

  • this guy has stolen this opera! and if all tonio's are measured against florez i'm happy. at interview he comes over as a really nice guy. juan, stay that way please.

  • His voice is perfect for this role, and he's exciting to watch as well as listen to. Fantastic.

  • i was in the chorus behind JDF in 2003 as he sang this (not in the production in this video) and I can tell you from very first hand experience that he sings it spectacularly well... and he filled a very large hall with bright, clear sound.

  • wouldn't expect anything less from such a great singer! Is he nice in person also?

  • Just Florez and Pavarotti sing this aria the way I think it should be.

  • hehe Opera is fun :) nice to see , it was emotional and expressive

  • There is no doubt that Pavarotti or many others have sung this better. Also, he is a very leggero tenore; almost a tenorino. If a tenor so leggero doesn't have easy highs, then who has them? It's no merit. That being said, it's a good performance. But it amazes me that a tenor like this is so famous nowadays. In the past, for a light tenor to be so famous, it would take a legato en elegance without peer, like Schipa had. And Florez in that respect is nothing special.

  • Florez is a light lyric or leggiero - Pavarotti was a full lyric or lirico-spinto at best.

  • @Pawelp Not a spinto. Domingo was a lyrico spinto. Pavarotti was a lyric.

  • @Pawelp i think the same, i think the lirico-spinto version of pavarotti is more enjoyable for two reasons, first, Luciano sings it as a canzonetta, and he enjoys and makes the audience enjoy this aria, second, the high C's are not as laser beams as Juan Diego does, anyway, both are magnific, and they deserve a 5 star performance, i still prefer luciano, and i like the villazon style, but he hasn't sung this aria...yet, i think

    cheers!!!

  • @bodiloto I copy the today bulletin of the Opera of Paris, you can check if you want : " Avec La Donna del lago, se transportant dans l’Ecosse de Walter Scott, Rossini inventait le romantisme musical italien.

If you need I translate with pleasure...but if you want to keep your opinion is your choice..

Recomiendo: No siga gastando dinero yendo a La Opera a sufrir ,compre unos periódicos. Salute, amico

  • @JorPove Mio caro amico: Tengo dos criticas a mano: Radio Suiza y New York Times.

I think I have nothing more to explain..es un dialogo de sordos.

Ciao amco mio!

  • That's a good joke, danm90. Pavarotti, a dramatic tenor. What are Del Monaco or Merli then? Basses? Pavarotti is, as Pawelp said, a lyric (with a full-bodied voice). Florez is a leggero. Very, I must add.

  • To clarify, I didn't mean that Pavarotti was rubbish; I realise I came across that way. To answer, Del Monaco and Merli, too are "classed", so to speak, as dramatic tenors. And I do apologise, Flórez is leggiero: I had read the classication incorrectly.

  • Pavarotti is a lyric tenor.

  • hahaha! If your going to talk bulls*** at least get your facts in order. Pavarotti was NOT a dramatic tenor. He was a characteristicly lyric although he sang many roles that were on the heavy side.

  • @danm90

Pavarotti, a dramatic tenor? Hahahahah, Franco Corelli and Mario Del Monaco are the dramatic tenor kings, Pav was a lyric/spinto tenor.

  • Is it the recording or......does this performance sound better than the one in Vienna 2007....?? I like his voice better here.......any comments ? ( actually he's great on any day )

  • I can't understand why people doesn't enjoy these vids without all the problem about who's the best singer, etc etc, come on, they're different singers and they both are good :)))

  • Comment removed

  • awful actor...

  • but an excelent singer!

  • I dont think that it is as good as pavarotti because he doesnt nearly match him in the power of his notes but he sings the high C's without breaks and staccato like they are written

  • Well , Shaunclark strikes again !

"He sings slower than Pavaroti " , is it a race ? Your comment is unfair , pretentious and stupid .

  • He is desgrace to opera singers?! Come on, this is ridiculous and silly. You can say youu don't like him, but disgrace? This singer has huge respect and a full schedule for the next 6 years, hired by the greatest opera houses in the world. Your opinion can't be taken seriously, if you are writing such stupidity.

  • @tehen162 He is one of the finest. The best for this aria.

The one I can't listen to is Alagna. But Florez is superb.

  • @LordHettrick butplease do not touch the maestro pavarotti....

  • @tehen162 just adding but he's known for his high C's and ridiculous range hence why he can do this aria.

hence why he is hired for many things.

  • @corky7090 Yes, and he is known for his perfect coloraturas too, hence he is specialized in Rossini operas.

  • shaunclark:

Ummm...vocal restraint? As far as I am concerned, singing opera isn't about restraining anything, just simply not blowing your cords apart - this he does not do.

He may not be better than Pavarotti, but is an equal match assured when it comes to ability with this aria.

  • florez sings this peice so great. florezs cs are much more in tune and much more effortless than pavarottis were. i have always thought that. he just sounds better at this point in his career.

  • Besides a great voice, what a beautiful

    man. If looks could kill.

    What a hunk..

  • restraint??? interestering. in all my 12 years of vocal training, never have i been taught to "restrain" anything....

  • God's gift to us.

    Deo Gratias

  • PERUVIAN ENERGY.. PERUVIAN SOUL!!!

  • Truly a gift from heaven.

  • Simply breath takingly stunning, what a voice indeed, and those high C's are effortless with a brilliant rich tone as well.

I can't wait till he comes to Australia.

  • Already Florez has become a legendary tenor with a flare for singing that is quite unique. Alfredo Kraus was a very great singer but his voice wasn't as pure as Florez's and he didn't have quite the coloratura technique.

  • I agree with the coloratura (although have you heard Kraus' ecco ridente and il mio tesoro?), but regarding purity, Kraus was even better than Floez who pushes slightly at the top.

  • Oh yes, can't be beat

  • DAMN. He is amazing.

  • flores gives us a different emotion than others great tenors actually; he becomes himself the owner of everything he sings..

his voice can't be compared , he has his own style, in all repertories he sings.Listen to 'la flor de la canela".

  • He and Pavarotti are two bests in this aria!! I never heard better versions than these two.

  • Dear Billy1983yes, I would objectively include in that list a third one: Kraus. Personally, I think Kraus' voice has more armonics and is more "argentea" for he had easier ability to disseminate the voice throught the head. Perhaps you would enjoy the performance at the Paris Opera when he was 59, also posted in YouTuve. You tell me! Best!

  • Absolutely the best. No one does this song better.

  • just tree words, for Diego

    you are the BEST

  • ok I thing we've found the tenor of the 1996-2020 erA

  • che pura voce!mi piace suo timbro.

  • goodness me.....this performance was quite incredible, what an upper register!!!!! normally after a while of high tessiture you get tired and it becomes more forced and strained but this guy just keeps on flinging up to that C with such ease every time!! Incredible!!!!!

  • I performed once in a choir accompanying Boccelly and I heard him singing without microphone in a dressing room.... He does not have a voice of an operatic singer..... try to listen to him singinga an aria and then another "real" tenor..... I did that once to a friend odf mine with Bocelli singing Ofigli miei from Macbeth and after him immedieately Carreras singing the same aria.... Difference as heaven and the earth in favor of carreras...... so sorry for all fans of Bocelli.....

  • Beautiful singing, very good technique but the leggiero voice doesn't cut it even in this role. If Florez were a light lyric tenor (as Pavarotti in his youth), it would have been sensational.
