  • Hi, I `ve tried to do this split for almost a year without any progression, I couldn`t understand why, because my hamstrings are really well streched. But after your words abour fear, I suddenly did it! It was my fear, which didn`t let me do the split.

  • I used to be really flexible when I was younger, like 8-11 years old. Now I'm fifteen and I tried these stretches. I could not BELIEVE it!! In less than 10 minutes I was less than an inch off the ground when the day before I could only be about 10 inches.

  • dcllcd82997 i did gymnastics a couple years ago...just take time to stretch everyday. If your watching tv go on the ground and stretch while your watching. Stretching is the only answer there is no magic thing to do :). I quit and i havnt stretched ever since and i cant do my splits andmore or anything. Noe you see how important it is to stretch :). i am starting cheer next year so i just finished riding my bike, running, doing the ilimptical, and i just did zumba(the exersice vid) :)

  • @dcllcd82997 It really is a matter of persistence.Simply put,the secret to instant splits is really no secret at all.If you can get into the splits after doing these stretches justonce, then something in your life has allowed you to maintain the flexibility that a lot of people don't maintain.For instance,if you used to dance a few years ago and stopped then it may not come as a surprise that you got it on the first try.Just don't quit, and DON'T force it.You'll get there in time.

  • That's just a normal Gymnastics splits. We do the same warm ups for splits. Except we don't bring our foot towards our bum :) And we point our toes-of course ;)

    Keeping the hips square is important. But also keeping your hands FLAT is also important, there was a girl who didn't have her fingers flat and she dislocated her thumb.

  • I would have been inclined to finish that exercice with a full box split ie facing directly forward towards the camera stretched out on the floor. Not everybody likes to split his symphatic ligament/ her , but it is the fulfillment of the split exercices.

    You do it faultlessly any way!

  • fyi my camp friend was told me that if ur shoulder blades are not coming of the floor, it will not do anything at all. even if it burns. it helped. i think her doctor told her...

  • I''m into Chinese Martial Arts & need more flexibility so yoga is an obvious choice. In meditation, Chinese Wushu {Qigong} refers to Small Circulation or Micro Cosmic Orbit. It also teaches about energy centers (dan tiens) with acupuncture names; what yoga refers to as chakras if I'm not mistaken. Do you know anything about those? If so please post a video!

  • I'm got down all the way to the floor yesterday, it was really painful bit i got better. But then the today when i warmed up, stretched and tried again i was back to square one. I'm about an inch off the floor, its so frustrating because i really wanna get it but i can't! Any help pleasee??

  • Stretching daily helps. Then so, everything becomes easier. And then you can continue to grow more in all the different yoga stretches.

  • I love yoga. When I am looking for ideas and tips about postures, I often come to your videos on you tube and mostly get some good ideas or suggestions or things to try. So those are really useful. At the same time watching your video gives me all kind of sensuous thought, thoughts of things I would just love to do to you in bed.

  • @scarekr0 I think twice a day, is alright. Just remember to breathe and to listen to your body. It will let you know if you are pushing yourself too much.

  • @vicky05in yes you always have to warm up before stretching. in the beginning of the video she saysto do thr sun salutation a few times to warm up. she has a few videos on it. and it really does warm you up.

  • @vicky05in It depends on you, and you knowing your body. You will begin to feel the difference as you continue to do the stretches. Your body will tell you when.

  • @zurabok it is though. what is a work out... something that works your muscles. if you have actually done loga. you do feel it in your muscles and it tones and stretches them. if that isnt a work out i dont know what a work out is.

  • It's all in your mind! When she gets into one position and starts talking very calmly and all I want is for her to change position... lol but everyday I get a little bit further, I'll get there someday! I'm just a few inches away, but I can't stay there for too long; probably it is fear holding me back, because I've already injured myself doing this once; but I guess I wasn't doing it the right way, because only with this video I learned to square the hips.

  • Unfortunately dashama is technically incorrect to say that anyone can do the splits if they practice enough. The reality is that we all have different bone shapes and lengths and joint structures. These differences mean that some people will never be able do this posture - even with all the muscles removed it would still be impossible. This same reality applies to many other postures - for more info see the clip "Yoga anatomy with Paul Griiley"

    The stretch in my front leg hurts more when I keep my foot as you do (toes up). Is it wrong to make it "point" like you did with your back foot at 4:43 in your video ? (sorry for my english.)

  • It's not wrong to point your toe here:) If you need to, do that, and then work your way up to the flexed foot version to stretch your calves.

  • Best thing to do is rest until the pain is gone and start stretch again but ease up if there's any pain.

  • Please do not push your body beyond its means. You need to practice regularly before you are ready to go into full splits. Trying to do this right out the gate can result in a serious injury. "Stretch more often and breath into it" like Dashama says in the video. Good luck. You'll get it in no time :)

  • I found this useful....I've been trying to do the splits for the last two months...I've made some progress using Kurz's book Stretching Scientifically. I nearly made the "cheerleader splits" even though I'm a guy, but Dashama's split is the one I want to achieve...hopefully with patience I will be able to achieve it. Thanks for the vid Dashama.

  • Well martial arts require great flexibility and the legs need to be practiced as well. I do Fencing mainly and lunging is very common. But apart from that Yoga is very helpful, it keeps you calm and helps you stretch. Obviously one needs to be patient.

  • Hi Dashama, I am not flexible at all and old. Where do I start? I want to do full splits but can only get to about 90 maybe 100 degrees. My hips hurt and I have bad knees. Please suggest help and where to start.
