You've probably heard these ladies without even knowing, the Chanters were two of the busiest backing singers in the London session scene in the early 70s. Cool to hear a solo (well, duo) spotlight for them like this. (They also wrote "Star" for Kiki Dee.)
I saw TOTP last night and for the life of me I can't remember these two at all, mind you I was only 7. The blond one's got a f'kin awesome voice, can't imagine why I've not seen her elsewhere. She's well fit..that outfit is total w*nking material...without sounding too crude about it
@markmywords312 I think you just sounded too crude!! Great voices. They should have had bigger chart hits with those voices. Although, no doubt they had a lucrative contract with the session work they were doing.
@markmywords312 If you like the blonde (Doreen Chanter), look for Roxy Music videos from the mid 70s. She sings backing vocals on "Love Is The Drug" as well as a few other songs by both Roxy Music as well as songs by Bryan Ferry. The last TOTP broadcast on BBC4 featured "The Price Of Love" by Ferry and it's her voice you hear in the background, though you don't see her on the video.
Love this video and sorry I had forgotten the version and just how good Doreen and Irene Chanter were. Looking back, they really deserved to make the big time. Hope they are both well and thanx for the memory.
Thank you for the Information. Unfortunately i cant BBC 'cause i'm from Germany. Some old TOTP shows are shown sometimes on Special channels here in Germany. That was when i See this amazing song. I'm sitting here and repeat the Song on Youtube on and on.
This is brilliant !! It was on BBC4 Top of the Pops repeat last week (27/07/11) as the closing music... which means that this clip is due to be shown soon as i think they are showing the old programmes in the same order. keep an eye out x
Today I have seen this video on TV and thought: I know this blonde woman.
She was background Vocal at Meat Loaf, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, John Cale, Ronnie Wood, Phil Manzanera, Bryan Ferry, Stomu Yamashta, Whitesnake, Bernie Marsden, Roger Waters, John Entwistle, David Coverdale, Chris Farlowe, Keith Emerson, Rod Stewart, Chris Rea, and many more. I've very many records, where she sings background. Thanks for upload - great!
This song is what Youtube is really good at . . . bringing back happy memories and really great music that we'd never find anywhere else. I remember going out to buy the '45 for my dad's jukebox. It got played to death. Many thanks for the upload
@ColumRogers . . . Many folks believe that "disco" music developed from Motown and Northern Soul. There's loads of pages on the web about it. Try listening to tracks like "Right Back Where We Started From" by Maxine Nightingale, or stuff by Jimmy James and the Vagabonds for example
OMG !! remember hearing this in a record shop in dunstable, happy days great song great singers not so great dancing tho lol. can anyone work out the lyrics for me please ?

There's a certain live Roxy Music bootleg that Doreen can be heard quite clearly on, to say the least. Wild vocals on the Thrill of It All etc......

A very under-rated 70s gem. The dark-haired one looks like Beryl Palmer from 80s Aussie soap Sons and Daughters
