Second of all i see u like to wrap ur thumb around while playing as did stevie. i do too and have relatively big hands but cant seem to do so on my own 12 string ( which is quite cheap). so ultimately im wondering what the necks are like on ur guild??
aside from writing something about how good your playing is i would just like to point out that you have a very sexy guild 12 string my man, keep her safe
Hey! I believe I was tuned down two or three steps. I usually tune this twelve string to D or C# as I I've heard using 0.012 gauge strings on a 12-string tuned to E could warp the neck (not sure if it would, but not sure I want to find out :-)
damn my friend - you have done it! I remember watching that show back in 1990 and being torn between practicing more or burning my guitars and quitting..... i did the former, but never tried this because its so intimidating - but u did it - fine job and keep it up - u should be proud of urself! !!!!
did you say ur tuned to C#? I've pickup up most the song, but I think some of my rhythm sections are a bit off. It would immensely helpful if you posted even the same video but in slower tempo. its such a quick song its hard to pick up the nuances.
Great vid btw. not only fun to watch but much more helpful than the original vid to those trying to learn it. the other one has too many camera angles.
If I'm looking at the right chord, I play at the 7th fret on the low E string almost continuously while playing at the 9th fret on the D string, then at the 7th fret on the same string, then back to 9th string. Then I slide from 6th on the D-string and 7th on the G string to 7th and 8th on the same respective strings. Remember, the low E string is played the whole time (you might hear it as the base note in the video). I'm not sure this make sense......
thats damn good man. i mean shit, sittin around with some friends drinkin some cold ones, you bust that out man your friends will be impressed. i have the srv unplugged trio video and you did really well.
That MTV unplugged version of "Testify" is one of my favorite SRV performances ever. Hardly anyone else played the acoustic guitar like Stevie... but you did it really good. :) Great job! 5*
but not so har actually first you tune all the normal string like you normally would then you tune those samall strings to the same but on octave higher
Did you use a tab? if so can you tell me where you got it. Or did you figure it out by listening to is repeatedly? I'm kinda tired of doing that. I'm basically looking for the lazy way out.
hate to put a dampener on the tone of the comments but lets be realistic he has some srv licks down but it lacks the conviction and accuracy big time, but still nice effort, just wanted a bit of balance to the over enthusiastic remarks
That really is quite impressive. Just one comment and no, its not about the playing.....Your legs, you seem to have no hairs on them, not that Im a perv but this to me would indicate that your about 12! Please tell me your not cos if you are Im quitting the guitar right now!
That is one of the funnier comments I've read in quite some time! No need for you to quit playing - I am a lot older than 12 and have pretty hairy legs (low res camera + light leg hair = humorous comments from viewers and a guarantee that next time I'll wear pants)
Wow dude.. i clicked on this video expecting something much different.. That was impressive.. Im not a fan of 99% of SRV coveres hes too unique but that was a 10/10.
Thanks! I learned it by listening to it, but I used a Boss RC20XL looper to slow down the fastest parts (in pitch) as I could not tell exactly what he was playing at normal speed. I am not sure if anyone ever posted tabs for the unplugged version.
I usually keep this guitar at C# or D with 12 gauge strings mainly as it is easier for me to sing (not that I sing well :-) As I mentioned in an earlier reply, SRV had his tuned at Eb, but I don't know what gauge strings he used....I would ot be surprised if they were quite heavy (to whatever extent a 12 string guitar can candle heavy gauge strings).
Thanks for the kind words! I usually keep this guitar (Guild F412 Blonde) tuned to C#, although I might have been somewhere between C# and D on this video. The main reason for this is that my voice works better when tuned this low.
I currently use D'Addario EJ39 0.012 gauge strings, which gives me roughly the same tension as the 0.010 gauge strings that came with the guitar when tuned to E.

I currently use D'Addario EJ39 0.012 gauge strings, which gives me roughly the same tension as the 0.010 gauge strings that came with the guitar when tuned to E. I know SRV had his guitar tuned to Eb, but I have no idea what size strings he used. Probably something ridiculous :-) I have heard, though, that 12 string guitars should not be strung with really heavy gauge strings when tuned normally in E as the tension can ruin the neck. Not sure if it is true, though.
