@bakkahentai2600 The Final Fantasy games have always been ahead of their time when it comes to gameplay and animation, it just became more obvious when FFVII was released with 3D graphics rather than 2D.

The story might be cheesy but in my opinion that's what made it so appealing. It took an old, much-overused concept and presented it in a whole new way.  Sephiroth is considered to be one of the greatest video game villains ever created, Final Fantasy and otherwise.
