It's difficult to solve this rhytm listening to darbuka because its very fast, contains 16th notes and extra triplets . There's a drum version here: freedrumlessons . com/drum-lessons/9-8-beats
It's not the same with this but it'll help you understand.
this is known as "aksak ölçü" which can be translated as "crippled scale"... something special to turkish music and sometimes gets impossible for traditional european musicians to follow or play
what rhythm was played on the darbuka? is it cifteteli?

thay say the turks heart beats in 9/8

kennroxx 1 year ago
@HoLyGuN1907 The rhythm can be roughly divided into [4/8] + [5/8]. Try keeping count: 1,2,3,4; 1,2,3,4,5; Truly this is enchanting music.

The rock band Genesis has a song called "Suppers Ready"
There is a subsection of that song called "Apocalypse in 9/8" that uses this time signature.
That's the only example I can think of outside of middle eastern and Indian music.

@stuffedsonic
All of the balkanic music has many 9/8 reccurent time signatures.
Well i guess that's southern influence as well x)
