Dogs are often used to sort cattle. Our dog is te smartest dog I've ever known. You point at one steer and she'll separate it from the rest. For some reason though my grandfather uses holstien steers for beef instead of angus (I don't know why. They take longer and they eat more but they do get a few hundred pounds bigger)
Looking at the video, I'd say that the cattle were not being "hurt" or seriously stressed. A principle in working cattle (or other stock, for that matter) is to move them as quietly as possible, never to lose your temper and to work with the animal's innate behavior. These were beef cattle that had had little handling and were therefore much more rangy than cattle hand raised like many dairy cattle. Though it would not make very good film, I would have only lightly pressed them.
I wish to inform you of what I call a dirty job. Recently I was employed to fight Beatrix Kiddo. This is an extremely dirty job because she is always covered in blood because she fights ninjas. So get a Han kuchi Samuri sword and fight Beatrix Kiddo yo.
A dog isn't suitable for dairy cattle because they cause the cows to run, which is harmful to their udders. Although those in the video are steers so maybe dogs are too small perhaps? Not sure. I know dogs are better used for herding sheep though
Hey! I'm from Norway. Damn, I want to go to the States, maybe to Kansas or something, for about 1 year and work on a farm or something like that. Just to do something else for a while. And I are really curious on the American culture. I have never been there. So just to BE on American ground is a dream for me!
Anyone know who/what I can contact for working on a farm in the USA for about a year, and experience the country at the same time? Nothing to do with school.
I work on a farm/ranch and we work from around 5 A.M to about midnight depending on what we're doing. We work cattle all day and drive tractor in the morning and night when its cool. It gets around 100 degrees here in kansas
Well, that's cool! There are lots of non-profit organizations associated with the large (public and private) universities that help international students to find work, internships, etc. I'd contact a university DIRECTLY, that way you know it's all legitimate. So keep that in mind. And your English is very good, don't worry. Good luck.
Google custom combining jobs in the midwest. They typically travel from texas, to north dakota and into canada months out of the year, harvesting the crops. Decent pay, all expenses paid and you get to see the entire midwest and upper plains.

It sure is funny when Walt said to Mike " Thank you, Dave," and then he replied, " Call me Mike." What's with the "in" and the "by"?
It's also sure is dirty.
