@Iggy82xl the 5.56 is designed to fragment on impact, not penetrate. when the 5.45mm round penetrates it tumbles(internal organs have the tendency to move with the shockwave and move out of the way of a tumbling bullet inside the body, while when a 5.56 round fragments there are so many wounds that you could be shot in the operating room and still not be saved it just wouldnt kill immediately). plus the 5.45 has a bigger bullet and a smaller cartridge, making it have less range and accuracy.
