Very nice tank! You must really know your fish cause everyone I know says they need substrateless tanks. - whered you get that massive peice of driftwood
cool tank, i just setup my first large tank which is also a 110 gal roughly, it has all live plants mangrove roots as wood, gravel, no co2 injection or lacerite or whatever it is, i will be using a fertilizer to maintain the plants and my lighting is 2 ho t5 globes, i am using neons to cycle it then i will be adding discus + brislenoses and corys. any tips would be goood, have alook at my latest vid i will be adding shortly
The fish are beautiful i could never keep them i hear its VERY hard. I do keep angelfish though and they're similar only the discus are more impressive and more tropical looking. They seem to get along well. I love parrot fish ive always kept those. Theyre personalities are awesome. Mine knows what i look like it runs from everyone but me when i come up to the tank. Well thanks for the advice i think i may get a discuss or two :D
actually i had some discus and they arent as hard as you think. Sadly my cousin put some goldfish with my discus while i was gone in new york which killed them... but at least one survived. I still have the last survivor, but dont know any stores that sells discus around in new york :-/ they had it in regular petstores back in ohio... but not here
I have a 110 gallon tank i have to get the filter, hood, lights and build a stand for it. Ive been looking around for examples of tanks the same size and so far this one is the most good looking one. How much do you think it cost you for the fish. And how much for the rocks and stuff? I want to put drift wood in mine but i hear it makes the water brown?
Thanks! Yes, drift wood can stain the water brown with tannis, you should soak the wood outside the tank first (I used my bath tub) till that stops happening (change the water twice a day). Some good driftwood (Malaysian and African) doesn't stain the water, you can get this at a good aquarium store, but it is pricey. My wood is just a normal piece of driftwood from a local fish store, it is kinda soft and floats (it is bolted to a rock now), it cost $30 (very cheap for the size).
The stone was left over from my pond construction (I had bought 4.5 tons of it), the stone is not the best for discus tanks since it raises the pH/KH slightly, but so far the fish have been fine. The corys like having it to hide in. Java fern and Temple were grown in another tank, the vals are new. Total cost for if you bought those plants new is probably under $30. The fish are expensive, $20-$40 each for the smaller ones, bigger ones are $60-$200 each depending on size/store/etc.
I like your discus aquarium might copy it , very nice

@Japi42 Actually, staining the water brown is good for them. They prefer acidic water.

@Yonggbaek Try putting the driftwood in a dishwasher, no soap, just hot water. Run it 2-3 times. Works great!
