these are kuruma shrimp, or peneaus japonicus . They are considered the best shrimp in the world for susi. In the 90s the price for live kuruma in japan was well over 100 us dollars, but now it has fallen. I have a aquaculture farm in Greece and i grow these shrimp, that is how i know this stuff. The ones in this vid were very high quality.

I don't think eating animals is wrong nor do I think killing them for food is wrong but for myself I just can't participate in that after knowing how they are killed. Really there's not a magic button on them that turns them into a new york steak with no pain but...

@amar381 that's so wrong that you think fish are tortured, because our "food" goes through much worse pain. cows have their throats slit while they're still alive. pigs have to hang upside down while they bleed out. they're often still alive when they get to the scalding tank. we beat our animals and keep them in filthy pens.

@amar381 What is the difference between being killed with a chef's blade and being killed by a bite? Actually, prawns are normally killed by plopping them into boiling water. @The72koenig It's the way that they're killed that makes us mad. There's perfectly humane ways to kill animals, and you still get to keep the freshness and good parts, like the eyes. A humane way to kill a fish is hit it as hard as you can on the head: It hurts a bit, but they die instantly afterwards. Sure, we know that food doesn't just magically appear in our grocery store, but we do know that there are much better ways of killing it.

Rather than waste your energy trying to stop people from eating meat, which if it DOES ever happen will take a very long time, why not try changing the methods in which animals are killed. THe fact of the matter is you not eating meat isnt going to stop someone else, and there's too much money going into it for companies to stop either. But we CAN force them to find more humane methods in which they go about doing it. Change what you can now.
