  • When I first heard this, I went crazy. I still think they were brilliant. Love that sound !

  • I knew Jeff Skunk Baxter and Michael McDonald were originally in Steely Dan I saw Skunk on Bongos but is that a clean shaved Micghael McDonald on the keyboard at one point?

  • i wore the HELL outta this song on an LP.

  • the lyric is "and you love a little wild one..." NOT " a little wide one..."

  • Great tune. This song reminds of me the movie "Mask".

  • I like it very much. It's very good. From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

  • fantastic lyrics

  • My favorite Steely Dan album is Aja......

  • Best vocals in history. However, I'm a little confused. Doesn't Fagen do the lead vocals? I see him with the keyboards in the back. Is so, who's the guy singing in the front?

  • @wolffpakk That's David Palmer - Donald Fagan was too shy to sing up front

  • This song is awesome!

  • Your Dad would be proud of you.

  • Too bad this is in 240.

  • LOL OMG LOVE A LITTLE WIDE ONE... LOVE THAT PART.IN THE LYRICS HERE

    ""

  • Gran banda y excelente tema. Genial!!!

  • great performance, thank you very much!!

  • I was at this show.

  • David Palmer in the video, Donald Fagen singing....wow, thats just great...

  • did he ever get his teeth fixed?

  • @bearing44 Now that's what I call a pair of snaggle teeth!!!!

  • sorry about your dad. I lost mine in 2002, he was 72 Korean war Seargent First class in intelligence, No one messes around with the united states military

  • I absolutely <3 <3 the acid music of the 70's.

  • The message here is DEATH PENALTY NOW and LOCK 'EM UP and throw away the key.

  • Who the hell clicked dislike! STAB THEM WITH FIRE!!!!!

  • @Lordoffail Fire 'til they are done in

  • Magic, fantastic music.

I can positively say that nowadays there is not good [real] music been made like then.

  • in my opinion the greatest guitar solo ever AND HES NOT EVEN LOOKING AT THE DAMN GUITAR!!!!

  • real musicians, real talent. So earthy, I love it.

  • wow Didnt know Skunk Baxter was a percusionist as well as a guitarist

  • i miss real music!!!! this is great!!! screw this new shit!!! so im gonna play it again and again!!

  • Wife can be a big bitch but I am here 19 years later. In other words I can't break my cycle or rut...."back jack and do it again". The first verse reminds me of a guy who has been in prison so many times yet when he hits the street he's back to his old habits. This song is telling the truth about millions of us.

  • I get goosebumps listening to this. This is what you call real music, was a teenager when it hit the charts. Early 70's, bell bottoms, long hair, afro's and muscle cars. Who can forget the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach I, the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, and the 1971 Pontiac Lemans just to name a few. Those good old days will forever live on!!!!

  • Doing It Again! Awsome!

  • MY Father died in 1980 when I was an infant I never new him. I learned one of his fav bands was steely dan. Now I have a chance to know him, great music.

  • @resinmage ...Wow...quite a moving message. I hope you don't mind me saying "I'll pray for you both". I mean that in the best way possible.

I love Stealy Dan too ... especially this song!

Peace to you and your dad!

  • @resinmage , my eldest daughter, now 21, was named after their album "AJA" where they toured the original continent from which life began...Africa. Aja has several meanings, but in old African dialect it meant "prince or princess." But it stands for the old continent of ancient Africa, thus the album name. It means "goat" in Hindu....lol. I was just a teenager when they sunk into my head and they have been there ever since.

  • @resinmage oh wow, that's cool.

  • @resinmage He had good taste.

  • @resinmage YOUR DAD HAD A GR8 EAR FOR MUSIC. :)

  • @resinmage please make sure your kids listen to the dan. It would make your dad happy

  • @MARLEYFANcbr

    I heard Steely Dan when I was 6 and I 'm 45 now !

    Steely Dan rules !

  • @resinmage He had good taste!

  • @resinmage That's KooooooL brother!

  • @resinmage im with ya on this man, my father died when i was young and he to liked the dan. bless you and take care my friend

  • Remember buying the album like it was yesterday. Played it non stop on my turntable and tortured the neighbours lol Fabulous Stuff.

  • @Thereisonlythemoment those were the days when you waited for a record to come out & then played it over & over trying to figure out the meaning & drove your parents nuts playing the same song all day. There was something about anticipating for albums, now everyone can just click a button & have their music in an instant. I'm not complaining but it's not the same. There's too much to choose from now. I miss the vinyl days.

  • @tonlo92 Ah, dude.. if you still listened to new music you would still have to wait for albums to come out like everyone else. Sometimes I wish I grew up in the 60's too, but I don't see how anything's worse. I really like not having to pay for my music.. The internet lets anyone share their creativity.

  • @kurtismiller9 I'm not a dude, but now songs get leaked, or they appear 1st on the internet before they are in stores. My kids get songs like that all the time. It is more instant & although I like the convenience it's not the same.

  • @tonlo92 Alright whatever, just trying to look on the bright side.

  • you kiss obamas lipppssssssssss, dont go there steely dan was a real down too earth group!(old school),take it how you want tooooo?

  • I wish I could go to whatever happy place that guitar player is during his solo

  • @TheSpazModic the place is called weed ;)

  • they just defiled this video with a re-elect obama popup ad

  • this song is an instant rush to me- incredible.

  • Ageless imo. I like how they were able to cohesively fuse what sounds like an african beat with jazz and indian elements. It had a good rhythm and feel and was very atmospheric sounding. I'm more of a hard rock and heavy rock/metal fan, but songs like this kicked ass.

  • steely dan rocks and im only nine

  • @heyguesswhat1 what are you a canadien hater

  • What magic this is. They are brilliant.

  • @Happysundaze They were a great band - saw them in 74 in Pittsburgh --playing with the Beach Boys! Unbelievable

  • kill the person who made the video response

  • LONG LIVE DENNY AND LONG LIVE SKUNK. AS THEY BOTH SAY, LONG LIVE THE CONFEDERACY

  • This better than the crap in music today, way better!

  • 4:00 i didn't know a guitar could make a sound like that one, man...

  • so nice.

  • That was a long and quiet guitar solo. Almost sounded like keys. Wait a min...

  • this brings me back to the 70's even though i never lived in the 70's

  • @FattMattwithaHatt love comments like yours thks, and still 42 years later there a hit... i wonder if the 50 cents and company will be tagged for there musical talents in 42 years NOPE

  • @Bee8724 your to modest

  • dude at 3:10 looks like jim morrison in his final days in the doors lol

  • High school daze 1973... My girlfriend and I fell for the same guy in our Freshman year (he was Sophomore), and we would listen to this song together over and over... We never fell out over this guy. That's the kind of innocence and purity that youth possesses and unfortunately fades with age.

  • Simply FANTASTIC! How much I enjoy this song.

  • Awesomeness!

  • Cut off your hair, man!!!!

  • Criticised for being too slick at the time they may have been ahead of their time...slickness like this came to dominate later on didn't it?

  • I don't need marijuana. Listening to Steely Dan, Jimi Hendrix, etc., they are my drug of choice.

  • Real music this is being played on five live right now.

  • No one here probably knows what a steely dan actually is. Hehe.

  • @SuperWarganism The band is named after a dildo.

  • This the first vinyl album that I actually wore out, I played it so much.

    Phenomenally good stuff.

  • this one is going in the playlist called "DAN"

  • It really is one of the greatest rock guitar solos of all time.

  • "like"

  • It is so refreshing to hear young people digging this great rock from almost 40 years ago! There is hope for the future! I have thought the same thing that "celestialcombustion" says: I think the music industry picks photogenic people, models probably, and teaches them how to sing and gives them words to mouth. There are a few exceptions but there are few monster musicians like Hendrix, Morrison, Beatles, Stones, and the Dead on the charts these days. Glad the good stuff is still being enjoyed!

  • I was listening to a radio show (RadioBam) that said rap is killing off rock music

YOU HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD OF STEELY DAN YOU MOTHERFUCKER

  • This was 1 of the first songs I played at the bar last weekend. After like 8 (noise) songs mostly which were mostly rap (sht). I walked away from the jukebox and a beautidul woman came up to me, probly in her late 30S and said thanks for being one of the good ones ( I take it she must of ment that Im a cool guy for liking real music and not sellin out to the moral majoritys choice of music liike most other guys around my age).

  • Music as it has always been, organized and soulful. never forget this melody, still whistling it 35 years later'

  • youtube.com/watch?v=ZH8pY3C0skM

  • This video is bit rediculous. You have got David Palmer singing lead on the vid and Donald Fagan singing on the soundtrack.

  • who is the lead vocalist here please

  • Im 15 and I seriously would have no life without, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin, Fleet wood Mac, Cream etc. Gosh this stuff is 'THE MUSIC'

  • Ole boy looks as ONE with his guitar don't he!!

  • 36 yankees couldn't understand Steely

  • LONG LIVE THE DAN

  • AGAIN AFTER YEARS WITH OKSANA...

  • LOL ... EVERY time i watch a music "video" on youtube, there's ALWAYS someone claiming to be 13 years old, and appearing to seek approval of some kind...

you're NOT 13, you are most likely over-the-hill, and over weight

  • Laura Nyro was recently named a 2012 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Donald Fagan credited Laura as one of his musical influences.

  • Para que decirles que en los 70's y 80's existia aqui en Ciudad de Panamá una emisora llamada Stereo Panama y sus dos canales se sintonizaba en los 106.7 era tremenda emisora.

  • 36 Jacks were not man enough to do it again.

  • The man needs someone to tie him down and hack that steel wool off of his head but the song is pretty great

  • relax it was just another classic sound from the time muscians had a possibility to influence the outcome of what they produced ...

  • Gahh, can't get enough of it... 13 years old and here I am, complaining about the crap on the radio these days. Because these days, it's not really about the music anymore. It's about the image, the hair and the body, the auto-tune, the weak beats. I love you Steely, Zep, Doors, Stones... all that good stuff.

  • @celestialcombustion quite yo bitchin

  • Comment removed

  • @celestialcombustion you are officially cool kid. death to radio

  • @celestialcombustion Dude...tell you parents they have done a good job (as far as turning towards good music). Keep listening to the likes of Steely dan, Led Zep, and maybe - if you have time - The dixie dregs...

  • @celestialcombustion Hey, nothing bad about complaining about the shite on the radio, i do it at least once day. But don't worry, you aren't the only person in this generation who listens to good music, and i'm glad to see that.

  • @celestialcombustion I'm from your generation also and sometimes I feel like an middle-aged man in a teenage girl's body. :P

  • @Honeydew7396 sometimes i am in a teenage girls body.itt does feel good.

  • @celestialcombustion you are getting off to one good start in your musical appreciation. Music like that will never date, compared to the stuff that a lot of other people your age listen to and buy. You rock! :)

  • @celestialcombustion hasn't pop music always been about image? dressing the past up as a glorious and forgotten era where everything was great in contrast to the horrible world of today is such a moronic thing to write about, especially when you are 13.

  • @celestialcombustion Gahh, too many people complaining about todays generation of music.

  • @celestialcombustion I was 17 back in 1973 when this came out in the Summer. I lived this music and wish every day i was BACK in the 60s and 70s. Everything today is Rap, and Studio produced garbage.

  • @celestialcombustion Image has always been massively important in popular music, Morrisons tight leather pants Plants golden "mane" and Jaggers sexual dancing, sure the music was better than what gets played on the radio but that doesnt mean all music is shit these days, and no one gives a fuck your 13

  • @celestialcombustion age doesn't matter, good music is good music and bad music is bad music. Everyone is posting these stupid comments that all start with their age and end it the implication that age has something to do with musical taste, listen to what you listen to and don't worry about age, you have good taste in music clearly but don't worry about age because this music is timeless.

  • @celestialcombustion Keep doin what you're doin, bud.

  • @celestialcombustion music then was for the music. up until the 90s music was music and money was on the side. after 2000 music went into a nosedive into the nasty shit we have today which is all for money, most singers and bands don't give a shit about their songs anymore just how many copies will sell.

  • @celestialcombustion u are one cool kid.....listen to RUSH! also checkout an amazing prog song by FM featuring Nash the Slash it's called PHASORS ON STUN!!!! brilliant song, ahead of it's time, they were from Toronto.

  • Acid will eat away your brain. Try listening without it, and give your brain a chance to mend, and enjoy a healthy mind as God gave to you at your birth. Peace

  • I love his head flick!

  • wow.... honestly. one of the greatest moments of music ever... lol...

  • This is one the top songs ever recorded. After all these years i finally saw Steely Dan live,,,wow,,,they were amazing. My only disappointment wasthat i didnt get to hear this song live. They opened the show with Aja..it sounded so good it gave me goose bumps. I will not miss another one of their shows when they come back around.

  • Does anyone know what the unusual instrument is in the into? It sounds like a simple oral instrument. Or, am I hearing an illusion created by the maracas and the bongos?

  • This won't play for some goddamn reason. Each time I come back to this video it won't load. In fact most of the videos I've been clicking on won't load, except the Vevo videos.

  • OMG all my life I thought this song was Santana!!!! WTF????

  • @withfootnotes You may be a little retarded.HAHAHHA!

  • @jussaguy1 YUP!

  • Interesting top comments...

  • @mezzyjezze hmmm now it's an interesting top comment

  • Groovy, fab,& 70's!!

  • grande pezzo!!!

  • @cormorano74

    si, è vero!!!!

  • Few know Denny Diaz, the only player in the history of the Band who could play the original solo for Bodhisattva. Same with Clarence White from the Byrds. I started Playing on a plastic Mickey Mouse guitar, when a guitar player was either denigrated as a Beatnick or a Cowboy. I am stunned that now Guitars are now Fashion accessories, and being in a band is like having a driver's license, G_D BLESS MUSIC !!!!!

  • I love that guitar solo

  • @slummike

  • I bought "Can't buy a Thrill" LP right when this single hit..."Reelin' in the Years' and this song...I remember seeing them on Midnight Special and thinking these guys can play and the are a motly looking bunch...I was 15 at the time and a soph in High School....Recorded LP to Cassette and home, played cassette of this LP in my car. I had the only car casstte player, all my friends had 8 trac, the fools wanted to borrow my tape and I said you can't play it and you "Can't Buy a Thrill"!!!

  • I too hear magic. This song truly evokes a spiritual reaction in the mind and body. However, I don't need drugs to get the full effect of this beautiful song!!!

  • @BillyJenerealname How do you know that what you feel is the "full effect"?, dont talk about what u dont know :D you just are satisfied with your reaction. Trust me, there is more.

  • Who's the cat "singing" lead vocals? I thought Donald Fagan had this one.

  • @UMAMIMAMU He did, Donald's on the record to be sure, David Palmer sang the vocal on Midnight Special, why, I don't know....

  • Comment removed

  • I love watching him groove when he's not singing!

  • Who wrote the subtitile lyrics? They obviously did not listen completley!!

  • @saxman8404 careful u can get hearing aids from that

  • ESTE ES EL SONIDO LOCAL DE CHEYR'S STUDIO!

    ESKISITA ROLAAAAAAA!!!

  • Guitar hero brought me here :)

  • @HabboShoebox Awesome!!!!

  • Perfection at it's finest.

  • I thought this was a Santana song until I looked it up

  • @jwaffe you're a fucking idiot!

  • @2112Metal aside from the lead singer, they have a lot in common

  • @2112Metal Mostly the drums, some of the chords; compare it to oye como va; I like this song better than that one, though.

  • @jwaffe: Do It Again was pretty different from most of Steely Dan's later hits.

  • great song

  • What is going on here, I see Donald Fagan and the rest of Steely Dan singing this song, the guy with the long red hair looks like he lip-synching. What's up!?

  • @9johnnies This is the video from the 1973 Midnight Special overdubbed with the studio version of this track. This is just the live video, not the live music. If you're looking for the live version from the video, just look up Steely Dan- Do It Again Midnight Special 1973.

    Peace

  • thumbs up if jjonathanhart sent you here :)

  • @Sakuya727 Thumbs up if knowing what good music is sent you here

  • @MetalGuy5150 Lol, well I kinda put that because my friend (jjonathanhart) makes cool creative spoof videos of songs and doesn't have as many views as he'd like. So I thought people would check his videos out.

  • @MetalGuy5150 He has very, very little views (like 20 per video). But he's really creative.

  • @Sakuya727 Aaah I see

  • I love Steely Dan, but this kind of sucks because the sound and images don't match.

  • one of the great maryjane songs of the early 70's. not that i ever smoked, but i'm just saying. ok.... but i honestly never inhaled. well, maybe once but i was in college and some chick seduced me.

  • Who is the red head singing lead?

  • @msknighttime: That's David Palmer who sang on their first album only and is best heard on the song "Dirty Work". This video is deceiving because it looks like Palmer is the lead. It is Donald Fagan's voice that predominates and Palmer is just along for the ride.

  • So many songs by theDan and never knew it was them. I was born in '73!

  • kool song ...even though it was before my time. :)

  • the lead singer looks like Ted Danson before getting a haircut and getting the Cheers gig.

  • Thumbs up if you've ever confused this song with Santana's "Evil Ways"

  • @KroMcLovinFaSho hahaha you're right! xD

  • when i typed this in, i was happy to see that it was the first thing on the search bar, above all the other rap songs. i can die happy now.
