Calling that puke "half-Time Lord" is like calling the child of someone with a PhD "half-Doctor". LOL! Moffat as always, is full crap! and even RTD got it wrong.
and the wedding of river song was a sick-ass joke. OH BTW thedr is not married to that ugly pile of manure from hell. Whatever occurred in that alternate timeline ceased to exist once the original time line was restored. I know some babbling fools are running around prattling that they are "married" because they remember. LMAO! Following that INSANE and laughable "logic" then if Amy and Rory remember NOT being married in that other time line, then do they cease to be married? Of course not!
awww are some people so desperate to defend that troll and his gross sociopathic puke of a character that they have to attack me and my friends? pathetic little trolls you are. and losers like the fans of river and moffat are a bunch of retarded arrogant jerks who have no lives outside of their computers and tv.
@sallyjosie Glad that puke from hell isn't the doctor's wife. The First Doctor on his worst day could a million times better then that gross, creepy, ugly, sadistic, sociopathic pig from hell.
What the hell are some people smoking?! It's like they hate the dr or something. To think that pile of manure is the Dr's "ideal wife"?!! WTF?!!!

course theres always a few dinosaurs who watch anything with dr who logo, no matter how stupid.
moffat needs to take his misogynist butt and leave. His crap only appeals to the lowest of the low.
@hemily54 and @friedasmith, if you hate steven moffat and alex kingston so much, why watch a youtube video dedicated to the both of them? clearly your ugly and mean-spirited comments show that you both are a pair of worthless losers with nothing better to do than whinge like bitches on the internet. go away.
actually being counted twice. The real ratings are no where near as high as they are claiming.
And doesn't Alex's face look all swollen? Like she has some sort of health problem? seriously! No stupid insults or denials! She looks like she might need to see a real medical Doctor.
And some moron on another post tried to claim that the ratings here in the U.S had to be around 5 mil or it would have been canceled. BS! Its actually only around 1.2 mil. I think he confused network tv with cable
and anyone who thinks this ugly old hag who looks and acts like the dr's mother-in-law is hot then one can only imagine how ugly and creepy they are. Ewww! I've probably seen pukes like them in a bar where I and my friends laughed at them .
They have no life. they like creepy obnoxious azzhole women that would make most women slap her silly. she's an over-the-hill joke. but with an ugly creep like moffat in charge, of course ugly is going to reign surpreme.
@hemily54 ugh! the comments of some of the idiots on here is enough to make me want to puke! They have the grossest ideas and likes.
but I guess if some are into middle-aged looking drag queens then so be it. and that gross voice is like nails on a chalkboard. someone needs to have a long talk with alex and explain that while her over the top hammy performences appeal to the scum of the Earth some of actually have standards and she is no where near them. rme
Reading his lips he said yes to me. But since it is steven moffat if he really was going to tell her the truth he would have covered his mouth before saying it. So he could have possibly said guess instead of yes. Im hoping its yes though.
I wasn't nervous about Moffatt taking over because Moffatt wrote Empty Child, Blink and Library. Davies wrote Love & Monsters which is worse than the '96 movie.
@Nerdylation I thought Love & Monsters was brilliant. Sure, it was slightly tongue-in-cheek (the alien was particularly ridiculous--but come on, he's from Clom), but I liked the way it was told. And did you know the guy who played Elton was in the movie version of Terry Pratchett's The Hogfather? Couldn't look at him quite the same way after realizing that.
we've all found out river is amy & rory's child but could still be the doctors wife. All that flirting that goes on, the kiss, she really loves him & maybe in the future they r together after all she is part timelord. Also Alex Kingston said in doctor who confidential just how many babies have been in that cot and then said she couldnt say anymore and gave a little look at the camera. Who knows maybe theres a river/doctor baby on the way... but that would be way to many kids for this series lol.
My main problem with people trying to guess who River is, and proposing characters form seasons past (old & new Who), is the line in the Library 2-parter, when she says "This is the youngest I've ever seen you." I feel like River is one giant plot-hole, and I can't stand her just as the Doctor couldn't stand Jack once he became a "fixed point in time." She just isn't right. I mean, they can't be traveling in exactly opposite directions, for one, because otherwise they would never share a memory.
@neglabable Really they don't share memories, unless one of them let's slip something about the other's future. But they do have the memory of each other, and so know eachother's personalities and such.
@Tripicality I like your theory better than the one I think Moffat has--every time they meet, River tries to say "oh have we done this yet? Or this?" which indicates that she remembers the event and he could, too. The fact that in Impossible Astronaut (*spoiler for 6x01!*) she does meet the Doctor from her past, as in a much older Doctor, by itself shows that they don't journey exactly opposite in time, but everything else about how they act still seems to suggest they do, you know?
@neglabable yes they can share memories. when river is young, not much (she's taken away), and when the doc is young and river is nearing her end he just meets her, so not much. but when they start traveling towards each other in time, they do share memories
@genericusername337 I should probably have a diagram to go with this, because it really makes more sense drawn or hand mimed out (note: I have not seen "A Good Man Goes to War," since i watch DW on BBCA, so please no spoilers). Basically what I mean is every time they meet, imagine it like a point on the numberline of their lives (each going the opposite direction, but they cover the same years/time/total-objective-length-of-their-relationship, so they make a line) will continue post...
@neglabable haha, just after I posted that last night I seriously broke out a piece of paper and drew a timeline. I pinpointed exact moments and everything. and it seems to make sense. could be faults, but I think it works. and they go generally in opposite directions, but their timelines are seriously wibbly-wobbly, so it does make sense. a good man goes to war reveals a lot
So her knowing it, isn't a big deal. Nor are any of the other things she does. She is at the end of the day, just your run of the mill companion. She is no more interesting then Tegan or Donna. And so the Dr meets her backward. So what? He met Melonie out of order. So she has nothing. pathetic of Moffat to try and play up this Mary Sue so much. Shame on him. You'd think someone of his experience would know better, but I guess not. I wonder if he made River just like his wife? lol
She is say? What was I drinking yesterday? lol Just kidding. She said in 'Flesh and Blood' that she was a time anomaly. That was what I meant to write. And as I have said, she can't be the wife otherwise, Moffat is the worse mystery writer in history. allowing the actress to just blurt out the answer during an interview? I doubt it. I give him more credit then that. And I've said elsewhere, before Gallifrey was Time locked there were probably hundreds of Time Lords who knew the Dr's real name.
@sallyjosie LOL! Shame on you for giving any credit to a dumb-azz like moffy. his crap has become so boring and preditable its become a huge joke! Even formerly devoted fans are disgusted by the recent installments of dr who. And look how they are artificially inflating the numbers. They are adding Iplayer into the tv ratings. How much you want to bet that at least several million watched both the tv and downloaded it on their Iplayer to watch whenever they want? That means some viewers are,
(well actually Moffat wrote) about the Dr leaving the parking brakes on. Nice little joke but total BS. The Master's and The Rani's Tardis made the exact same noise when they materialised and I doubt either one of them would be so stupid as to leave their "parking break" on. They were way to precise in the way they did things. And Romana who scored much higher grades then the Dr would hardly leave the "leave the brakes on". It's probably best to chuckle at such things then ignore them.
Nope the silence is a new race! So the cleaver dicks on other posts were right. I was just quoting them. And River is not his wife! Why would moffat play it up as this great big mystery only to allow Alex to just go ahead and say in an interview last year that she was the wife! That would have been stupid. She would never have done that, had it been true. Besides in 'Time of the Angels' the Bishop asks her if the Dr knows WHO and WHAT she is. So she's probably not Human. Maybe the Tardis?
@loto159 I am beginning to see problems with that theory myself. She is say she was a bit of a time anomaly in Time of the Angels. And if she was a Time Lady the Dr should be able to sense that. Still not the wife. But someone who loves the Dr and likes to mess with him. Donna would make some sense but I did make a few mistakes in things Donna said. Unless of course they cut out certain parts due for syndication. They did that recently with the Next Doctor. The stuff River said.....
@7892sam I saw the dr wife. and I now know that the witch is amys daughter. And if she turns out to be the lameass wife how stupid is that? Never mind if you love or hate her! How stupid would Moffat have to be to pretend that there is this great big mystery only to have it turn out there was no mystery at all. If thats the best the loser can do then I shudder what he is doing on Sherlock. That is not good mystery writing. Just ask my mom. She's read hundreds of various mystery novels.
@7892sam Actually I am not going to watch. Who wants to watch this ultra-cliched crap? Have you ever seen the movie 'Spykids'? They play the whole Hit-person who falls in love with their target for laughs! Whereas that moron moffat plays it like some great love story. What a joke. Soap Operas as cliched as they are, DON'T use that stupid plot anymore. Its THAT old. lol I'm not angry. Just sad. Hopefully this twat will leave and stop insulting the intelligence of most of the fans over 8 yrs old.
@sallyjosie no i havent seen that movie cos its rubbish. moffat is an excellent writer and has given us some great episodes. doctor who is not a soap opera. its a sci fi show, hence all the sci fi related topics that are placed in it. i hope moffat stays for a long time. like i said if u don't like, don't watch so you have nothing to complain about.
@sallyjosie River Song was kidnapped as a newborn infant and probably trained as a very young child for a purpose that she never chose for herself. I wouldn't call the Doctor *her* target because of *her* own accord *she* would have never wanted to kill him in the first place. If you can't even suss out the plot in the first place then you're in no position to criticize it. Go watch Spy Kids and leave the grownups alone.
@sallyjosie Never mind the mindless devotees. They actually think an incompent butt-head like moffat is so great then leave then to wallow in his mindless drivel .
And the way that air-headed punk was trying so hard to point out how different spy kids was from the crap on dr who? What a nega-nerd. These fools obviously don't want to watch anything that requires any working brain cells. they consider his 5th grade bullshit as brilliant then let these idiots watch this dung-heap of a show.

she is not the doctors wife, i think River is actually human.
My theory is that when the Doctor became human and put his personality in the stop watch, he ended up having sex with the woman that worked in the school and that river is her daughter.................................... Nah not really!!!!
she is not the doctors wife, i think River is actually human.
My theory is that when the Doctor became human and put his personality in the stop watch, he ended up having sex with the woman that worked in the school and that river is her daughter.................................... Nah not really!!!!
I'm going to re-watch the episode...but didn't River tell the Doctor ( 10th) in the episode 04x08 silence in the library?!?!? I mean...it's not spoilers at all.
Well I think it is obvious that she is the Doctor's wife and I believe it is true. But there are more secrets about her. She's his wife yes but what else she is to him?
I would have loved to see River Song being the Doctor's wife or something close, but this kinda ruins the hope because I don't think Moffat would solve this mistery so easy, he's more careful than this. So I think it's more to it than he wants us to know.
@judep2000 it's more likely like Moffat and Niffeneger, like many writers (including a few Classic Who writers) borrowed the concept of different characters moving through time differently from each other from the 1973 story The Man Who Folded Himself.
in my opinion, river song has something to do with both amy & rose, amy- because both of their names have something to do with water and rose- because you can form rose's first name using letters in river's name. eg. 'RivEr SOng
@iluvdadoctor lol the rose thing is a little weak as a theory I think, plus steven moffat said he didn't want to include any recent character to give the eleventh doctor a fresh start. Still, you could be right I guess
Some cleaver guy has another theory that is actually the best one to date. (at least to me) He thinks that River might be a member of the silence. And that would explain the title of her first episode 'Silence in the library'. However if it turns out that she is suppose to "Kill" the Dr but "falls in love with him" that would be the lamest most ultra-cliched bs. No One writes stories like that anymore becasue that type of situation has been done to death! The only time I've seen that BS is
@sallyjosie either on a soap-opera or in a comedy like 'Spy Kids'. Where Robert Rodriguez wrote the whole "I have to kill you but I've fallen in love with you" for laughs! That sort of bs storyline would mean moffat has hit a whole new low. I mean first he steals situations straight out of 'Finding Nemo' and now he seems to be stealing a page out of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' even though IT'S not taking place there, still! If they lose the whole creepy Love angle then moffat might have something
@sallyjosie i was under the impression that the 'silence' was the end of the universe from the exploding tardis, you know everythings gone destroyed hence 'silence'?
@Quetzalcotal So was I but other posters have pointed out on the post where moffat talks about season 6 he says "Who are the silence" thus indicating that the Silence is a who not a what. Of course he loves to misdirect fans in order to "surprise" them but still it does make sense in a way. If she was a member of the Silence then the title 'Silence in the Library' would take on a duel meaning. Again I hope he doesn't go down the lame road of "I was suppose to kill you but fell in love" BS...
so obvi he said yes. im kind of disappointed river song isn't...something else haha i dunno. i guess the hints that she is his wife are too obvious in the series i thought maybe the show wouldnt be so blatant.
River Song is Romanadvoratrelunda (classic series) a timelady and a former companion of the doctor. She knows the old galifrey writing and could also fly the tardis far better than the doctor ever could. She escaped through a mirror in one of the classic epps to another dimension. Welcome back Romana!
@indemnis4 Yes, but she already knew how to fly the Tardis before she teamed up with the Dr. She also can control what she looks like when she regenerates and (no offense to Alex) I doubt she would look like that. And Three, she abhored violence and would never turn into someone like river. The Rani on the other hand. But hold the presses! Someone on Facebook has a rather interestign theory. That River is a manifestation of the Tardis. That would explain a lot. The dr is "married" to the tardis,
@sallyjosie as explained in 'The Two Doctors' he has a sort of symbiotic relationship to his Tardis, as all Time lords had with theirs. So technically he is "married" to the Tardis but it could never be his wife. So he would be free to find a real wife. And I hope moffat isn't a sick pervert who would have the dr have sex with her. Even if she looked like Miss Universe that would be like a guy having sex with his car. Sick! But as a part of his Tardis she would know all about him, his name, his
@sallyjosie penchant for comparing what he knows with whats in museums, how to write ancient Gallifrean, and everything else about him. I suppose the Tardis could have created her from some of the energy it absorbed from Rose. But still, at the end of the day it's still made from a machine. I didn't hate Rose, but she wasn't my favorite character either. She was a bit whiny and clingy. So I'm crossing my fingers river is the tardis.
@legendarymermaid Yeah , plus its a chilling thing knowing that Rory will find out the Doctor and River Song's destiny before him , and you get the impression whatever is in that book is far beyond time and space, just imagine what It could do to Rory =(
Stephen Moffet was the best thing to happen to this show since David Tennent. I like Matt Smith's doctor better though, but I still love David Tennent's doctor.
Its rumored in Series 6 Rory accidently reads River Song's blue book , and tells The Doctor what's inside , and River murders him for changing The Doctor's life Forever
@ocerg1111 He is a hero to many.Rory becomes the hero who saves the day , and everyone including The Doctor respects him and he becomes a somebody =) for a while...
@jjbkwrm1991 Exactly! Thats what I pointed out months ago. His lips were not hidden. Thank you. But thakfully dialogue indicates she is not his wife. more likely river is the valeyards wife.
Personally wouldn't be surprised if she's met Romana or is related to her. They handle the Doctor the same way, right down to the sniping over the TARDIS controls. If she was Time Lord, he'd have figured it out, and if she was fully human I don't think she'd understand Old High Gallifreyan or how to fly a TARDIS. Maybe she's a bit of each.
@IzDiaries Gallifreyan is a LANGUAGE that was written on the box. That can be learn/taught. As the same thing as how to fly the TARDIS. They both can be learned and taught to her by the Doctor. For one, we know he taught her how to fly the TARDIS. She told him so herself during the 2-part finale for the 5 series.
@AtDamagedBest And he wouldn't teach it to just anyone, and I'm sure it would take forever to learn these things if someone weren't remarkably intelligent.. We've been told before that she's got some history that might cause him not to trust her. If he taught her these things, she might have to spend decades with him in order to learn how everything works.
@IzDiaries I doubt she's Romana. That would be a horrible thing to do to her character. Romana knew how to fly the Tardis before she teamed with the Doctor . She could also control what she looked like when she regenerated so I doubt she would deliberately try and look like that ugly river. Romana also abhored violence while River is a complete sociopath. Threatening to kill someone for info? Uh, can we say insane? And while some idiots have pointed out that they bicker like a married couple...
@sallyjosie sure.....a couple who are the verge of divorce. She is not good for him. She's constantly trying to emasculate him. she's always engaging in childish one upping the Dr. She's always trying to embarrass him. 2 people in a healthy relationship would never do that to each other. I'm sorry for those for whom that kind of sick relationship is "normal". I have been married for more then 20 yrs and if I treated my husband the way river treats the dr He would leave. Period. He won't
@sallyjosie tolerate abuse and neither would I. Even if she turns out to be his wife from gallifrey that marriage would be disolved. "Till Death Do Us Part?" And since that most likely occured more then 700 yrs prior he would have become a completely differnt person on so many levels. Plus River is human or humanoid. The Dr already indicated he couldn't get too serious with anyone who would die so quickly while he would go on for another couple of 100 yrs or so.
Okay, so I know this is a little bit lame, but if you think about it, in The Doctor's Daughter, the Doctor teaches her how awful it is to kill people. The, later, we hear Riversong, talk about not wanting the Doctor to know that she's killed someone.
Anyone else think it's possible for Riversong to be the Doctor's regenerated daughter? A new show is spawned: Daughter Who
Personally, I think he just said nonsense to stir up fans. I'm sure she's been able to ask him some other time, since they were both on the same production team. If he'd really wanted to hide what he was saying, he'd have brought up a hand to block off his mouth, as anyone would. Just sayin'.
@Thedarkbunnyrabbit Totally agree with you, my thoughts exactly - there's no way he'd actually give the answer in public like that, whispered or no. He'd just make a show to get us all riled up... which he seems to have done ;)
I don't get why people think she's such a bad character. I was kind of excited to see that Moffat was introducing another character whose timeline didn't follow the Doctor's. I didn't think River and 10 would be very good together, but 11 and River seem like a nice pair. I don't know, this is just my opinion.
Excellent. Nothing will be simple, especially for two so wholly independent individuals. I doubt their "marriage" will be in the traditional sense, perhaps something more open. She's a 51st century lady by all accounts and I'm sure she'd value her own, and the Doctor's, independence. A fantastic character! Gotta love strong and mature women! GO MOFFAT!
who else thinks River is Rose cause I mean really she did tectnectly marry the Doctor after the had that human copy of him self (or at least I hope they did)....it wouldn't be his daughter Jenny even thou I would love to see an new episode where she comes back to visit.
Weird... though I guess this was all set up back in the 60's... they gave the original Doctor a grand-daughter way back in the very first episode! Of course grand-daugher implies there MUST be a son or daugher before-hand, which in turn requires an intimate female relationship at some point in the Doctor's history... However, the series then managed to avoid dealing with these implications for the next 40 years!
I'm thinking they're just super great friends or distant relatives or something (through Jenny maybe?) and she's with him when he dies so he tells her his name. Because he can die eventually, right? Or does he get endless regenerations? I was never clear on that point.
Anyway, just a dumb theory. Because I don't think I could stand it if she was his wife. She's scary.
@ToDreamIs yes, he will die after he's regenerated 12 times and had 13 lives, so two more actors will come after the current doctor and then he will die. However, the time lords have the power to give a second set of lives. The Master used his 13th life at the start of the 1996 movie but then we know he's resurrected with the ability to regnerate when the time war begins, so it's possible they may do that to the Doctor but most likely they will leave with a bang after an over 50 year run.
How is it a good story for River Song to be the Docter's Daughter? She's repeatedly sexually teased him. So basically a children's show is going to teach us all how to giggle and snicker over a woman proposistioning her daddy? Seriously?
i hope she is the doctor's grandaughter susan in a regenerated form or a member of is family on gallifrey (daughter, real wife) or even Romana but i really hope shes not a human that the doctor married or something cause i really dont like river very much and would spoil the doctor's image of the lonely traveller
dunno if anyone has suggested this but rember series 4 "The Doctor's Daughter" when the doctors daughter realsed the stuff, the same as when the doctor regenerated could River Song be the "The Doctor's Daughter" although she called herself Genni she may be now called River Song and River could be a future regenareted Doctor's Daughter. It may not be true but may be good story line. Lots of people have suggested that she is the doctors wife because she knows his name but "The Doctor's Daughter"
River HAS to be the Doctor's wife! There are so many hints indicating that she is and I really do hope so as she suits him SO well and they make a fantastic pair <3
how do we know he said anything at all....they could have just planned the thing to mess with people like just pretend hes saying the answer as he knew there was a camera.
She is!!!!!! look at his mouth!!!! watch it! now look at yourself in the mirror and say yes and no! yes is a simple opening and closing, and with no, you turn your mouth into an oh!
Actually? It does look like he says "Yes". Look at the movement of his jaw, mouth, and lips - it's the wrong shape for the word "No" but it does match a word that ends with an 's' sound... "Yes" ?
I Hope Rive Song is The Doctors Wife they Suit each other and this mead me Laugh and the Man who told the woman something he said Yes As i can tell lol
i've just had a revelation!!! (i don't care if it's wrong, but it'd be great if it was!) river song is the TARDIS!!! that would be so awesome; it'd be like the TARDIS had found a physical form that was humanoid. i think the TARDIS probably is in love with the doctor. (Please don't steal my idea; i've already written a fanfic! (although if you're steven moffat you can! No, really!))
Grr, Moffat is good at hiding things. I really really really really really hope that River Song isn't his wife. It would just ruin the entire series for me! The ENTIRE series. And plus, it would make Rose look like nothing, and like a whore XD I like River Song kind of in general, but NOT AS A LOVE INTEREST OR WIFE. Noooooooo......
if she was his wife that would be a little too obvious wouldnt it? i think all these hints towards them being married might just be red herrings because it wouldn't be much of a surprise now would it.
I think that River Song, may be the doctors companion from many series ago!
Her name was Romana and she was a Time Lady, so its a possibility, she was sent to hep the doctor find the Key of TIme, then stayed with him for a time.
She was so facinated with the doctor in one of her reincarnations she used to dress like the doctor, but her long coat was pink and her scarf was white.
river has to be his wife as she calls him dear, and sweetie if thats his mum, sister or anyother speculation then shes from norfolk, it either his wife or possibley himself in the future
i dont think river song is his wife- because if the doctor will be married, some of his charm will go. plus, because of their relationship its even too obviouse that they are a married capple, and moffat usually wants to suprise :)
Or maybe she is an evil person and doctor changes her for the better..... just based on the fact that I think their next meeting will not be pleasant! Based on the last few minutes of the season finale...
I recon she is the Doctor's wife because of the way they BOTH act around each other, like a married couple. Lol. Even though in 'The Time of Angels' and 'Flesh and Stone' AMy asked that question and River said '' Do you htink it's something that simple?'' and Amy replys ''Yes'' then River says ''You're good, I'm not saying you're right. But you're good.'' that is sorta a hint that Amy is right but Spoilers. Maybe the finale will reveal all we need to know...
OK, I can sort of lip read...I think he whispered 'I do'. Hm...btw, if The Doctor knew that giving River Song his screwdriver would one day save her life...then why did he give her his screwdriver?
As you pointed out, It was made abundantly clear in 'The Deadly Assassin' AND 'Invasion of Time'. At least to those who listen and use our brains!
Several lines of dialogue indicates that there are ordinary Gallifreyans, Guards, AND Time Lords. Man, some people are fn stupid! It's stated in the tv episode and in the books

I mean, they can't be traveling in exactly opposite directions, for one, because otherwise they would never share a memory.
neglabable 9 months ago
@neglabable Really they don't share memories, unless one of them let's slip something about the other's future. But they do have the memory of each other, and so know eachother's personalities and such.
Tripicality 9 months ago
@Tripicality I like your theory better than the one I think Moffat has--every time they meet, River tries to say "oh have we done this yet? Or this?" which indicates that she remembers the event and he could, too. The fact that in Impossible Astronaut (*spoiler for 6x01!*) she does meet the Doctor from her past, as in a much older Doctor, by itself shows that they don't journey exactly opposite in time, but everything else about how they act still seems to suggest they do, you know?
neglabable 9 months ago
@neglabable yes they can share memories. when river is young, not much (she's taken away), and when the doc is young and river is nearing her end he just meets her, so not much. but when they start traveling towards each other in time, they do share memories
genericusername337 9 months ago
@genericusername337 I should probably have a diagram to go with this, because it really makes more sense drawn or hand mimed out (note: I have not seen "A Good Man Goes to War," since i watch DW on BBCA, so please no spoilers). Basically what I mean is every time they meet, imagine it like a point on the numberline of their lives (each going the opposite direction, but they cover the same years/time/total-objective-length-of-their-relationship, so they make a line) will continue post...
neglabable 9 months ago
@neglabable haha, just after I posted that last night I seriously broke out a piece of paper and drew a timeline. I pinpointed exact moments and everything. and it seems to make sense. could be faults, but I think it works. and they go generally in opposite directions, but their timelines are seriously wibbly-wobbly, so it does make sense. a good man goes to war reveals a lot
genericusername337 9 months ago
So her knowing it, isn't a big deal. Nor are any of the other things she does. She is at the end of the day, just your run of the mill companion. She is no more interesting then Tegan or Donna. And so the Dr meets her backward. So what? He met Melonie out of order. So she has nothing. pathetic of Moffat to try and play up this Mary Sue so much. Shame on him. You'd think someone of his experience would know better, but I guess not. I wonder if he made River just like his wife? lol
sallyjosie 9 months ago
And I've said elsewhere, before Gallifrey was Time locked there were probably hundreds of Time Lords who knew the Dr's real name.

friedasmith 5 months ago
(well actually Moffat wrote) about the Dr leaving the parking brakes on. Nice little joke but total BS. The Master's and The Rani's Tardis made the exact same noise when they materialised and I doubt either one of them would be so stupid as to leave their "parking break" on. They were way to precise in the way they did things. And Romana who scored much higher grades then the Dr would hardly leave the "leave the brakes on". It's probably best to chuckle at such things then ignore them.

devilusyt 10 months ago
Nope the silence is a new race! So the cleaver dicks on other posts were right. I was just quoting them. And River is not his wife! Why would moffat play it up as this great big mystery only to allow Alex to just go ahead and say in an interview last year that she was the wife! That would have been stupid. She would never have done that, had it been true. Besides in 'Time of the Angels' the Bishop asks her if the Dr knows WHO and WHAT she is. So she's probably not Human. Maybe the Tardis?
sallyjosie 10 months ago
@sallyjosie How could River be the TARDIS? Wouldn't that pose a problem seeing that if it were true then she had already piloted herself?
loto159 9 months ago
@loto159 I am beginning to see problems with that theory myself. She is say she was a bit of a time anomaly in Time of the Angels. And if she was a Time Lady the Dr should be able to sense that. Still not the wife. But someone who loves the Dr and likes to mess with him. Donna would make some sense but I did make a few mistakes in things Donna said. Unless of course they cut out certain parts due for syndication. They did that recently with the Next Doctor. The stuff River said.....

in my opinion, river song has something to do with both amy & rose, amy- because both of their names have something to do with water and rose- because you can form rose's first name using letters in river's name. eg. 'RivEr SOng
iluvdadoctor 11 months ago
@iluvdadoctor lol the rose thing is a little weak as a theory I think, plus steven moffat said he didn't want to include any recent character to give the eleventh doctor a fresh start. Still, you could be right I guess
Mustang318 11 months ago
Some cleaver guy has another theory that is actually the best one to date. (at least to me) He thinks that River might be a member of the silence. And that would explain the title of her first episode 'Silence in the library'. However if it turns out that she is suppose to "Kill" the Dr but "falls in love with him" that would be the lamest most ultra-cliched bs. No One writes stories like that anymore becasue that type of situation has been done to death! The only time I've seen that BS is
sallyjosie 1 year ago
@sallyjosie either on a soap-opera or in a comedy like 'Spy Kids'. Where Robert Rodriguez wrote the whole "I have to kill you but I've fallen in love with you" for laughs! That sort of bs storyline would mean moffat has hit a whole new low. I mean first he steals situations straight out of 'Finding Nemo' and now he seems to be stealing a page out of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' even though IT'S not taking place there, still! If they lose the whole creepy Love angle then moffat might have something
sallyjosie 1 year ago
@sallyjosie i was under the impression that the 'silence' was the end of the universe from the exploding tardis, you know everythings gone destroyed hence 'silence'?
Quetzalcotal 11 months ago
@Quetzalcotal So was I but other posters have pointed out on the post where moffat talks about season 6 he says "Who are the silence" thus indicating that the Silence is a who not a what. Of course he loves to misdirect fans in order to "surprise" them but still it does make sense in a way. If she was a member of the Silence then the title 'Silence in the Library' would take on a duel meaning. Again I hope he doesn't go down the lame road of "I was suppose to kill you but fell in love" BS...

River Song is Romanadvoratrelunda (classic series) a timelady and a former companion of the doctor. She knows the old galifrey writing and could also fly the tardis far better than the doctor ever could. She escaped through a mirror in one of the classic epps to another dimension. Welcome back Romana!
indemnis4 1 year ago
@indemnis4 Yes, but she already knew how to fly the Tardis before she teamed up with the Dr. She also can control what she looks like when she regenerates and (no offense to Alex) I doubt she would look like that. And Three, she abhored violence and would never turn into someone like river. The Rani on the other hand. But hold the presses! Someone on Facebook has a rather interestign theory. That River is a manifestation of the Tardis. That would explain a lot. The dr is "married" to the tardis,
sallyjosie 1 year ago
@sallyjosie as explained in 'The Two Doctors' he has a sort of symbiotic relationship to his Tardis, as all Time lords had with theirs. So technically he is "married" to the Tardis but it could never be his wife. So he would be free to find a real wife. And I hope moffat isn't a sick pervert who would have the dr have sex with her. Even if she looked like Miss Universe that would be like a guy having sex with his car. Sick! But as a part of his Tardis she would know all about him, his name, his

sallyjosie 1 year ago
Personally wouldn't be surprised if she's met Romana or is related to her. They handle the Doctor the same way, right down to the sniping over the TARDIS controls. If she was Time Lord, he'd have figured it out, and if she was fully human I don't think she'd understand Old High Gallifreyan or how to fly a TARDIS. Maybe she's a bit of each.
IzDiaries 1 year ago
@IzDiaries Gallifreyan is a LANGUAGE that was written on the box. That can be learn/taught. As the same thing as how to fly the TARDIS. They both can be learned and taught to her by the Doctor. For one, we know he taught her how to fly the TARDIS. She told him so herself during the 2-part finale for the 5 series.
AtDamagedBest 1 year ago
@AtDamagedBest And he wouldn't teach it to just anyone, and I'm sure it would take forever to learn these things if someone weren't remarkably intelligent.. We've been told before that she's got some history that might cause him not to trust her. If he taught her these things, she might have to spend decades with him in order to learn how everything works.
IzDiaries 1 year ago
@IzDiaries I doubt she's Romana. That would be a horrible thing to do to her character. Romana knew how to fly the Tardis before she teamed with the Doctor . She could also control what she looked like when she regenerated so I doubt she would deliberately try and look like that ugly river. Romana also abhored violence while River is a complete sociopath. Threatening to kill someone for info? Uh, can we say insane? And while some idiots have pointed out that they bicker like a married couple...
sallyjosie 1 year ago
@sallyjosie sure.....a couple who are the verge of divorce. She is not good for him. She's constantly trying to emasculate him. she's always engaging in childish one upping the Dr. She's always trying to embarrass him. 2 people in a healthy relationship would never do that to each other. I'm sorry for those for whom that kind of sick relationship is "normal". I have been married for more then 20 yrs and if I treated my husband the way river treats the dr He would leave. Period. He won't
sallyjosie 1 year ago
@sallyjosie tolerate abuse and neither would I. Even if she turns out to be his wife from gallifrey that marriage would be disolved. "Till Death Do Us Part?" And since that most likely occured more then 700 yrs prior he would have become a completely differnt person on so many levels. Plus River is human or humanoid. The Dr already indicated he couldn't get too serious with anyone who would die so quickly while he would go on for another couple of 100 yrs or so.
sallyjosie 1 year ago
Okay, so I know this is a little bit lame, but if you think about it, in The Doctor's Daughter, the Doctor teaches her how awful it is to kill people. The, later, we hear Riversong, talk about not wanting the Doctor to know that she's killed someone.

AliceJasperfan 1 year ago
Weird... though I guess this was all set up back in the 60's... they gave the original Doctor a grand-daughter way back in the very first episode! Of course grand-daugher implies there MUST be a son or daugher before-hand, which in turn requires an intimate female relationship at some point in the Doctor's history... However, the series then managed to avoid dealing with these implications for the next 40 years!
sukumvit 1 year ago
I'm thinking they're just super great friends or distant relatives or something (through Jenny maybe?) and she's with him when he dies so he tells her his name. Because he can die eventually, right? Or does he get endless regenerations? I was never clear on that point.
Anyway, just a dumb theory. Because I don't think I could stand it if she was his wife. She's scary.
ToDreamIs 1 year ago

Seriously?
seafoamfog 1 year ago 2
i hope she is the doctor's grandaughter susan in a regenerated form or a member of is family on gallifrey (daughter, real wife) or even Romana but i really hope shes not a human that the doctor married or something cause i really dont like river very much and would spoil the doctor's image of the lonely traveller
dbzfan988 1 year ago 2
was created from the doctors dna could possibly be a reason why she knows the doctors name.
ROCKMUSIC76 1 year ago
dunno if anyone has suggested this but rember series 4 "The Doctor's Daughter" when the doctors daughter realsed the stuff, the same as when the doctor regenerated could River Song be the "The Doctor's Daughter" although she called herself Genni she may be now called River Song and River could be a future regenareted Doctor's Daughter.

ChintRista 1 year ago
@ChintRista I agree. He clearly said, "Yes", and he meant the audience to see it. Of course when he write the episodes, there will always be a twist.

River kicks ass! Shes his perfect match...besides, whoever HADNT worked out that she was his wife is probably a little thick.
PiggyofGuinea 1 year ago
Actually? It does look like he says "Yes". Look at the movement of his jaw, mouth, and lips - it's the wrong shape for the word "No" but it does match a word that ends with an 's' sound... "Yes" ?

i've just had a revelation!!!

Just a reminder, we've already met the Doctor's mother in the End of Time. So unless she somehow survived and regenerated...

It looks like he says yes.... That's the form his mouth made. I even double checked!

if she was his wife that would be a little too obvious wouldnt it? i think all these hints towards them being married might just be red herrings because it wouldn't be much of a surprise now would it.

@thecjclones ... it's a little creepy then that she calls him sweetie, pretty boy, sends him kisses and gazes longingly into his eyes...

It's gotten to the point, for me, where I don't even care if she's his wife or not, I just want to know who the hell she is NOW!

TomElgieDOTcom 1 year ago
i dont think river song is his wife- because if the doctor will be married, some of his charm will go. plus, because of their relationship its even too obviouse that they are a married capple, and moffat usually wants to suprise :)
