As a Chamorro-American who's lived stateside for most of my life, I cannot, nor do I feel like I've earned the right to speak for the people of Guam. However, I will state that AS LONG AS GUAM REMAINS A LEGAL TERRITORY of the U.S., the realization of Decoloniztion at least in a concrete sense, are meager at best. Mainly due to the mentioned political and socioeconomic powers(behind the scenes)that have dominated local, politcal, decisions since the U.S. gained sovereignty over Guam, circa 1899.
Amazing the common denominators and similarities of the colonization situation on this Island and the gentrification situations in dozens of Black communities in the US. All being besieged by economically overprivileged white people.
without the US, Guam will go broke. If they can't afford to pay rent, they wont be able to pay for the infrastructure.
