wow!...it never fails to amaze me the lovely footage that people have kept and cherished for years....thanks for being such a faithful music lover nyrainbow2...I have Darlene's bio and like her artistry very much
What if it had been Darlene who had sung all of those Bacharat/David songs instead of Dionne Warwick? Then again, maybe she wouldn't have been the rocker which she turned out to be. Man, talk about range and talent! This gal should've been in the Rock and Roll HOF on the first ballot and first year.
Darlene Love had "IT". I like this version of this song. It's not "hers' though. She was WAY overlooked. as a singer. I wonder if this version would have been a hit if there were no Dionne?
Dionne's original version is the best . . . it's just her style . . . it had that certain something. Love Darlene Love . . . seeing her tomorrow night 12-17-09

'Negress' is a term for coloured women in the scandinavian languages, the male equivalent is 'neger. For some reason though, the word 'negress' don't have any of the negative connotations associated with 'neger'/negro. In Europe race isn't nearly as big an issue as it is in America, and I don't think anyone here would be offended by the word, unless clearly used pejorative.
Hey, the only reason that negro was offensive is because people mispronounced it . it's pronounced Naygro because the word is latin and in Latin it means black. When it came over to white america for some reason, they put the i as in it sound to it giving it a too close for comfort sound to another short i word that people know and hate. I think to be safe that you should call her Ms. Love that way no offense taken.
Darlene Love is considered to be one of the greatest female singers of the rock era. She was not only the lead singer of the Blossoms, but also the lead singer of Bob.B. Soxx and the bluejeans. The Blossoms performed "He's a Rebel" as the Crystals when they weren't available to record it and another artist was planning to release it. She also had hits under her own name. The Blossoms also backed Shelly Fabares on "Johnny Angel". She admitted that the Blossoms had gorgeous voices.
What area in the world uses the term, Negress? Where in the world is this terminology used? A term referencing a woman of African ancestry! Okay, one can assume you are not from the USA! We do not use terminology like this in the USA! I do not take offense, just need some clarification :)
Yes, Ms. Darlene Love is African-American (black, colored, or negro depending on the era in US history) from W. Virginia, USA! She later went on to play Danny Glover's wife in the "Lethal Weapon" movies!

no offense intended. I had an asian get put out because i said oriental. what is the term for a half breed? mestizo?mulatto or an 1/8th breeed octaroon.many a number of slaves looked white but that 1 part of african blood sealed their status..you r response was programmed almost a script. that word was a trigger with a predictuive general response. that is how they condition us all in . our duty is to not let them. think for yourself critically.the programs are all around us.
Hey, I guess without meaning to you strike a superiority chord. Asian people don't want to me named after rugs and Native americans aren't half dog so leave Oriental and breed out the vocabular and learn names please.
LOVE.. Darlene Love, Good to see this old clip of Darlene's take on this Dionne classic. I like it!! The Stylistics version is really nice 2. My favorite cover is Aretha's versions from the 1970's when her voice was that of a bird!!! Enough la la's, Check it out!!
I was looking for Dionne Warwick singing this song to add to my list of favorites, and I discovered Darlene Love's version (and I thought I had heard every song she has ever sung!) What a nice surprise!
@oldiesfan52 Yeah, I have associated this one with Dionne and kinda stumbled into it. It's bizaare seeing Darlene Love all done up with that hair do (or is it a wig?), as was the requirement in the day. I have seen very few clips of her from that point in time.
@oldiesfan52 This may have been from the T.V. show "Shindig!". Darlene and her group the Blossoms were regulars on the show. The Blossoms often sang their versions of girl group and solo female hits from that time period on the show, which aired from Sept. 1964 through early 1966. Sometimes individual Blossoms were given solos.
Darlene's version of this classic Burt Bacharach song is absolutely super cool! Her soulful, nitty-gritty voice adds such a unique twist to this classic song!
Dionne may have brought this wonderful evergreen to the people and delighted us in the process but how can one deny a rendition by the great Darlene Love? I like `em both. The songs AND the gals who sing `em!
Best music ever==off to college the next year spinning Beatle's LP's in my dorm room and wanting a boyfriend. Badly.

Why is Darlene Love NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? That is an injustice.

She is fab, I prefer it towards the end of the song when she almost breaks into the real Darlene but she was probably told to try and copy Dionne.

As a White person, I prefer "honky," "cracker," "peckerwood," "redneck" and "one characterized by caucasoid features" over "caucasian" any day.
