@Zapadlo yes synaptic package manager, it's under System tab. So system>synaptic, there type the name of the package you want, mark it and hit apply. That's it.
I downloaded Abuse and the sound library. Pulse Audio & Abuse hang using 100% CPU when exiting (force kill works). I can play but get no sound. Any suggestions?
I'm not wrong at all. I've chosen one particular way to install the software and have demonstrated some of the programs available. I believe if we over-complicate Linux, we'll restrict users' ability to make the switch. Those who know what Apt is already know that you don't need Synaptic to install this stuff, so it's obvious it's not for them. Don't lose sight of what's truly important. What package manager a user uses, or what distro, is not what I'm focusing on here.
APT is the package manager. Synaptic is just a graphical front-end so you can graphically install packages.
Also, Linux != Ubuntu, meaning that there are many more APT-based distros, that are not Ubuntu. Plus, people tend to forget that Debian is Ubuntu's parent, where APT was created, and they have been other distros on APT before Ubuntu's appear.
Absolutely right. Our focus though, is to make Linux accessible to a new user. Explaining "apt" and "Debian" and distros is not what we're about. That's confusing to a new user. We're about making it as simple as can be; and when a user is ready, they'll know what a "distro" is. ;) Hope that makes sense.
Great video, very informative.

Then, instead of putting Synaptics, put for Ubuntu. Many more people will sure understand.
There are people that don't even use Synaptic directly, but Add or Remove packages, or the new Ubuntu Software Center.

You've missed an important point in what we do; but no harm done. Simplification is perhaps the most important step in helping users find freedom.
