The guy at 0:38 who says "lots of use of mathematics...." and the girl at 0:44 "...a prestigious profession" and the girl at 0:57 who says "I always loved maths....academia wasn't for me because I like explaining things to people" are all so unbelievably full of BS it boggles the mind! You hardly EVER use complex math on the job...only to pass the early exams. Like explaining ideas? Academia is perfect! Duh! What does a teacher do? Actuaries spend 80% of the day staring at spreadsheets.
@JSasRays No, you're wrong. I speak with 10 years of experience in t the industry. Many people like their jobs as an actuary, but it ain't prestigious, it ain't about math AT ALL and you spend LESS time explaing things to people than your average teacher for sure. And 80% of your day IS at your desk, where you're usually working with some kind of spreadsheet.
