its not so much that im "2 cool 4 a minvan", its just that it has no point. i mean, can you go offroad with it? no. can you carry a lot in the trunk? no. can you carry a ski rack on top? no. how about tow a boat? no. does it provide any fun 4 the driver all? unless you count 0-60 in 16 seconds fun, no. how about handling? no FF car has ever had good handling. ever. okay, how bout braking? no car with drum brakes has ever had short braking distance. ever. k, how bout luxury? not even close.
Wow. It's pretty sad how many people are still trying to counter the Odyssey. Wake up, people. Obviously the Osyssey is much more practical. Just because your self-consciousness rages beyond your control doesn't mean you should still buy the SUV that gets horrendous gas mileage when the Odyssey is obviously a much better vehicle.
Hmmm... I am more concerned with which one has a smoother ride, handles better. My husband and I are both under 5'8". On the occasion that my 6'3" father rides with us, he can sit in the front!
the 3rd row is for kids, this suv is made for normal family.mom and dad in front, big sis or bro and baby in the 2nd row, and little bro or sis in the 3rd row. another way to use the suv for a smaller family is, have the 3rd row down most of the week and when you need to pick up extra friends for soccer or school events just pull the 3rd row up.
jared jared jared!! u answered my question exactly!! my husban is 6 ft 6 and we have three children. i see the pilot commercials and think...hmmm... we have a dodge minivan now. buh now, i know!! stick with the mini vans! thanks!!
2. The Pilot is smaller, so obviously the 3rd row seat is not going to be as roomy...
3. The Pilot has 4WD
The Odyssey is great if all you do is drive on pavement in a warm climate and everyone in your family is over 6 feet tall. Oh, and if you can park that lardass of a car into a parking spot
this is retarded, all he talks about is how well an abnormally large 6'7 man would fit into either car. Space for a 6'7 man is not how to judge if one car is better then another
On holiday occasions and such, when we have to pack a lot of people into the crossover to go to dinner or whatever, I get put in the third row because my grandparents can't get back there. I'm about 6'1" and it's quite uncomfortable. My head hits the roof and I have to sit kinda sideways. To compare, I tried Windy's third row, and found I had more room than I needed.
My family, all 7 of us ranging from 6'2" to 7'2" own a mix of Pilots and Odyssey's, we cant all fit in the Pilot but when we take them out we are going out into the woods and you need supplies then so we take 4 Pilots, when we all go out for a night we can all fit rather comfortably in an Odyssey. It depends on what you need them for.
Minivans can't tow. Minivans can go off-road. Minivans don't do good in winter. SUV's are not supposed to try to take after minivans, they are for big families that cant fit in a 5 seater truck and need the towing capabilities of a truck and if necessary they can have 4 wheel drive. Minivans are ok for city moms. But for people who live in the country and roads don't get plowed during the winter, I'll go with a suv.
these comments are a great showcase of the really dumb, ignorant people that go out of their way to make sure people know how inept they are. for the redneck/idiots that somehow got access to the internet : the focus of this video is to compare two types of 'people haulers'. the fact that they used honda is completely irrelevant. this video is aimed to the 'soccer mom' who can't decide if she wants the utility/4wd of an suv or practicality of a minivan. this isn't a showdown...
This is not a fair comparison of space/volume. Everyone instinctively knows that if he/she a tall or big person, it would be stupid to buy a small car. Kinda like comparing a small Miata and a Limosine. DUH!
Lol at the poorly designed SUV... I guess the engineers forgot that maybe just maybe more than one person would ride in the SUV even though that's not often the case.
An odd evaluation - how many times will anyone ever have 3 rows of 6'7" guys jammed in a minivan/SUV ... unless you're the designated highschool basketball driver, who cares? I like the older Pilot because it's not so bloated and monolithic as the Odyssey. But I don't particularly need the 4x4 capacity of the Pilot.
@Volvo745T Welcome to my family, me at 7'2" my father at 6'6" 3 brothers all at 6'8" a mother who is 6'2" and a sister who is 6'4", do you suppose that we would buy a pilot just b/c we dont want to be seen in a minivan? hell the Odyssey is the only van that we have found thats comfortable for all of us when we go out together.
I'm actually considering these two cars so I was interested in this comparison. Very informative and very funny! It's hilarious that the guy is so deadpan!
The ultimate showdown between two flaming pieces of shit. Who will be the victor, piece of shit number one, or piece of shit number two? OH, the suspense!
yes, the 3rd row seat in a pilot is tight, but it is not meant to be used for the long haul. i have a 03 model. my wife beats the piss out of it and it is still reliable and runs like the day we bought it.
I hate when people siting the last row say they would eventually complain. I mean what do you want? A huge freaking limo so your legs are 3 feet from the nearest object? I mean if you can fit that should be enough satisfication.
This is a really great video. I think the majority of people who buy the Pilot would use it in the same way as if they bought an Odyssey (people moving). There are only a small percentage of people that use the Pilot for its utility, and most buy it for the cool factor as mentioned in the video.
these magazine-based video reviews are so mundane, i tend to forget i'm watching a car review and drift to sleep. don't get me wrong, i am a Car and Driver subscriber, and their written skills are far better than their on-camera skills.
While I think driver comfort it important for safety, it is also important to have happy passengers that are not complaining while you drive around town or to the cottage.... you can imagine this can have an equally-uncomfortable feeling.

Odyssey win. See, I'm cooler then those who are "too cool to be seen in a minivan" Basically I don't give a shit what other people think- my Ody kicks so much ass.
err are you really going to be driving the car full of guys your height? you can't really put yourself in driver seat and second row and third row and expect to sit comfortably in all of them without adjusting the seats. in reality passengers will be smarter and sit together with each other who have similar height so not all rows require the same large amount of leg room
Dude, You were way too tall for the third row seat on the pilot. But, I know how you feel, the third row of the pilot is suprisingly small for such a large vehicle.
That's what I thought too. I mean it looks big on the outside, but suprisingly small on the inside. I mean, I own an 1996 Toyota Camry sedan v6, and when I put them side by side, they're not that different in lenth.
Yo you can't compare two vehicles just on there seating and plus, how can you make a comparison like that when the Odyssey is way bigger than the Pilot.
I have an 05 Odyssey EX, and I love it for the ride, comfort, handling, and the room. I have had no maintenance or repair problems. Mileage could be better, but it gets 26 hiway, and 17 in town. It is powerful, when I need to get up to speed, or climb a hill. I converted from station wagons, which had similar capabilities, but less mpg, and lots of room and comfort. Anybody who thinks they are too cool for a van has no sense. Vans are for smart folks.
Why is the person driving the car cramming their legs up into the dash to accomodate people in the second row? And why would three 6' 7" tall people be lined up one behind the other in a car? This whole analysis is just dumb. Thanks again Car and Driver. Now I remember why I cancelled my subscription.
