  • Thats a dumb review. Who wants to have a 7ft guy riding in their car anyway. Pilot kicks odys azz and then sum. AWD, hello!

  • its not so much that im "2 cool 4 a minvan", its just that it has no point. i mean, can you go offroad with it? no. can you carry a lot in the trunk? no. can you carry a ski rack on top? no. how about tow a boat? no. does it provide any fun 4 the driver all? unless you count 0-60 in 16 seconds fun, no. how about handling? no FF car has ever had good handling. ever. okay, how bout braking? no car with drum brakes has ever had short braking distance. ever. k, how bout luxury? not even close.

  • Id feel better not driving a Honda.

  • Wow. It's pretty sad how many people are still trying to counter the Odyssey. Wake up, people. Obviously the Osyssey is much more practical. Just because your self-consciousness rages beyond your control doesn't mean you should still buy the SUV that gets horrendous gas mileage when the Odyssey is obviously a much better vehicle.

  • Hmmm... I am more concerned with which one has a smoother ride, handles better. My husband and I are both under 5'8". On the occasion that my 6'3" father rides with us, he can sit in the front!

  • the 3rd row is for kids, this suv is made for normal family.mom and dad in front, big sis or bro and baby in the 2nd row, and little bro or sis in the 3rd row. another way to use the suv for a smaller family is, have the 3rd row down most of the week and when you need to pick up extra friends for soccer or school events just pull the 3rd row up.

  • jared jared jared!! u answered my question exactly!! my husban is 6 ft 6 and we have three children. i see the pilot commercials and think...hmmm... we have a dodge minivan now. buh now, i know!! stick with the mini vans! thanks!!

  • 1. The Pilot looks better

    2. The Pilot is smaller, so obviously the 3rd row seat is not going to be as roomy...

    3. The Pilot has 4WD

The Odyssey is great if all you do is drive on pavement in a warm climate and everyone in your family is over 6 feet tall. Oh, and if you can park that lardass of a car into a parking spot

  • The suv are more powerfull and beautifoul! Van only suck ;)

  • how many damn near 7 foot mutants does an average family have?! Besides, you turned me off when you said honda ____

  • what a dumb review everybody knows that mini vans are longer larger then the suv's

  • @kngsunny if you can find a minivan that is bigger than both the GMC Yukon Denali and the Cadillac Escalade EXT, then ill believe you.

  • what a pointless review.. comparing the interior space of odessey and pilot?? what were you expecting?

  • this is retarded, all he talks about is how well an abnormally large 6'7 man would fit into either car. Space for a 6'7 man is not how to judge if one car is better then another

  • this is retarded all he talks about is how a 6 foot 7 man would fit into either car

  • Well Said, Well Done!

  • hahahahahaha, this guy is great.

  • I have a Ford Windstar minivan.

My parents have a Ford Taurus X crossover.

On holiday occasions and such, when we have to pack a lot of people into the crossover to go to dinner or whatever, I get put in the third row because my grandparents can't get back there. I'm about 6'1" and it's quite uncomfortable. My head hits the roof and I have to sit kinda sideways. To compare, I tried Windy's third row, and found I had more room than I needed.

I concluded that crossovers are fucking stupid.

  • im 6'4 1/2 '' and i barely fit in my gf's 94 accord with a sunroof.....if it had even 1 inch....just 1!!...it would make all the difference :(

  • I wish I had his problem :(

    Signed,

    -5'8 midget

P.S. Jesus this vid is awkward

  • My family, all 7 of us ranging from 6'2" to 7'2" own a mix of Pilots and Odyssey's, we cant all fit in the Pilot but when we take them out we are going out into the woods and you need supplies then so we take 4 Pilots, when we all go out for a night we can all fit rather comfortably in an Odyssey. It depends on what you need them for.

  • Minivans can't tow. Minivans can go off-road. Minivans don't do good in winter. SUV's are not supposed to try to take after minivans, they are for big families that cant fit in a 5 seater truck and need the towing capabilities of a truck and if necessary they can have 4 wheel drive. Minivans are ok for city moms. But for people who live in the country and roads don't get plowed during the winter, I'll go with a suv.

  • because them asian people are like midgets thats plenty of room back in there in either

    suv

  • haha, they should let this guy do all of the reviews

  • these comments are a great showcase of the really dumb, ignorant people that go out of their way to make sure people know how inept they are. for the redneck/idiots that somehow got access to the internet : the focus of this video is to compare two types of 'people haulers'. the fact that they used honda is completely irrelevant. this video is aimed to the 'soccer mom' who can't decide if she wants the utility/4wd of an suv or practicality of a minivan. this isn't a showdown...

  • This is not a fair comparison of space/volume. Everyone instinctively knows that if he/she a tall or big person, it would be stupid to buy a small car. Kinda like comparing a small Miata and a Limosine. DUH!

  • u chose 2 shity hondas try somthing not built by honda.

  • @sirtokesalot47 Can we try your mom?

  • um, why is this here. it's minivan vs midsize suv. of course the minivan has more seating room.

  • LOVE this video!!!

I have driven(and owned) both and have to say I have really enjoyed the value, longevity and maneuverability of both.

I am leery of the size of the Odyssey viz-a-viz the smaller sized back window, compared to the "older" Odyssey version.

Any opinions on visibility while driving the Odyssey?

  • Lol at the poorly designed SUV... I guess the engineers forgot that maybe just maybe more than one person would ride in the SUV even though that's not often the case.

The guy doing the show is cute though :)

  • An odd evaluation - how many times will anyone ever have 3 rows of 6'7" guys jammed in a minivan/SUV ... unless you're the designated highschool basketball driver, who cares? I like the older Pilot because it's not so bloated and monolithic as the Odyssey. But I don't particularly need the 4x4 capacity of the Pilot.

  • @Volvo745T Welcome to my family, me at 7'2" my father at 6'6" 3 brothers all at 6'8" a mother who is 6'2" and a sister who is 6'4", do you suppose that we would buy a pilot just b/c we dont want to be seen in a minivan? hell the Odyssey is the only van that we have found thats comfortable for all of us when we go out together.

  • I'm actually considering these two cars so I was interested in this comparison. Very informative and very funny! It's hilarious that the guy is so deadpan!

  • I agree odyssey all the way..fuck a pilot..Of course I am a lil biased check my page...

  • The ultimate showdown between two flaming pieces of shit. Who will be the victor, piece of shit number one, or piece of shit number two? OH, the suspense!

  • yes, the 3rd row seat in a pilot is tight, but it is not meant to be used for the long haul. i have a 03 model. my wife beats the piss out of it and it is still reliable and runs like the day we bought it.

  • try this with the new pilot. you'll see its a MUCH different story.

  • I hate when people siting the last row say they would eventually complain. I mean what do you want? A huge freaking limo so your legs are 3 feet from the nearest object? I mean if you can fit that should be enough satisfication.

  • Those sideburns are about 6'7" too!

  • LOL

  • This is a really great video. I think the majority of people who buy the Pilot would use it in the same way as if they bought an Odyssey (people moving). There are only a small percentage of people that use the Pilot for its utility, and most buy it for the cool factor as mentioned in the video.

  • I still like the pilot.

  • these magazine-based video reviews are so mundane, i tend to forget i'm watching a car review and drift to sleep. don't get me wrong, i am a Car and Driver subscriber, and their written skills are far better than their on-camera skills.

  • While I think driver comfort it important for safety, it is also important to have happy passengers that are not complaining while you drive around town or to the cottage.... you can imagine this can have an equally-uncomfortable feeling.

  • Haha! I love this guy. At first I thought, "Oh no... this is going to be rough." But, in the end, his awkwardness makes it that much better. I find 2:30 and on positively (awkwardly) hilarious.

  • Odyssey win. See, I'm cooler then those who are "too cool to be seen in a minivan" Basically I don't give a shit what other people think- my Ody kicks so much ass.

  • "I would ride back here for a few hours, without complaining... after that I'd start throwing things."

    LOL.

  • dam hes tall!

  • err are you really going to be driving the car full of guys your height? you can't really put yourself in driver seat and second row and third row and expect to sit comfortably in all of them without adjusting the seats. in reality passengers will be smarter and sit together with each other who have similar height so not all rows require the same large amount of leg room

  • Dude, You were way too tall for the third row seat on the pilot. But, I know how you feel, the third row of the pilot is suprisingly small for such a large vehicle.

  • i own a 08 pilot and it's not that big, it just appears big. the accord is longer than a pilot, so i'm not surprised that the third row is small.

  • That's what I thought too. I mean it looks big on the outside, but suprisingly small on the inside. I mean, I own an 1996 Toyota Camry sedan v6, and when I put them side by side, they're not that different in lenth.

  • DUDE!!! you are way too tall the car is fine ;) 6'.7" holly crap XD

  • Yo you can't compare two vehicles just on there seating and plus, how can you make a comparison like that when the Odyssey is way bigger than the Pilot.

  • Comment removed

  • there are many more good things about these two vehicles, not just second and third row seats.

  • I have an 05 Odyssey EX, and I love it for the ride, comfort, handling, and the room. I have had no maintenance or repair problems. Mileage could be better, but it gets 26 hiway, and 17 in town. It is powerful, when I need to get up to speed, or climb a hill. I converted from station wagons, which had similar capabilities, but less mpg, and lots of room and comfort. Anybody who thinks they are too cool for a van has no sense. Vans are for smart folks.

  • You are too tall........

  • Why is the person driving the car cramming their legs up into the dash to accomodate people in the second row? And why would three 6' 7" tall people be lined up one behind the other in a car? This whole analysis is just dumb. Thanks again Car and Driver. Now I remember why I cancelled my subscription.

  • That is not the 2008 or the 2009 Pilot that more like a 2006-2007 Pilot!!

  • Comment removed

  • Rangerover06sc true but not all Suv's a engine drop there are two pins under the engine and at a certain speed they will break causeing the engine to drop.. vs in your lap thats what makes the pilot top of the class, suv, car, motorcycle dunno about the truck yet .honda was the first to put airbags on there motorcycle and i even got the accord better gas mileage then then vette

  • i would say the expedition is safer, its very big but absorbs impact very well, and 5 stars in all catigories

  • The Honda Pilot also earned perfect five star ratings in all categories in the NHTSA crash test batteries in addition to earning good ratings in IIHS crash test batteries.

And, to top it off, the Pilot was also rated good for roof strength by the IIHS while the Ford was not tested.

The Pilot is every bit as safe. It may even be safer than the Expedition of the Ford can't take a rollover crash as well as the Pilot on account of roof strength.

  • if the ford expedition wasen't tested for roof strength, how do you know its worse, plus the ford expedition 4x4 got 4 stars on the rollover resistance test.

  • Google "Ford Expedition roof lawsuit."

  • And, current NHTSA rating for rollover resistance for the 2009 Expedition is three stars, not four.

  • not on 4wd versions!!

  • So it is.

But what if you don't have 4WD?

Now, of course, you should drive SUVs exactly like trucks and not like cars, which mitigates the rollover risk, but rollovers can still occur from, say, a collision with another vehicle.

And, rollover resistance wasn't my contention to being with: my contention was roof strength in the event a rollover does occur.

Just because it's rated less likely, it doesn't mean it can't happen.

  • same factors applie to the pilot, agian what makes you think the the roof isn't stronger on the expedition,it isn't rated, and the chassi 70% stiffer then the Pre-2002 models, plus the risk of rollovers would be ruduced with the optional air suspenion

  • ps.the ford expedition that was tested for rollover resistance didn"t have traction control, while the honda pilot did

  • Well, for me, if it's not tested, it automatically does not pass for me.

Chalk it up to another belief of mine regarding guns; if it's not shown to be 100% reliable, it's useless as a defensive weapon because there's an unacceptable chance that it will let you down when you need it most.

  • most ppl aren't 6ft 7 and we don't need all that leg room

  • Minivans are just better.

  • Yeah, Pilots are cramped, but that guy is a god damn basket ball player. he's 6'7 I think most other people will do fine.

  • the Pilot is better. and of all SUV's it is the safest. 5 stars i got one for my wife to drive because her and the kids cant fit in my corvette.. anyhow with all pilots and with the engine drop rings it makes it safer for the driver and the passanger.( no i wont get rid of my car)

  • a lot of suvs got the 5 syar rating

  • well yeah but the pilot has more computing power devoted to safety than most any vehicle.

  • that's not 2009 pilot

  • I just got this car (it's my first one! I'm 16) and I absolutely love it. I was going to get a cramped little Mercedes, but I went with the Honda because of it's gas mileage and my friends all love the space!

  • kids are in 2nd and 3rd road u dont normally have adults in back anyway they have space

  • we have a new 09 pilot and it has alot of room

  • onestky i think the pilot should only have 2 rows

  • Wow,i even know it shared the chassic with pilot

  • thats the highest moddel of the oddesy, the toring, the one more sudible one for us would be the ex or even the exl

  • so if your carrying 3 6'7" people including yourself, you're better off with the odyssey. So what are the chances of that happening anyway?

  • ha:)

  • Hey, I heard a great joke today about how Jared is on staff only because they needed someone to complain about third row seat hair-splitting.

If I ever hear it again, I'll be sure to tell yoy, 'kay?

  • lol sounds like he said "hi, i'm jerk-off"

    :D

  • no one that is 6'7 would ever ride in the 3rd row seat! lol

  • "after that id start throwing things" hahahaha

yeah, minivans are better. He should have said which had better gas mileage though.

  • im 17 and i drive a honda oddesy to school

    it looks bad

but everyone who comes with me says

    its very comfortable

it looks gay on the outside but its very comfortable in the inside

    and its not weak either

im a teenager and i have raced with it haha

i smoked a honda civiv easily probaly anything can and a 08 toyota camry

  • so I have a question.

I am going to getting a new family car very soon .

I am also close to getting my liscence so I would probably be driving it to school.

    whats better

    honda pilot or odyssey.?

  • Pilot is better.

  • odyssey is better

  • pilot is more capable

  • if your not worried about people making fun of you, oddysey

  • im 16 and i drive my moms oddy all the time

  • welcome to the club brother

not so bad just dont burn out with it

the trannys in the odyssey's are weak

  • i hate when im driving and i slow down is downshifts abruptly and it only has just over 10,000 mi, its a 08'

  • well in a way its good it down shifts because it sucks when it doesnt

then your like a old man that takes off hella slow

  • is it just me or does that guy seem really tall

  • He said he is 6' 7"

  • Good job!

  • Kewlios

  • Crazy go nuts.

  • But the average buyer is not a freakishly tall giant. So IMO this review is waste of time.
