This is very common.. it usually means the cat is nearby to the bird's nest where it's chicks are. The parents will swoop down on any animal nearby which may be a threat... animal behaviour lesson over.. :)
lol, i wasnt sure what kind of bird it was but i got one that dive bombs my cat and all day long, you can actually hear the bird smack into him. this cat kills mice and birds but lets this bird torment him all he wants, i think the cat actually likes it! now i got to take a video.
The mockingbird has a nest and will attack anyone near it. Funny thing is that for me, the parents only watch me when there's a nest, but no babies. When they hatched, that's when they attacked. Watch my video of the mockingbird nest.
Mocking birds only attack when they are nesting.Cats kill baby mocking birds.Mocking birds know this so they mob the cat.The male mockingbird knows what hes doing, hes in no danger himself.
Actually, that does not look like a mocking bird. It looks more like a shrike, an aggressive bird related to mocking birds. Shrikes are known to impale their prey on small, sharp objects like thorns and barbed wire fences while still alive! A small, aggressive bird that would not hesitate to attack a cat to be sure.
Initially, I was very worried for my cat, but she was obsessive about going out and would scratch at the door non stop until I let her go. Not only did the bird attack her for hours on end.. but the bird made that screeching sound you can hear right at the end of the video constantly. It didn't make for a very peaceful neighborhood.
Fortunately for my cat, she never was hurt.. but I do think the bird met his/her maker since we haven't seen it back for at least 2 years now.
lool! this same exact thing happened to my cat but with a crow. my cat had the same reaction as yours for about three months just kinda chilling and letting it happen but then i found my kittie munching on the poor bird outside :-(. i felt bad, poor crow's respectfully buried now.
That cat must have gotten into the medicine cabinet?...because he wasn't even annoyed let alone showing his natural instict to hunt the bird down then bring it into the kitchen and have my mother scream as if a she was being mugged by a bigfoot!!! I have a little experience with cats and birds...haha
I don't think the bird IS that fast, I think it was fast-motion video. Mockingbirds can be very aggressive, I learned that first-hand. But that cat really didn't care, haha.
Really strange...the bird is not afraid of the cat at all. I'm sorry the bird didn't come back. I had 2 mocking birds falling in my furnace(I can't figure out how)and the first one was an adult and survived but the second one was a baby and I rushed her to the vet but died there...My cats went crazy when I was taking care of the bird, like "Let us see, let us see the birdy!!" Of course, I did not let them get close.
Years ago I had a cat that continually got attacked by mockingbirds and she would just lay there and take it like it was a normal part of life. Then one day she was in the front yard and a bird had been swooping and pecking her for hours as she sun bathed not paying any attention to itwhen all of a sudden she jumped up and caught the bird. She wrestled it a bit but the bird got free and seemed to be no worse for it but it never swooped her again hehe.
The sad thing regarding this video is that Ceili's mockingbird pal did not return this spring. I am afraid that one of my other cats, Maggie, probably killed the "mocker" late last summer. I think the bird thought that all cats were as "nice" as Ceili and ventured a little too close to Maggie who is a good hunter. This year Maggie has a collar with a jingle bell to at least give the birds a chance to get away before she gets them. But poor mocker and poor Ceili who lost her best bird friend....
You can bet the farm this mocker has a family nearby, because that's why they get so aggressive and territorial in the springtime. I love mockers and cats, so this video is really cute!
Exactly! Glad you enjoyed it! Thiscat actually LIKES the attacks by the bird, she begs to go out even when the bird is relentlessly attacking her. The cat is an odd duck anyway. She is a rescue, and has always been a little weird. She doesn't like my other cats and scream if any of them get near her (I have 4 in all).. but she seems to love this bird.. weird!
I am working on compiling more footage of the cat and bird from last year... hopefully of a better quality. Look for it.
lol, I there's a bird that looks just like that and keeps attacking my cat, I have a video and about to upload it by next week!

You've never been truly ignored until you've been ignored by a cat! The mockingbird looked a little miffed by not getting a reaction out of the cat.
Great video. Five stars.
