  • I have 2 wranglers (TJ and JK) and my wife and I are looking into another more economical vehicle for arond town. The compass fits the bill as my secondary vehicle because its a Jeep with good milage even though its just a badge with this one.

  • its capable, comfortable, safe, and affordable...but my god, it is ugly as sin...

  • @azminivanracer

I love sins... and my Compass!

  • @gintonic1969 lol fair enough.

  • they need to make a trail rated version...

  • Ths is an embarrassement to the Jeep name!

  • Also, I really dont think its 4wd unless it has a lever you pull on the floor, or atleast a transfer case (even if it is engaged with a button and servo). Isnt the compass front wheel drive, with a clutch engaging rear wheel drive??

  • the thing is real jeeps have solid axles, all the IFS IRS stuff is just the jeep brand giving into the masses. The whole allure of JEEP used to go anywhere while dealing with a rougher street ride. My passion is my daily driver lifted jeep cherokee, sure it dosent handle the best around turns, but for what it can do on the weekends its worth it.

  • I have to say I love my Compass. Living in Buffalo, we get some nasty weather up here and it handles it with no problem. Moderate off road stuff is a breeze. This is my first Jeep and will deff be sticking with this brand because of its great handling and fuel economy.

  • nice but id go for a patroit because its trail rated

  • i love my Jeep Compass... and as they say in the video... its the first Jeep... i would love to have a Rubicon or the SRT8 Laredo

  • People who hate this car just don't get it. I would personally love to own a Rubicon, its just to expensive. I would see this as an entry level jeep for people who do NOT off-road. Its great on city and back-country dirt roads, in the snow, mud and sand. Perfect for me since I do a lot of camping and only need the jeep to get me to my launch point. From there i use my own muscle to get into the wild. Looks wise i like the Rallye more then the standard and that is what I'm looking at getting.

  • I will only buy this car with the rallye package, it really transforms it. I would like a wrangloer but the gas milage is better on the compass and the comapss is affortable. I like to camp and like to go to weird NJ places that require you to go down abandon dirt roads. Also jersey gets snow so this car is perfect for me with the price and all.

  • the compass is a great vehicle, all the space of an SUV but with way better milage, at first i was a skeptic when my GF bought it but now that i have driven it for over a year I actualy took a liking to it.

  • I think they should bring back the Cherokee Classic. or just the cherokee and not the V8 gas hoggin Grand Cherokee. Just need to bring back the Cherokee with the I6 and I would buy one in a heart-beat.

  • Hey Wrund, do you need a car to be an extension of your dick? It has great performance as a city vehicle and lots of cargo space and a bit of pep to boot. If you don't want one, don't drive one. Lots of us guys who are married and not gay also think it's a cool car.

  • I see often people complaining that it won't handle a trail. Of course it won't, which is why it isn't made for that. It's made to be an economical SUV with decent off-road capabilities, but nothing major like the Wranglers. In snow, heavy rain, flooding, and a it shows, sand, this will do just fine.

Sure, it's not the same, but it's not trying to replace it, it's intended for a whole different purpose. Economy with light off-road potential.

  • I'd like to congratulate you on making a sensible post.

My wife and I picked up our new Jeep Compass a week ago. We love it. In this city, we have long winters and plenty of snow. We also wanted to save on gas. This Jeep fit perfectly, and handled our deep snow as if it was driving on concrete.

  • Precisely, the video points out blatantly that is is designed to meet multiple needs. Great styling, safety and fuel efficiency with enough power to go offroading- but not crazy offroading.

  • We just picked our compass limited up this morning and we absolutely LOVE it!! It's perfect for our family and lifestyle... love the look and how it drives. We've owned Jeeps for years. We also have a Cherokee. Both great vehicles. We're very happy with the compass.

  • lol I just found out you can buy lift kits for these. wtf!?

  • The Compass is a good-value 4W station wagon. Theis kind of car is more and more popular in Europe, and its Volkwagen diesel engine is very good. By definition is not for hard off-road, so why complaining? And, it has much more personality than a Rav...

  • Why would Jeep make this stupid thing?

It looks like a KIA and probably has the same lack of quality.

I wonder if anyone would be dumb enough to take one to Jeep camp.

  • ew, worst jeep

  • I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing that most of these will never even see a gravel road.

  • LOL - I used to do all that "offroading" in my old Chevy Cavalier. That thing won't keep up with me in my XJ on a real trail. I look at it this way - if people buy these stupid things instead of Toyotas - it will keep the Jeep company profitable so they can make more Wranglers and such.

  • What's sad is that most people who drive REAL Jeeps (well, apart from MAYBE the Wrangler) probably never even do that much. There are probably people looking at this and going OMG, it can do THAT?

I've done far, far worse than this in my 84 Corolla and my 92 Accord.

"This vehicle is remarkably capable." Nothing shown in this video is remarkable. It is unremarkably capable.

  • Its an awesome crossover, but id hate to see it go down a jeep trail. Too low to the ground, too round, too plasticky. It will sell like a hotcake in Europe!

  • That's why it's not Trail Rated.

  • I thought Jeeps had to off road by definition. Great vehicle, I just dont think it should be marketed under the Jeep name.

  • ahh im a hardcore jeep fan and this thing i unno it just pisses me off

  • I wish I woulda read yours before I commented.

  • yea man i agree wonderful ground clearance in this mall crawler

  • American Jeep fans seem to hate it, but I think the compass will do well in Europe, especially with the VW sourced 2 litre turbo diesel engine. High driving position, storage and decent fuel consumption will appeal to a lot of drivers, and the design stands out from the average family hatch - which is what the Compass is up against. Jeep have finally designed a European vehicle, I can't wait to buy one!

  • I think Jeep did an excellent job with this car. They are expanding to more shoppers with this car. My moms Compass does not have 4WD, but she hardly used the 4WD in her Cherokee and her Liberty, so again, Jeep made a good desicion to make 4WD optional. SOme of my friends who have an SUV, don't even know that it has 4WD, so why should they pay for it, when they didn't even know it was 4WD.

  • I think he is jelous. My mom has one and it is a great car. It looks great and it drives great. And obviously by the video above, it does well off roading. Maybe not as well as the Wrangler, but if someone wanted as much off road capability as a Wrangler, then they would get a Wrangler.

  • By the way, everyone who is raving about its fuel economy go to the Jeep website and look up the expected MPG...they advertise the gas mileage of the base-model with a manual transmission and 2-wheel drive. Look at the stats for the "4x4" (and I use that term loosely) with an Automatic and it is hardly better than a Wrangler. Get a minivan because thats what this POS is.

  • you need to driving in 4wd to get those stats.

  • This car is cool, i can't wait to buy one. It's more of a rally-style than a off-road jeep, which suits my lifestyle perfectly (winter road conditions). The fuel economy along with the cargo capacity make it a great vaule above the standard SUV or pickup. Plus I like the styling. I can't wait!

  • yeah, and you won't regret it! ;)

  • what a pathetic excuse for a jeep...every time I see one I just want to run up and rip the jeep emblems off of it. NOT a jeep. A mini van could have done the stuff it did in that vid, btw.

  • What your problem jealous you dont have one?

  • LOL. My daily driver is a tj and my trail rig is a built xj. Why in the world would I want one of these?

  • By the way, that was NOT offroading...

  • We dont hate it, we hate that its a Jeep & that Jeep entered the "crossover" SUV market. Its funny that people buying them think they're getting a JEEP. It is no more capable off-road than a Rav4 or Honda CRV & it's sad that Jeep makes it(the Commander, Grand Cherokee, Patriot, & Liberty too). Liberty owners get upset when people say they suck, but there's a reason that there's no lifts made for them(other than 2" coil-spring spacers which dont count)...they're for soccer moms!

  • It's not a matter of making hardcore offroad vehicles, it is a matter of making money, crossovers are what sells, at least for now

  • Dude, I wasnt talking about the JK Wrangler, I know what that is and that is the only real Jeep still Made! And when I said the Compass was like an Aztek, I meant it was ugly, not that it was based on the same platform. Noone was talking to you in the first place dumbass.

  • It seems that all the bad coments about the car comes from people who have not owned one. All the owners seem to like it.????

  • Wow, that Compass thing is really ugly...Jeeps version of the Pontiac "Aztek" that came out a few years ago. Hideous!

  • It's not an Aztec it is a dodge caliber, and I kinda like it

  • Hey ENBr, have you seen a Jeep Magazine, um, ever?? KJ's arent real Jeeps either...it belongs in the same grocery-getter/soccermom-mobile class along with the Compass, New Grand Cherokee, Commander, and Patriot!

  • Um you mean JK, oh and by the way the JK can outperform any previous stock wrangler offroad, looks like your the one that needs to read a Jeep Magazine

  • Oh yeah, get your head out of your ass and realize that a KJ is a Liberty, and the JK is the Wrangler...are you dislexic?? I WAS talking about the LIBERTY "KJ". Punk.

  • You dont have anything else to say??

  • Great - sand isn't road - so it's an offroader!!!

This logic was brought to you today by DCX (Daimler Chrysler eXtreme) and mum drivers.

    I'll keep my KJ.

  • Gorgeous machine, so my new car!

  • See my above comment, you made a mistake buying this. Good luck with the resale value, it will be dismal.

  • whatever you say, sleeksilver...

I sooooooooooooooo love my Jeep Compass!!!

  • I love it! I'm getting one, jeep green limited edition 4x4 :D

  • Wet farting noise.

  • I ordered Jeep Compass two weeks ago and I'll be having it tomorrow, finally!!! the wait is really agonizing!

    Limited, 4x4, bright metallic silver.

  • I'm glad someone likes it but for me the agonizing part is looking at it. UGLY!

  • Congratulations for buying something that has received no praise. All the major car magazines criticized the vehicle heavily. The interior is crap, and the entire vehicle is simply a re-bodied Caliber.

  • Apparently a 7-slotted grill means it's a Jeep... Chrysler is so backwards

  • Man, That is so ugly...
