Terrifying. This sketch scared me. I hated to see the giant at the end. But now that I'm an adult I like to quote him..."They always come to visit, but they never stay!"
The giant sort of looked like the King from the Zelda CD-I games. I'm surprised this hasn't been worked into a Youtube Poop yet. And yes, I am aware that Jerry Nelson is the giant. But the way he looked in this sort of reminded me of the King.
@Zwei4815 Maybe he was on some kind of lift. Also, did they have female puppeteers back then, besides Fran Brill, I mean? they could've used one of them as the giant.
I might be wrong but, I think this was the only Sesame Street news where Kermit didn't interview a fairy tale character. Also, it was a little surprising how Kermit was afraid of the Giant since Kermit's not part of the story of "Jack And The Beanstalk", and Kermit has interviewed a lot of the fairy tale villians (including the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs) and Kermit was never scared of those villians and those villians answered his questions nicely and politely.
If this sketch came out in 1989, that meant I was four when I first saw it. I remember being TERRIFIED of the giant's teeth (scary teeth and eyes in general used to freak me out like nothing else). Watching it again for the first time in twenty years, I don't see what the fuss is about. :)
The giant is Jerry Nelson (who also plays Gobo Fraggle, Feenie Fraggle, Fishfave Fraggle, Mervin Fraggle and Uncle Gobo Fraggle, Gobo's great-uncle and namesake)
Yeah, why not leave the old News Flash logos alone? They look very similar; it's not like the Monsterpiece Theater or Super Grover title card upgrades.
Well, I believe this sketch first aired back in 1989, and this version of the title card was first used around 1986. Therefore, there was never anything plastered in the first place.
Actually there is another version of this skit with the 1974 logo (it is called "Kermit and the Beanstalk (Vintage Sesame Street)" , but be warned, the quality is atrocious).
Then again, some Sesame Street News skits such as the ones for Hey Diddle Diddle and Aladdin's Lamp never originally had a News Flash logo in the first place.
LOL!!!

"Sesame Street News never blows a story."
Now that's dedication!
I just love the simulated climbing up the beanstalk, the way Henson gives Kermit a slightly out-of-breath sound.
Love the determination when he goes:
